Their are spots there for blokes if they want them.

Small defender for Jetta.

Magner in the midfield.

Hell, there are about 5 spots in the midfield up for grabs...

Lack of leadership perhaps?? ... needed some calmer and wiser heads to steady the ship. Not to mention, some more mature bodies who could run the game out a bit better than a bunch of kids and/or older players but who have yet to complete a full AFL pre-season.

The biggest surprise in our line-up at Renmark was ommitting our entire leadership team. I know that we need to get games into many of our younger players but we also need to hone our on-field leadership. IMO to not have some representation on the ground from the leadership group was a mistake as it would have been-character-building for whoever we appointed and also good for the morale of the rest of the team to have their leaders out there!

It's also about not having them there as well, Neeld made a point in his post match of saying the team was able to readjust, and they seem to have done it themselves, so good leadership shown by non leadership group players, the Leadership group in AFL is about setting an example both on and off the field, in training etc...it would also show Neeld, if he wanted a change up who the next candidates might be....personally I don't mind the two Jacks as Captains, but the rest of the Leadership group should be an evolving beast

Perhaps Neeld used this as an opportunity for other players to step up and show some leadership. Great chance to learn more about players, which is what the NAB cup is all about.

So who stood for us at the coin toss: anyone know?

Was fairly pleased with how we played.

J Macdonald - Virtually turned the ball over every time he got it, will be concerning if he got many games this year.

This is just not true...

15 of 19 possessions were effective.

J Mac gets pretty harshly judged here on Demonland.

He has the hardness that well all claim to want in our players yet he is constantly being unfairly labeled by us.

I thought Jetta was fantastic, shoe in for round one.

Perhaps Neeld used this as an opportunity for other players to step up and show some leadership.

Perhaps also, not so much about leadership, but taking responsibility. When Jones, Grimes etc. are there, they tend to direct the traffic somewhat (and Dawes now down forward it seems), so without them, the players onfield were left to their own devices more. One of the comments after the game was that we managed to keep our shape, so it seemed to have worked.

Agree he was very good but what we need to advance is consistency from players like Nev. if we can achieve that we can make strides forward but if players only produce one in every four weeks as many have in the past, then we're going nowhere.

He's by no means a shoe in just yet but a couple more of those performances and he'll secure a spot.

2024 Player Reviews: #36 Kysaiah Pickett

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc. When he’s on song, he’s unstoppable but he did blot his copybook with a three week suspension in the final round. 2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

The years are rolling by but May continued to be rock solid in a key defensive position despite some injury concerns. It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield.
