Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The 2 rookies Stark and Clisby both trained yesterday although Stark got pulled out of the last drill along with Jack Fitzpatrick and Jimmy Toumpas,. They (Stark and Clisby) didn't stand out for either good or bad reasons, which in itself is ok

I forgot I spoke to Jack Fitzpatrick in one of my earlier posts, he said you get pulled out of drills because of your training loads, he was actually a bit peeved coz he was enjoying training, but appreciates how professional everything is.now and the fitness staff know exactly what is happening to each player

Said hello to Stark whilst I was talking to Jimmy Toumpas, another smiler living the dream but built like a stick at the moment

Edit coz I got the rookie who got pulled wrong, if you will excuse the phrase

Guest José Mourinho

Just noticed Gawn has been placed on the Long Term injury list by the MFC.

Does not look good to me.

Seems to be very injury prone.

Will he play again for the MFC seniors?

Try not to be alarmist or anything...

It probably means that his knee rehab won't be finished before round 8 or so, so they may as well make use of it to play a rookie.

Geez thats a long rehab. from memory he did his knee prior to Christmas, so about 13 months ago. Being off till round 8 would make it almost a year and a half recovery.

No, this is rehab for his hamstring injury which he suffered late last year. It is connected in some way to his knee, but with someone of that size I would imagine the club wants to be extra cautious.

Just wanted to add thanks to all those providing reports and pics.

As others have stated Pics show a group with larger numbers having muscle definition than I can remember seeing previously. No stick insects. Even Watts appears to have more muscle.

Interested in all thoughts on the tackling. and observation from the pics is difficult but can the hip tackle become a trip if the tackled player goes down, Will the tackle be seen as a takeout tackle by the AFL if we become adept at it. The pics certainly seemed to indicate that the margin for error could be small. Have the AFL umpires we have had at training sactioned our technique?

Because they are being extra cautious with him as I already pointed out.

I am not disagreeing with you.

I just don't understand why he is on the LTIL.

If it was two weeks before the start of the season we could up grade someone

I am just struggling to see why he is now on the List.

What is the advantage?

Why not just have him in rehab

The tackle needs to be above the knee which it is. Who knows how the AFL will rule on anything so at the moment I think it is a great approach to tackling that most AFL players don't do. By the way the AFL umpire was watching the tackling session closely to give advise on the technique.

The best technical tackle I have seen of the current day players is NikNat, if you watch him he always goes hard and low and takes his opponent out of the game. Given that he is taller than most he comes up against he never gives free kicks away for head high tackles and this has become a big issue. Remember our performance against WC last year and the amount of head highs we gave, it was embarrassing.

A lot of people, think you need to pin the arms in a tackle for the best result and have trained to achieve this. This is just not a practical idea as players have been lifting their arms in the tackle to give off since at least the 80's, Brett Lovett was a master. Todays players like Joel Selwood just slip the tackle and draw head high free's.

The idea is to put the shoulder in low and take the wind out of your opponent, take him to ground and put the ball into dispute. Part of the drill is to get up and back into the game and be a number at the next contest.

I think our new approach is right on the money and like a few things we are doing it is ahead of the game. Well done FD and Mark Neeld.

Isn't it a minimum 8 weeks to be on the long term injury list? Therefore putting him on now takes you through to March and allows a rookie upgrade at the start of the season if warranted. If they're being extra cautious as Clint says, which I agree with, then they weren't going to be playing him anyway and by doing it now we can upgrade a rookie and it doesn't exclude him from much of the season if he comes good.

Thanks RJay I agree with all you have said and was pleased that the AFL umps were at sessions.

Hopeully If the tackle is well applied, even if arms are free it, will affect the efficiency of the disposal and result in a contested ball. the tackler should also have the momentum to recover for a second effort while the tackled and upset player will not be as quick to recover.

hope you are seeing this in real life training

Hopefully a few of these guys will have the wind knocked out of them and the ones who still lift their arms as a reflex will learn not to if they keep getting a hard shoulder under the ribs enough times.

...but yeah this is what they're working on.

Thx for the reports and photos ppl

I loved the photos and couldn't help but notice there were NO STICK INSECTS, and did Jonesy get a free for the elbow to the neck from coach Craig. Great stuff.

Flemo56,

He didn't get a free, but on closer examination the coach is only offering a guiding hand on the shoulder.

Are you a perpetual worrier ? The guy is running laps at pace and kicking the footy. It's clearly a strategic decision of some sort.

Relax.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
