When is the first list lodgement anyway? Surely we need to start cutting blokes soon

1st list lodgement 31st October.

Now I've read that the numbers on senior list have increased but number of rookies decreased.

But I've forgotten the exact numbers can someone enlighten me.

I've been confused for a while now to why so many are calling for Davis to be delisted. The only reason he hasn't played is because we have Mcdonald, Frawley, Garland, Rivers, Watts and Sellar in the team and he doesn't push any of those out YET. Its not that he can't play, he's just developing along there. He was emergency for a few games and if he got a gig like Mcdonald did than who knows what would have happened. Definitely not a spud.

but one delisting I'm hoping for is Jetta. Dunno if he is contracted but not a big fan.

Is it true that there is no rookie list from next year onwards, but instead all listed players are on the main list?

Not heard this, but I hope so.

The concept of the rookie listed player is outdated and obsolete.

Why shouldn't all players on the payroll at the club be available for selection without the need for a clunky upgrade?

With so many mature-age rookies, the original intention has been lost.

Just to quote myself.

I now believe the 2013 lists will have 40 on the Senior list including Veterans.

I don't seem to find much about Rookies.

It would be interesting to see how mcdonald would go as a key forward. This would then possibly open up a spot for davis down back. I like Mcdonald at CHB but if davis could get a few games and go alright then we would really creat a lot of versatility through the key posts

Drafted as a forward/ruck so I'm very keen to see him down there, hopefully next season at some stage. Loving his work in the back half though.

If we have 40 on the primary list, based on this article it appears we can still have 4 rookies.

This is my list of MFC players currently out of contract:

OUT OF CONTRACT: FUTURES UNKNOWN Dan Nicholson Jake Spencer James Strauss Jamie Bennell Lynden Dunn Matthew Bate Neville Jetta Ricky Petterd Rohan Bail Troy Davis

OUT OF CONTRACT: 50/50 TRADE or DELISTING Clint Bartram (Knee issue) Jared Rivers (U-FA)

CONTRACTED PLAYERS OPTING FOR TRADE* Cale Morton Stephan Martin

NOTE: * indicated for CONTRACTED players is only based of rumours, like that of the potential Martin trades and that Morton has opted for one to be potentially set up.

CONFIRMED TO BE DELISTED Brad Green (Retired) Brent Moloney (R-FA to BL) Liam Jurrah (Retired) Lucas Cook (Trade OR Delisted) Kelvin Lawrence (Delisted Rookie)

In regards to the list I think players like Nicholson and Bail will be re-signed (only based on my interpretations of MFC media and Neeld press conferences), I think Bate, Bartram, and either Jetta or Bennell may go, as for Rivers the ball is obviously in his court, and finally I think Petterd (trade) and Davis (delist) will go. As for the others like Spencer (depending on Martin), and Strauss I have no idea.

Sorry I placed in a table but it got messed up.

It's definitely 40 on primary list + 6 on rookie list for 2013 onwards. (Plus NSW/International/Irish rookies etc.)

There was talk during the last CBA negotiation of scrapping the rookie list and having a larger list, but it looks like that didn't eventuate.

Dunny will be a stayer (as I think he should be). I'm sure I read somewhere that he and the club are close to finalising a new contract.

Thanks Balls (sorry old habits die hard)

Now we know we will have 40 on the primary list.

That means we either get 2 more on board or don't de-list as many as was first thought.

If morton has one more year on contract, the club might as well leave him on and compete for that wing position. who knows he might surprise us, or he might not and we delist him next year.

Lets be honest, no one will over the club anything for cale.

Bate on the other hand is not a bad player, bit slow and down on confidence but could do well with a fresh start.

Cook i don't care about so much.

But i thought Davis showed some real talent in his debut game, i think he played a couple of games early this year?

He looked good in the air, big guy, competitive.

I think he could def develop to be a good back man.

does anyone know if Evans will be promoted ?

really hope we can find room for him, thought he showed some promise

only needs to manage his injuries, has barely had a chance to show his ability.

Seems like his back is coming good so it would be another wasted year if we let him rehab on our list then moved him on .

I think he has a bit of talentand it willl be on display next year .

I hope evans is a keeper. Even with his injury riddled year he managed to show some form at Casey with no fitness base at all.

I have said on another thread Evans has a contract that guarantees him an upgrade to senior list next year which was agreed prior to Neeld arriving. Nicholson has exactly the same contract.

Strange contract for the club to draw up, I'd have thought.

You probably recall they did the exact same thing with Jordie Mckenzie in order to have them play out the full 3 yrs as a rookie they promise contract them an iron clad upgrade.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
