I for one are very happy with Watts development. He can play many position. HBF, CHB, wing, CHF, HFF. In this day and age Watts will be invaluable. He now has a nice size to him meaning more strength. IN 2 years time he will have more size therefore confidence to use his natural footballing ability and using his strength.

Most people will only build strrentgh after they have matured. 21 is a good timeto develop strength. He will only ge better from here and at better rate. His body has matured and he wil build a very nice size giong forward

most likely he will continue to add weight

lets hope so

Everyone adds weight as they mature DC. IMO this year Watts has developed nicely to what many have been wanting for 5 years. He is now at an age, and in a program that will develop him nicely from here on. I remember Chip Frawley being bagged for his lack of strength and size in his early years. Maturity and age has helped him nicely. Watts is taller and skinnier than Chip but he got there. So will Jack.

Imagine if McDonald being beaten at CHB. The obviuos change is to put Watts at CHB. Or Pederson or Sellar. We now have swingman who are key position players, and we have Watts who can play many roles. Invaluable to the team and hard to match up on. In a year or two he will provide inavaluable flexibilty.

The guy is 21 and has alot of improvement in him in many positons. His development has been steady over the last 3years. This will continue.

BH is wrong when he says Wtts is weak and afraid in the contest. He isgetting to the point to where he can contest in the air and ground.

Howcan Barry be rated above Watts? In BH eyes? Watts provides run, skills and isgeting ti size to competeone on one

I go to training too. Watts is laconic in his style. But he is graceful, kicks beautifully. He impresses morethan Barry.

Hardness at theball/player only occurs when you feel you hve the strength to compete. His size hasimproved nicely this pre season and will only ge better in the coming years. Watts had alot of growing to do before he could build strength and size. but he is getting there physically

BH over rates his self importance and forgot about natural attrition. Naturallyskinny ppl, take to there early 20 yrs to stop growing and fill out. Particulary players over 190 to 195cms. Is he scared to put his body in? in the past yes. Now he is building strength he will feel more comfortable to use his body. Its called development.

No BH, he is developing. and has improved over the years. Your PROBLEM is that you expect Watts to be Riewoltd (bad spelling I think ??). You are a vcitim to your own expectation. The guy is 21yrs and you expect too much and you become upset as has not become the player you want him to be.

I did not say he is a star (your words). Maybe would wanted him to be a star and have become bitter. I think we need to give Jack more time before we can say he is a failure or a success.

How can Barry be a potential star on the training track when Watts is far more advanced and provides far more flexibility than Barry will as a player. Watts can be a outside player playing on a wing. He is quick, he can influence more in the air, kick goals and intercept forward thrust from the air. Jacks foot skills are excellent.

Your opinion of yourself is WAY over inflated. You call many fools and unintelligent. I think a massive level of counter transference is occurring here

Barry may become a player. He is a graceful mover and has paceto burn. So does Jack!

Your lack of intelligence and emotional reaction to Jack is obvious.

Any astute footballer observer has noticed Watts being intimidated in some aerial contests to the point where he's avoided many of them. Fact. Until I see this aspect of his play significantly change I'll judge him accordingly. I look forward to seeing an improvement in 2013. It will be about bloody time.

You mention me "rating Barry above Watts". WTF are you talking about ? Quotes thanks.

Then you're talking about "natural attrition". Again, WTF ? i think you're confused. I'd like to see more natural attrition on this website.

I expect Watts to be Nick Riewoldt ? incorrect. He's not up to carrying Riewoldt's bag into the ground.

When he was drafted THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB expected they were recruiting someone the calibre of Riewoldt - me too, but they, like myself, now realise how wide of the mark that was. It was an understandable expectation at the time considering they're both former number one picks. One club got value for their pick and the other club got Watts.

And once again you seem critical of my praise of Barry as a prospect. You'll have to learn to keep those assessments separate. I've said that Barry looks like a great prospect BUT I've also said IF he's SOFT he'll join the conga line of players that don't reach their potential. I won't know whether he's soft until I see him at AFL level.

Look it up

it explains a lot !

"The word comes from Laconia, a region in ancient Greece where the local Spartan rulers gave very short speeches"

I am making a tenuous link but I think the Watts problem is Demetriou's fault.

When you are judging Barry BH make sure you are facing the green bit.......by the way showing your support for mfc by shouting the name out loud....very impressive.......what is your defintion of soft by the way....

Do Ben a favour, search for "soft" under B-H or Hannabal, see what comes up, put your feet up and read until dusk with a bowl or five of popcorn.

Jack Watts so far has not shown he was worth #1 draft pick.

It was not his fault he was taken at #1, it was BP's

#1 picks should be almost a guarantee superstar. Sadly I do not think Watts will make it to the superstar level.

Imagine we had Natanui running around in the Red and Blue, would work wonders both onfield and off-field.

Natanui taps down to Viney who spear kicks it into Hogans chest would've been a standard play for the next 10 years.

Such a hero Ben. You've said enough about the past, what kpp player who is naturally undersized would excel in any poor team. Look at someone like Johnathon Patton who comes at the right size and still can't make the grade yet.

He's 21 years old, the same age when Nick Riewoldt had his breakout year. I'm pretty confident ill be excited to hear your comments later in the year.

Just having a bit of fun... And amusing myself in the process. You know, small minds and all that. It's almost a troll, because I know I'll reel in a few.

Btw, Riewoldt didn't become a borderline star until he was 21, but he won a Best & Fairest at 19. How does that compare with Jack's 16th placing at 21 ? Riewoldt was also an AA at 21. But MOST importantly, Riewoldt has always played with tremendous courage. He's the antithesis of Watts.

Gee BH it must be terrible being on a board with so many people of inferior intellect, but then again I suppose you were one of those small children that delighted in pulling the wings of butterflies as well.

I personally enjoy jousting with you, it gives me something to do during my lunch break, helps me relax because I don't have to use my brain a lot

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
