Dawes wanted a fresh number.

In my lifetime I can only think of Brett Lovett (86-97) in the number 6.

I hope

Viney takes #7

Pick 4 #23

Hogan #1

Barry #33

Think you mean Glenn Lovett....Brett worn#17

New numbers

No. 6 - Chris Dawes

No. 10 - Shannon Byrnes

No. 15 - David Rodan

No. 21 - Cameron Pedersen

No. 27 - Tom Gillies

Happy with that

Would like to se Jack Viney given #31, #3 or #5.

All other draftees can have higher numbers until they earn a low number.

# ..31 Just a number these days....

since Ronald Dale, a cursed number if you ask me.

I don't want to see 31 for at least a decade.

It is an unfair weight to put on a kids shoulders. After the next flag is won, bring it back out.

My dream WYL is for my boy to grow up get drafted by the Dees and wear it, heres hoping!

Yes Glenn Lovett. Thanks Bossdog. I mixed those 2 up more than the Febey brothers and they looked nothing like each other haha

Nothing memorable about Matthew Bate..... oh wait there once was that time when.......ummmm.......... yeah nothing.

To be honest, I like that the numbers are getting announced but I worry about how we have to rant on and on about who got who's number from 50 years ago. I worry that the club is to enmeshed in it's past rather than caring about the future. I could be wrong but just my take.

You are right, but it is a small thing, i doubt they held a AGM and Board meeting to decide these things.

He did kick a goal with his first kick. That was about it for The Master.

Wow, Gillies getting my childhood hero, number 27. Giving the late, great Sean Wight's number to a player on a one year contract - I hope he wears it with pride and earns himself a contract extension at the end of the year.

Would like to see Toumpas in 23 if he's drafted, or if it's Wines, I think number 5 would suit him. Although he may need to stretch it given the size he is compared to the last bloke that wore it.

Maybe Viney and Toumpas/Wines in 22 and 23?

I would like to see Viney in 31 though...

And Hogan should be in 5.

Disgraceful decision otherwise.

So we are not going to use it any time soon wyl

Might as well retire it.

Agree to an extent. However, maybe the decisions are partly to do with the future..just saying. There are members out there who like the significance of past players and their numbers.

As long as members of the FD don't spend too much time on the selections and get it done (ie . It is the "off-season") it shouldn't "worry" people or have an influence on aspects concerning the club's future.

That said, when I reflect on the likes of Watts, Scully, Trengove receiving their jumpers, C.Schwab in his Whiteboard Wednesdays mentioned the significance of recognising the past moving forward (yes I understand he's big on the history of the club).

Hope I've made sense here.

You mean the guy that nicked off to play with Carlton, WYL? :P

yes, but that was after being part of 6 flags so i try not to get to emotional about that. Try..Try....

having a bad day O.D?

Take it easy champ...

No quite the reverse wyl

Just Don't see us winning a flag for at least the next 4 years and that is positive thinking.

Also there was a small amount of "smart arse" in the comment.

good. I was momentarily worried. 4 years i expect us to be playing tough hard finals footy in that time. Excuses will not be tolerated.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
