Zeroing in on Picks 49 and 53

Yeah, I agree. We look like ending up using 73 and 74 on Rookie Elevations which means the Pedersen and Martin deals are measurably worse: Martin for 53 and Gysberts and 63 for Pedersen.

Agree totally - crap negotiation skills on both these deals IMHO.

I hope to be proven wrong but 13 also seems over the odds for Barry, but they know more than me

The Barry deal was the sliding of pick 13 to pick 20 (which we then used to trade for Dawes), assuming you accept pick 3 for Hogan.

Not a bad deal, and hard to break into parts as was bundled with Hogan for pick 3...

No probs with the Hogan deal. We did that to get Viney at 27.

We got value.

I think people have got to realize that Neeld no longer wanted Gysberts and Martin. They targeted Pedersen mid season and got him. They targeted other specific types / players and got them all except Farren Ray. Does it matter that we only got pick 53 for Martin (whom I particularly liked) when the most important thing was to free up space.

On face value, whether it be Toumpas or Wines, it has been an extraordinary off season which will have a significant bearing on the 22 in Round 1 2013.

I, like a few others would love to have Dean Towers (preferably at pick 49) because I think he will be gone soon after. Good build and multi talented sportsman.

Has only concentrated on footy for the last couple of years. I reckon at 22 has a good upside to him.

You're not right about either of these, as per the posts above, but just to add ... there are North supporters think we payed too little for Pederson, and they payed too much for Gysberts.

If Andrew Boston is available i'd love to see us pick him up at 48, he has a great kick and could feature on the outside.

I'd also like us to take a punt on Emmanuel Irra. He may be seen as raw but he has amazing break away speed and a great kick. i reckon if neeld can give him time he could provide some x factor to the team.

If not, Nick Rippon could be a smokie.

We still got things back in that deal we will not use - if you barter like that you will starve sooner or later...

It's no big deal, but our fire sale was just that, and clubs knew it.

Would like to see us draft Anthony Bonnadio. Purely based off his highlights video, but he could be a livewire up forward if he can make the most of his speed and defensive pressure.

Nick Rippon is a smokey as previously mentioned. Speedster who accumulates a bit of ball. Could be worth a late pick or a rookie spot.

Not so much a footballer as a terrific athlete. Would be an interesting pick up at 52 ......... but he might be a bit too much of an outside player for Neeld. Can certainly run

With Haynes I see an Isaac Smith type who probably needs some more time to develop. As Smith has said himself, he wasn't right to be drafted at 18 but few years senior football did the trick. Is he worth picking up in the draft? I think we are in a good position to know as Viney would have the inside info.

Last year he looked like he could have been a top 10 pick this draft but has fallen back.

Could be worth a pick if he is still there at 49 or 53 or whatever the picks are now.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
