Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Wellingham/Dawes super trade (scuppered)

II would expect Dawes and Wellingham to be very serviceable additions to our list, but not at any price. Imo pick 4 should be retained to draft some (hopefully) elite talent, and clearly Dawes and Wellingham are a long way off the elite category.

Very Harsh dee old , given our superb prior ability to develop players, I would expect these two to become absolute champions!

show some faith man!

I will be furious if we use pick 4 on both of them, I'd do pick 13/14 for Wellingham, our Rivers compo pick and Petterd or just Martin for Dawes.

Pick 4 needs to be used on a gun future star.

This club surely can't be that stupid - hopefully the HUN has been doing it's research off Bigfooty again.....

If this is true - i hope that GC select Viney at 2 in the F/S nominations tomorrow to save us from ourselves

(Just realised it was the AGE) No wonder Eddie is out and about spruiking Dawes and Wellingham will be always welcome at Pie land if we are giving pick 4

What really annoys me about this situation is that Wellingham could potentially be a PSD pick up if Collingwood and West Coast can't get a deal done

We could get him for free - no pick 4 FFS

A hipster [censored] in Wellingham and a Watts/Miller love child are not worth pick 4

From Emma Quayle regarding Wellingham and Dawes for pick 4:

"trust me it's being discussed! I think they're mad too. But Dees can't talk anyone into going there"

That is interesting BH - I beleive it's close to being spot on, but we don't have to 'sell our souls' to attract average players to the club....... I understand we need to pay a price - but not pick 4

I'd rather we go to the draft then use pick 4 on those 2

Today's latest Trade Whispers on FN:

"UPDATE: 7/10/12 – MELBOURNE is likely to snare Collingwood’s Chris Dawes with pick 13 as early as Tuesday as negotiations between the two camps ramped up yesterday.

The Dees had also been in discussions to get Sharrod Wellingham and in a double deal with Dawes for pick four, but Wellingham wants to return to WA and join West Coast.

West Coast will offer its first round selection – pick 17 – for Wellingham."

Then don't [censored] FORCE IT. Just accept the situation and find other ways to win out this post-season.

This is amateur hour if true.

At the moment I could live with 13 for Dawes - I am sure he is not worth 13 in this draft but other ppl can discuss that, at least it is not pick 4 haha

Spot on Deers - if players don't want to come here I am happy to keep building talent - I am patient to give Neeld a chance if he can show he develop what we need and stay competitive. Winning is important but if he can keep the side competitive until we develop a strong team I will am happy to stick with Neeld

Don't sell out Neeld!!

I'm all for it, because we will get two experienced premiership players.

It's what we need ... along with Shannon Byrnes.

We can't afford to stock our team with just kids, we are desperate for experience.

I think it all hinges on whether Suns nominate Viney or not, if they don't I would definitely do the trade because we could still end up with Toumpas or Hogan, Viney, possibly a Stringer at 13, Dawes, Wellingham, Byrnes.

That's six players who could be injected straight into the team.

Remember Dawes had a hand injury last year, and was clunking everything that came his way before that, and only 24.

Wellingham was one of their best performers in the finals, and is exactly what we need with his out side run.

I don't disagree with what you said at all Deezee - it's pretty spot on.

What I don't like is offering pick 4 - I am not expert but it seems like a very high price to pay - especially when Wellingham could be picked up via the PSD if we offer him a big contract and he can't get a trade from COLL to WCE or FRE

We can potentially play hard ball here and only pay pick 13 for both

PS - I just want to state I don't care if Wellingham made it to WCE, just saying if the trade doesn't happen we could get both!!

PPS - I am obviously assuming this is all true - Where I don't think it is true as I don't think we'd trade 4 without know where Jack is going - but it is fun to discuss!

Can't see how offfering a higher pick is going to convince a reluctant player.

IMO a fairer trade would be pick 13 and Martin for Dawes and wellingham.

