Thanks JTR.

Great to hear that Fitzy did a number Pedo. Those who know me from BF will know that I never wanted Pedo and wanted Fitzpatrick to play as third tall/ruck. Hope he makes it impossible to not select him.

How did it compare to the first training session last year, Jose, or for anyone who watched them both? Last chance for Davey this year, not a good start by the sounds of it.

Hogan looks a decent sized lad, but not quite as tall as I imagined.

Either that or Tynan has really shot up.

I didn't think there wasn't a great deal between the 2 in terms of height.

(Obviously Tynan was shorter, but I expected the difference to be much greater).

Have a look at 9cms on a ruler, or tape. It's not that much, but in footy terms it's enormous.

I thought they looked like they came back in far better shape than last year, with only fitzpatrick going in for an operation I think we are far healthier. I think the barometer for this is Blease, when they were doing the 200m sprints last year Blease was running in groups with the ruck group as he couldnt keep up. This morning he was running with Bail and doing a pretty good job keeping up, I think a few of them have come back looking more lean, I suppose trying to add some much needed speed rather than the slow muscle type eg. Moloney

I know this.

If you know anything about building, 90mm is the wider part of a stud. Not much.

But it didn't look like 9cm difference where I stood.

Was also taking note of wingspan, and at a glance I reckon Tynan has arms just as long (not that Hogan's are short).

Possibly how he was able to play "taller" as a junior.

Had the morning free today so went down for a look. I didn't stay for the whole session, but here are a few notes of what I saw:

.........................................

• Magner pushing really hard in the 9th/10th sprint and actually caught up to and passed Nicholson.

Training days

You have to give it to Magner. The guy doesn't look like any sort of runner with those short, chunky legs but he is showing a lot of the other guys how to do it.

However long his football career is, when it is over he will be one Melbourne player who will be able to say he gave it his absolute best shot.

Not a clue.

Didn't go to preseason training last season, save for the intraclub match.

thanks for all reports. much appreciated!

does anyone know which group Garland is training with? fwds or backs?

I've been to two sessions and he wasn't at either.

Also, they haven't been segregated into forward, back and midfield groups yet.

I'm pretty sure Tynan had a bit of a late growth spurt this year. He certainly seemed taller in the Casey games I saw towards the end of the season. I also think he has a really good build for AFL in terms of limb length/body and body shape. He looks solid enough to handle the rough stuff and athletic enough to run. I think if his application is good enough we may have a gem on our hands.

Besides the fitness stuff which has been mentioned, the ball rarely hit the ground, this time last year the ball was constantly missing targets.

We're have to come up with a better nickname than "Pedo"

Hi HFF. Its great that Fitzy is running well and will hopefully have a full and productive pre-season. I think that having Pedersen will actually help Fitzy as he will have to compete hard for his spot with someone, that at this point in his career, has performed better at AFL and VFL level. If Pedersen is to keep him out he will have to train and play well, as Fitzy is coming on, and if Fitzy breaks into the AFL team he will have earned it, unlike previous years where he has been competing against backmen.

I read a North supporter refer to Pedo as 'Mr Bubbles' on BF. A much better nick name

Well, we definately won't be calling him that!

Find out the nickname his new team mates are calling him and run with that I reckon.

I'm going to go right out on a limb here and suggest something like 'Cammo'...

Why do people only consider altering surnames?

Thats a bit too extreme for me.........

Ive got a really good feeling about Fitzy. He's been through a lot more than most and is still competing. I think he and Hogan might be our long term forwards in years to come.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
