Rodan couldn't get a regular game at Port because he failed on the defensive side....

If you can explain the thinking from Rodan on I would be curious.

My guess is that it'll be as a goal sneak specialist sub. Hit 'em fresh, jag a couple, screw the defensive side unless it happens by accident.

I can understand getting Byrnes to some extent. Former premiership player - small forward who can score goals - he can pass on his experience to the younger players and he fills a niche.

But Rodan and possibly Ray?!!! That's Byrnes times 3, without the premiership nous.

We are trading like John West tinned fish. We think it's the players that other clubs reject that will make MFC the best.

I feel a little bit the same, but I am a lot angrier with our player development staff than I am with our recruiters. I have no problem recruiting players like Morton, Gysberts and Cook. At the time, most clubs would have had them rated at about the position MFC drafted them.

Gysberts aside - who didn't develop mainly through injury - we develop mediocre footballers. Mick Malthouse annoys the carp out of me but I will give him this: he turns boys into men who become aggressive, talented, hard working footballers. Colin Sylvia is the most obvious MFC case in point. Can you imagine him at Geelong, Hawthorn, WCE?

Why did the Club/Board/L:eadership allow our player development to remain so poor for so long without action?

Neeld is responsible now along with Schwab . I thought we were supposed to have a strategy of a rebuilding club, letting go players, like Junior etc..we now pick up Rodan, Byrnes etc..and let go early draft picks in Morton & Gysberts.

All I can say Cam&Mark, it is on your heads this next year after a disastrous 2012.

I believe letting Gysberts and Morton go for virtually nothing is just downright shameful. If we do not win at least 10 games this year both Cam & Mark should WALK or the board should sack both.

As a paid up member of 30 years I feel very angry that we have stuffed up on recent high draft picks. Now we are giving up those missed chances for B grade pickups. It's a total disgrace and one that MFC members should no longer tolerate. FFS if you recruit a first rounder - Get it right! develop them!

Gysberts? WTF....who apart from himself is responsible for his failure

Morton? Pick bloody 4. I am nonplussed.

This bloody club has to lift its game with recruiting.

those responsible are MORTON & GYSBERTS

I know that if they had been retained and had years like they did in 2011-12 the same folk who are here now bagging the FD would be .....bagging the FD for NOT getting rid of these two.

They have moved on..... So should we all.

It doesn't matter a stuff that they were first rounders ..... They are not now.

I doubt if he will get a game, even as a sub under Neeld if he doesn't get a defensive side to his game.

Bring on 2012.

Goes without saying :) I could see the logic -- and was happy with -- all of the drafting until Rodan. Rodan couldn't get a regular game at Port because he failed on the defensive side, like much of Melbourne's list. Why give away Gysberts for nothing and take on Rodan? I can justify Morton more because his confidence at Melbourne is shattered. But it still hurts.

If you can explain the thinking from Rodan on I would be curious.

Today reeks of firesale.

Yeah, I withold my membership. As a member I feel like a mushroom -- fed sh!t and kept in the dark. I'll always support Melbourne. I can't help it.

Witholding your membership, I suppose that is the same as taking your ball and going home

I don't work with the Footy Dept so I am not totally sure of the Rodan recruitment, but if we can get him anywhere near where he was about 18 months ago, a hardbodied quick midfield rotation who can kick a goal...that will do me...and we are not mushrooms Neeld said THERE WILL BE CHANGES....I AM NOT GOING TO DRAFT 8 KIDS....where is the surprise?

The ONLY thing that gets me is our insinstence of trading the new first round draft picks we got this year. We have brought players in who can bring in that winning culture, they might not themselves be A-graders but between them they have played in 5 grand finals, which is valuable. However weve got rid of 3,13 and 20 ( you can exclude 3 because it was used on a good young player) and have basically ended up with 4 and Viney. I have no complaints there but it was obvious from the beginning we were willing to trade picks which set the tone for clubs to come in and shaft us

who said we have been shafted?

Damian Barrett on Trade Radio has said we have been shafted.....so it must be right...NOT send the [censored] a tweet and tell him, I did.....Wallace going on about the changes, so sent a tweet about Hardwick doing the same thing at Richmond after another coach who's name escapes me was sacked

Build a bridge. The mistakes made were from a previous regime. They club has done something, they brought in Neeld.

He's cleaning up the mess and turning us into a proper club. Next

Agree...Harden up guys...Really...

Gysberts was talented but Lazy! Lazy doesnt cut it with Neeld! Or me...I WANT A FLAG!!!! So we do what it takes & I believe in Neeld and the current footy Dept.

Morton was and is an A1 DUD! If you cant see that well....

WC just got shafted!!

Theres alot of early draft picks that dont cut it..so dont get so worked up guys.

You cant always mould them...it comes down to the player to perform in the end.

Who the hell is responsible? is one question you can ask..

The other question is, How the F*%% do we fix it?

The FD was handed a poisoned chalice, there comes a time to cut losses.

The comforting thing from my point of view is that our FD are no longer a soft touch and games and positions on the list will need to be earned.

And the cold reality is that an outside mid with poor decision making and disposal efficiency and an inside mid with poor body strength are not going to cut it in the AFL.

Same as a skinny unathletic slow KPF.

You're not alone mate. The more I think about it, the angrier I get. It's a farce.

I don't plan on my renewing my membership. What was the point of putting up with all those poor years if the draft picks are then just discarded?

Dont renew it then. Go and support Richmond.

No mate, it's just the only leverage I hold -- my membership and my son's. Neeld said there would be changes, I supported that, and I could see the logic of the trades until yesterday afternoon. Since then it's gone nuts. Why did we just give away Stefan Martin? I can't help it, I liked him and I reckon he had a heart like a horse. Very peeved.

As to the peanut above, I know Demonland etiquette requires you to think the club people are geniuses until the next disaster, I struggle with that, sorry.

And while we're at it we should save the Tassie Tiger.

We can't change the past. We need to move on. Our current Footy Dept certainly have.

Neeld must win games next year and obviously didnt see these guys as any valueI wish them well Now Neeld has no excuses he has designed his own teamLets see how he goesAt least Gys and Morton have finally realised their potential What a joke

Best thing that's ever happened to this club.

A good long overdue shake up.

I've had enough of skinny kids and below par performances .

We had to get the balance right.

Still ave a lot of great kids in, Watts,Trengove,Tapscott,Blease,McDonald,Howe,Viney,Barry,Hogan and Possibly Wines.

Pederson and Dawes are still young.

It takes men to play this game.

Oh so you are still here, name calling very impressive, I would call myself an up to date member rather than peanut...can you call yourself the same?

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