We obviously fill a void in the midfield and forward line with experienced premiership players

Collingwood get a decent ruckman/utility roll type player with plenty of upside could develope into a decent player with the right development programm and a decent first round draft pick.

Pretty good result for both clubs I would say but only if both are 110% willing to come play for the dees

Pick 13, Petterd & Martin sounds better.

It all comes down to where we get Viney!

Dawes & Wellingham!!!! They are the topic of this conversation.

I will re phrase the questiion. Why is it a fairer trade for us to add another player to the mix? It may be a good trade for them but certainly not for us in my opinion.

No to a first round pick for either and or both these players.

Dawes for pick 13 I could probably live with. Luckily Wellingham doesn't want a bar of MFC so we can save our pick 4 and get an elite kid.

I think the club could do something good with pick 4 this year. The footy department has come a long way in the last few years and we are better equipped to recruit and develop these days.

Forget about Dawes as we could do a trade with Martin and a pick for him. I want Hogan but if we don't I'd rather wines/toumpass then bloody Wellingham. If Eagles are offering 17 then offer 13 for Weilligham and if the pies play hard they can keep him and go over the salary cap.

Offering pick 4 for Wellingham and Dawes is crazy, 13 for the pair would be a good deal for boh parties.

Yet again, the Melbourne Football Club seem out of step with reality. Each time you get a bit optimistic about the direction of the club you get a sobering reality dose.

I would normally have great difficulty believing a club could push this trade, but maybe we are the new Dockers.

Had Dawes and Wellinham been in our side this year what would the difference have been? How many more games would we have won? Not many, if any. Wellingham is a capable second string midfielder and Dawes a moderate second/third tall forward. Both are worth second round picks at best individually. Pick 4 gives us the opportunity to draft a genuine future star - Hogan or a potentially elite midfielder. We may need to wait a couple of years for the choice to bear fruit, but we'd still be shizen next year with Dawes and or Wellingham anyway. I'd rather us take Viney at three, trade 4 for the mini-draft, utilise 13 and offer 26 and the steak knives for Dawes.

Short answer - No

Long answer - these 2 players are B and C players at best (think Heffernan and Holland - would anyone pay pick 4 for those 2?). Both have seemed reasonably competent in a top 4 side surrounded by 'A-Grade' talent in their prime. Should they both get to MFC they will be the number one targets for opposition sides with no more hiding behind talented team mates.

This article is no doubt Collingwood generated propaganda designed to put the heat on our recruitment team. Hopefully our team can see reason through the mist of our need to get established talent and see this trade for what it is - a BIG win for Collingwood.

Despite the unknowns associated with a high end draft pick, their trade out value should be associated with the exchange of a big name player(ala Judd to Carlton) and not a B and C grader package. Add to this their current standing at their current club (one who won't get a game next year and another who wants out) and why would we be so quick to offer up so much so soon.

Collingwood cannot afford to pay Wellingham what he wants and would not get a desired trade from WC given Wellingham's stated desire to get there. I would be interested in getting him but only for a 2nd rounder and possibly a player. Be strong MFC and pay what he is worth and don't allow our well known desperation for established players dictate the terms.

Dawes 2012 has destroyed near all of his trade value. Whilst I respect his ability to make an AFL list, Dawes is a very limited big man, who is neither imposing with his size or damaging to the opposition. He is a confidence player who currently has none and is unlikely to find any with us.

The luxury of being around good players with elite delivery at Collingwood has hidden his limited capabilities. I struggle to see any benefit in getting him especially given what we will be asked to pay for him.

I can't believe such a poor piece of journalism deserves a thread of its own.

Dawes patently is not worth a first round pick and the Dawes/Wellingham combo is definitely not worth a pick 4

people are playing up the "no-one wants to go to Melbourne" angle in the hope they can rip-off off a vulnerable Melbourne.

We'd better not fall for this cheap tripe and give up our crown jewels for sows' ears.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
