Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

yeah lets get O Rourke who weights in at whopping 73 kilos and needs to put on another 15. After all it worked great with Morton and Watts,

Oliver Wines at pick 4, without doubt.

Thankfully Neeld knows what he is doing and wont pass up brute force for a skinny outsider.

Good god MFC fans over rate kids....

Barry was predicited to be drafted anywhere from 40+ to rookie listed due to being very soft, not getting alot of the ball and struggling to impact games on a consistent basis.

Yet you compare to him to a former pick 4 young star like Stephen Hill who tore juniors up??

Barry has some potential and could be a good player, or be very average like JB is for us.

Either way he has shown nothing to even remotely compare him to Stephen Hill other than being fast and not a white guy

I am not attacking just you.... but every kid that ever comes to MFC gets touted to be this amazing star and compared to some established player.

Bennel was going to be Mcleod.

Morton looked like Goddard.

Watts was Riewoldt 2.

Gysberts played like Pendlebury.

Tapscott is the next Chapman.

The list goes on and on and on and on and on.

True, but there's some solace in the fact that the last NT pre-draft zone trade landed us Jeff Farmer.

Deals like this can and on occasions do work out really well.

Agree with you mate. No way to we have the luxury of banking on another skinny lad coming good. We've done that death.

We won't be able to call out Ollie Wines name quickly enough when the number 4 pick rolls around.

I reckon O'Rourke has a higher ceiling than Wines due to his better skill sets and all-round class, but that Wines will also be a very solid player and the surer bet.

Fair to say I'd be getting well ahead of myself, but it's almost comparable to a decision between Luke Ball or Chris Judd.

Or maybe Sewell and Dal Santo.

Still would go for the bigger bodied first-dibs contested ball-winner.

It's the smart option.

Terry Wallet loves Wines, in the TAC Draft predictions he picked Wines at pick 7 I think. Then when they gave Him the check for best player in the TAC Cup Terry said " I have a feeling Wines will go at pick 4".

So maybe he does know something that we don't.

I'd say it's exactly as some well-connected posters have said: if Wines is on the board at pick 4, we'll take him.

edit: and TW has heard it too.

Watching some highlights of Grundy yesterday and he looked a lot like big Mitch in the way he attacks the ball and moves around the ground. He should go to GWS and I know we need mids but would be and interesting discussion if he fell through. MacRae has a lot of what we need, run and carry, spread, a good kick, plays well in big games, playing school footy with Viney I'm sure we would know what he has to offer.

Having said that I've been pushing Toumpas up since last year, pity he will probably be gone. Wines looks to be the one.

When asked on trade radio today who we should use pick 4 on, i think the quote was "wines, wines, wines wines"

I don't have any particular affinity to Terry Wallace and i thought he was a bit of a dud coach, if not unlucky. But I do think that wines is something we desperately need.

And for all those people saying we have too many tacklers?.... im sorry, have you watched the dees in the last couple of years?

But we can pretend they're not on crack and hope that it might actually be true! Jack Viney even wants us to draft Toumpas. Maybe he's had a word to GWS...

But yeah, Wines for me if the crackheads are wrong.

I'd like to see the GWS pick Wines with they're 3rd Pick. Leaving Toumpas fall thru to us.

Then In a couple of years, I'd hope that Wines would want to come back to Vic, & choose the MFC as his preferred club.

I don't think you could go wrong with any one of Toumpas/Wines/O'Rourke/Grundy, but based on the fact that GWS WILL take Toumpas, I think Wines is the player that most fits our current needs. It's nice to know that we will definitely have a choice between at least two of these players, since Whitfield will be gone at #1.

This is spot on...

If Toumpas or Grundy slipped to pick 4 I think we would jump at them, but they will most likely be gone by then so the option really is Wines or O'Rourke.

O'Rourke has a great upside and provides us with some class.

Wines is ready to go now, he may not improve a heap once he is here but would still be bloody good.

We need stars.

Hate to get ahead of myself, but we look to have shored up our forward line for the next decade on paper, and our backline is the least of our worries with Frawley, T-Mac & a host of potential HBFs.

We need midfield stars.

Grundy may, in time, make whatever mids we have better, but we desperately need some star mids.

Whether we get that now, later, or find that it was already hiding on our list.

Without that class, the absolute best we can hope for is to be also-rans like the doggies of the past 5 years.

Yes.... people who "never really stood out" always get drafted at pick 4.

Even if 4 was overs, he was still top 10, Barry would never in any universe have been anywhere near top 10.

This is going a bit far. Althought I'm just going to wait and see what Barry becomes, if this years draft was a weaker one like 2003 where guys like Farren Ray, Raph Clarke, Kepler Bradley, David Trotter???, and Kane Tenace were top 10 picks, then Barry could well have been a top 10 pick. This year, from all reports there is a greater amount of top-line talent meaning that Barry wouldn't have gotten a look in as a top 10 pick. But I wouldn't go so far as to suggest he could never have been a top 10 pick ever.

The thing that i'm encouraged by, when it comes to Barry, is from the stories that I've read, only last year did he really commit himself to becoming an AFL footballer, and in that one year he made significant strides in his development. I think he could become a good player for us, but as with all draftees, it's going to depend on his work ethic and willingness to improve.

BTW, back on topic, I'm not sure if anyone heard wallace yesterday on Trade Radio, but he firmly believes we should take Wines. Don't know why, but he did mention the Viney connection, and how Wines and Jack are great mates.

Edit: Sorry guys just realised a few have already mentioned Wallace's comments.

Going by past lessons, only a couple of these top 5/6 names are going to make it as 'stars'. My thinking is that the first couple of years are extremely important in a players development in regards to confidence. The fact that Wines already has the body for AFL footy means that he is going to make an impact much much sooner than a 70kg O'Rourke (who I'm not convinced by). So in saying that Wines is the better option as their is less development to do on his body and this means he'll have more confidence going into top level footy than a few of the others. So Wines for me.

Watts can be used as an example here - thrown in way too early when he was a stck and his confidence was shattered. Although I guess it is a bit subjective per player and their attitude etc.

Wrong, our backline is not the least of our worries. What if Frawley goes down? Then we are farked, as we have no one to cover for him. We still need to bring in another big KPP capable of holding down CHB. I thought Sheahan would eventually take over this role but he is gone apparently. Unless we intend to stick McDonald on an intense muscle and strength gaining program over the pre-season, he won't be ready to hold down CHB on a regular basis for a few years yet. Unless of course we intend to use Sellar there, lol.

Hopefully Pederson is still on the cards and Neeld has him pencilled in for CHB, whilst the younger one's develop.

What if Frawley goes down?

What if Franklin goes down?

You can't replace your best players.

And I don't know where it is written that Pedersen will play CHB.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
