Thread title a bit wrong too - the picks we'd lose would be next year in 2013.

Then again in 2014, if it so be.

Posted

not next year but if there are 2 years of penalties, then billy stretch says hello.

Imagine that, a few comments from 2009 from people who potentially will not even be at the club next year may effect little Billy's future.

Butterfly effect much?

Maybe we might start playing for wins next season instead of playing for draft picks.

Let's be honest, we deserve to have picks taken off us. We've had high draft picks for most of a decade. How many more do we need??

Personally, I'd rather we just take our whack and get on with it. The reality is that taking pick 4 away would be getting off lightly considering we gained 1 or 2 (depending on how you look at it) by intentionally losing matches. The AFL should take pick 4 off us and move onto the next club. Having this thing hanging over our heads no good for a club that is finally starting to get itself together.

It would be a massive hit. Don't kid yourself. It's what the other clubs gain whilst we get nothing.

looks like we are going to be down the ladder for a long time, big thanks to all who contributed to this along with some very questionable draft picks i.e. rodan what the hell is going on

Yeah I reckon you're right, we deserve what we get an if we win a flag in the next 5 years i think we should hand that back too and maybe to completely clear our conscience we should raffle jack Viney off and the winner gets him and we can donate the proceeds of the raffle to St Vinnies.

I think this is an indefensible attitude. We deserve nothing more than a 'sorry for your time, you guys were really awful' from the AFL Commission.

I want the club to accept no sanction and no expectation of firings and no guilt. We did nothing wrong.

We didn't tank.

I quite often agree with you rpfc

And I hope this is your public persona?

If not you have to be kidding

If anyone heard Dennis Pagan with KB this morning you would realise the effect of losing draft picks would have on a club. Dennis spoke on a lot of club issues and it's well worth a listen if they put the audio up, there are some lessons their for us.

yes i heard it. Very interesting & i agree. If we do lose the right to use high draft picks IT WILL put the club back years. Not might, IT WILL.

we not only lose picks and stagnate, other clubs all benefit from our exclusion....

Not entirely sure what you are saying, OD.

I have a narrower definition of tanking so it is useful in defining the rules of the game. The broader the definition of tanking, the more useless that definition becomes.

We didn't tank.

I'll take the hit about my attitude but surely moving ruckmen to play on small forwards in order to shift the game momentum or benching players who are threatening to take the game by the throat equates to some form of tanking. I love MFC but I also quite like the game and would hate to think that this would become the norm. Whatever you call it, I don't think there's anything admirable about it.

Good point "unjust enrichment",add it to the list.

I take exception to this - since when was Paul Johnson a ruckman?

The Bulldogs found a home for a ruckman at CHB this season (Roughhead).

You just can't legislate against these actions unless they can be wholly and singularly attributed to deliberately losing games.

We absolutely tried to minimise our chances of winning, but those actions were not tanking if you think tanking can be legislated against.

Give me a definition of tanking that is useful in legislation and you will show me a very narrow definition and one that does not affect the MFC.

Further to RPFC's comments you are selectively picking moves to suit your argument. Why didnt you also mention other moves that have been questioned ?

Why didnt you mention Frawley and Warnock going forward as many in the media have ? because we did the same this year with Garland and Rivers

Why didnt you mention Brad Miller being a CHF in the midfield as many in the media have ? because we did the same this year with Bate

It has been mentioned players being benched after threatening to take the game apart - like every footballer who gets taken off when he has jsut kicked a goal - go figure.

The definition of tanking needs by necessity to be narrow - "telling players not perform" - otherwise it becomes murky and difficult to be definitive and conclusions are too subjective.

You keep saying "tanking", but you don't know what it means.

Bugger, I've booked a seat at the draft - may as well cancel :(

Have it on good authority, that the penalty will be coming down Nov 19th.

Do you think this is appropriate.

Adelaide Crows to be fined $300,000 AND LOSS OF 1ST Round AND 2ND Round PICKS IN UPCOMING DRAFT.

Kirk Tippett to be suspended NAB Cup and FIRST 6 Games of the 2013 AFL Season.

Player Manager Peter Bulcher to befined $100,000 , DELISTED for the 2013 season and all contracted players to Mr.Bulcher to be managaed by the AFL (Mr.Bulcher may re-apply after the 2013 season)

This is from bigfooty, and this post is from an adelaide supporter.

So our faith will decide in 19th too, if this is true

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
