Spot on bbb59, the Pies Must move someone on, so give us a goldsack or so?

.............

Presumably to make for Clokes bigger contract? Wellingham wants to go...that's it. Dawes doesn't have to go (tho' Eddie is already talking in past tense).

Our Head of Recruiting's biggest decision this year is whether or not to recruit his son. Our under the pump coach is considering trading pick 4 for Wellingham and Dawes.

The MFC board has a lot to answer for.

Nothing has happened yet. Wait and see what pans out. And Viney is not the sole arbiter of players & picks; it will be team/group decisions.

................

I'm Starting to consider our real position is to offer 26 for Dawes, take it or leave it. And they can deal with weagles for wellingham

Sounds about right to me.

If rebuild through early draft picks was the only answer, we wouldn't be where we are today.

While Pick 3 or 4 for Dawes and Wellingham seems steep, there is something to be said for acquiring known quantaties in exchange for a risk (i.e. draft pick spent on a player only tested against other underage players). Plenty of top 10 draft picks have been duds in the past, there is no guarantee.

When you look at Sydney and Geelong, they are not littered with high draft pick players. They have a culture that breeds success and develops players to the best of their abilities.

I'd love to have our cake and eat it too, but what price do you put on bringing in a culture that should lead to better returns on the whole playing list's abilities?

I'd trust Neeld to know what Dawes' true abilities, potential, leadership and work ethic is. I don't rate Dawes on the field, but he'd still be the 2nd best tall forward on our list...

The other point would be when talk of trades have got out in the past, they often end up being half true. The draft pick is the wrong one, or there are other picks to even it out, or another player involved.

Given what I've heard about Neeld, he rates attitude higher than talent. Right or wrong, I believe most of the moves this period that may leave us scratching our heads will be around moving out players with the "wrong" attitude, and bringing in players with the "right" attitude.

If at the end of this period Melbourne have brought in 4 or 5 definite first 22 players with mature bodies and around 100 games experience, that will be massive for onfield competitiveness in 2013 and will probably mean double the wins.

The club can do that without giving away pick 4.

Rumour: "MFC may trade pick 4 for 2 premiership players that the coach knows very well"

Demonland: meltdown.

Get a grip fellas.

So you "don't rate Dawes on the field" yet would entertain dealing him in for pick 4 in a superdraft?

Yep great post. No wonder Stuie loved it.

Thought and examples are useless without sound logic to back it up. You should know that Stu.

And who's this Range Rover guy? You seem to have an unhealthy obsession with him.

Geelong got their flags on the back of stars and those stars have kept them at the pointy end ever since. And those stars have included F/S picks such as Ablett and Scarlett, plus Hawkins. They've also got stars who were top 10 draft picks in Bartel and Selwood. Another of their guns was a former pick 2 in Ottens, who they acquired with two first round draft picks. And yes, they've also drafted well.

Where do you think our "stars" are most likely to come from ? I'll give you a tip. One is also a F/S and the others are likely to be sharp end draft picks. Once you get a few stars on your list it's far easier to regenerate and stay in the game. Adelaide stayed in the game for a decade on the back of their stars in Riccuito, McLeod, Goodwin, Hart ...

I'm ok with giving pick 13 for Dawes but pick 4 for Dawes and Wellingham I feel isn't the best idea.

Not a good idea forcing someone to go to a club they don't want to, they will play will no hart and wast tthe clubs time.

and will be seeking a trade as soon as contract expires. Move on Dees, hes not that good anyway.

Exactly! thats the difference between a list like geelongs or what adelaide had and the bulldogs. bulldogs had a couple of guns and lots of b graders. they fell very quickly didnt they. this draft is the most fruitful the club will have for a long time (..i hope). make the most of it. dont [censored] it away like a drunk who thinks hes suddenly rich cause its payday

I would be filthier if I were a Bulldogs fan and the talk about giving up picks 5 and 6 for a 17 year old WA kid a year away from playing???

Channel 7 news just repeated it.

Channel 7 news just said Dogs met with Dawes and have offered their second round pick. That is the opposition and the benchmark so far, if true. Our compo pick for Rivers/Moloney would be ahead of that and on the mark. Also gives much needed salary cap relief to Pies.

Worsfold said he would try and get a deal done for Wellingham.

sugesting tompous goes pick 2, viney goes second round, i would like:

pick 3 and 4, two of-wines,grundy,hogan(minidraft), o rouke

pick 13-kennedy,stringer

pick 26-viney

third round pick + martin for dawes + maybe 4th round????

to be honest as much as a rate wellingham, i dont think he is worth what they are asking + mcuh rather pic kup a jet kid with a higher pick. dawes i think maybe handy but defs not worth pick 13!!!! i can't beleive people think thats a fair trade!!

Posted

Pick 4? Good lord no!

Why stop at that? Why not pick 3 & 4 plus 13 for a large bunch of B/C graders from other clubs that will struggle to get us out of the bottom 4?

We need a number of elite mids and one more quality KPF. Dawes and Wellingham are not these.

We are getting absolutely shafted by the pies over these so called super trades! what the ^&*% is neeld thinking?! The pies have brought in a 30yr old has been to replace this guy we are willing to give pick 4 for!!!!

It's a newspaper story with no reference to Neeld making this offer. Why would you assume it's true, or that Neeld is stupid?

Today's latest Trade Whispers on FN:

"UPDATE: 7/10/12 – MELBOURNE is likely to snare Collingwood's Chris Dawes with pick 13 as early as Tuesday as negotiations between the two camps ramped up yesterday.

The Dees had also been in discussions to get Sharrod Wellingham and in a double deal with Dawes for pick four, but Wellingham wants to return to WA and join West Coast.

West Coast will offer its first round selection – pick 17 – for Wellingham."

I don't mind pick 13 for dawes. I think he can return to his form of a couple of seasons ago, but i do think our time would be better spent getting pedersen. Could we potentially get both??? that would really set up our fwd line :)

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
