Sorry?

Based on what exactly..?

The fact that every time he plays that is his position and role for gameday, regardless of whether or not his skill set may be needed on a HBF/Wing every now and again!

Would love him at the Dees. Not sure why he isn't getting a game this year, but his first two year have been good. He has had big impact on a number of games I've seen him play, has pace to burn, crumbs and snaps well, and even roamed up the ground all the way to half back to provide run when needed.

I'd give up anything after pick 20 for him. People overrate draft picks. What's our 2nd rounder? Low 20s? Deal done. Small forward with great pace sorted for 10 years.

Viney complicates this because there's a chance our second round pick will be earmarked for him. First rounder and third rounder seem too high and low respectively for Banfield. If we took Viney with 25 we'd need to get involved in a three way trade to get Banfield. Of course if we're forced to use our first rounder on Viney it's all a moot point.

Anyway, as others have said it seems as if he's just fallen behind two genuine gun small forwards, so the usual "can't get a game" mantra may not apply here. If the due diligence indicates that that is all there is to it then I'm all for it. Haven't seen much of him play this year but he's always seemed a handy player to me in the past and he happens to play a role we're desperate for.

Maybe the apocryphal Petterd to Qld trade?

That seems cheap if Banfield is a genuine player. Is Petterd a better player than he has exhibited this year?

And I assume RR's suggestion of Bate is taking the wee.

So all of those who jumped on me honestly believe that Todd Banfield is the kind of player we need! This is a bloke who bobs up in parts and pieces in another mediocre team, and all of a sudden he's a godsend to a team that need a small forward...hmmm... must just be me who doesn't see the value in it...oh well enjoy the discussion!

In know way do I think he'd be the answer to any big problems but there is no reason why we can't use trades as well as picks to bolster our list. I really think we've got room for upwards of 10 delistings when you add the rookies and senior list players so we should be looking at adding talent from state leagues and other teams. Sydney's end of 2009 recruitment period was prime example of what can be done with some smart moves. Mumford, McGlynn, Kennedy, Seaby, Rohan, Jetta and Reid all in one year without giving away 3 top picks.

If Banfield can keep working on his game and plays the right style of football that will suit Neeld's game plan then I'd be very interested in him and would easily part way with our 3rd round pick, probably not the second rounder. As for him being a player who bobs up in pieces, I think you'll find besides the very best small forwards in the league that is what all the rest do.

Small forward who can't crack it in the Brisbane team at the moment and has to compete with Zorko and Green for the small forward role. Plays his role well and has pace. Anyone want him?

I don't see how this makes Banfield appealing? He lost his spot to a guy who has been overlooked in the system for 5 years.

If anything it says the system has a lot more to offer than what gets put on AFL lists.

An attempt to find another Zorko far outweighs giving Brisbane anything for Banfield IMO.

I still think he is rated pretty highly up here by the Lions. He is a good little small forward, but lets himself down with his set shots sometimes. If he were available at a decent price I definitely wouldn't be against it, but as I said, I still think he is well and truly in their plans.

is this super coach talk or the real thing? If it's the real thing better consult with MNeeld.

Straight swap for Bate. A-ranga-trade?

.

Consensus here is ...Banfield we can clear for a Bail or Bennell....NOT Bate

Nippy little goal kicker is out of favour with Voss. Have no idea. Maybe too many ranga's lol

Now heres the answer to our small forward needs

wouldn't hurt, we do need small crumbing forwards and he has been reasonably successful at the lions. Nice pick up if it was to happen :)

nah...pass rather Shannon Byrnes

i don't think it would be instead of brynes, i think it would be aswell as...

Sounds nice, but is this just hypothetical? or has his name been mentioned?

if hypothetical, i suppose there are plenty of small forwards in the league that would be wonderful.

Definitely worth a crack. Fallen back in the pecking order with Zorko and whoever else in front of him but is still a good little player and has real speed.

Josh Green is another recent player in competition for spots for the small forward along with Zorko.

I thought Banfield wasn't a bad player. Seems to have been overtaken. Might be worth looking at if a very late pick.

I seem to recall someone mentioning him ages ago ( come to think of it it might have been me lol )

Hes out of that 'click' ... Out of favour obviously . Be a goodd fit. He can join our 'red' club :)

All jokes aside i rated him. Hes still not that old i think.. A lot of upside. Has games under belt and ready to go.

Ah yep that's who I was thinking of.

Anyway, Banfield adds one thing we are really really desperate for - leg speed! Wouldn't take too much to get this deal done, so get out there MFC and do it.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
