Great player and has done a mighty job at Casey. If circumstances had allowed he would have been a great addition to the full time coaching staff.

Best of luck for your future Brett.

Why every Casey Coach we had for last 4 years quit after 1 year?

The way Melbourne treat Casey around finals time is the reason. Whats the point of coaching all year then Melbourne pull all the listed players? Stand alone is the way to go.

He's off to support his 15 yr old son Jake with his footy. Might be one to watch for 2016 F/S.

Great coach, was lucky enough to play under him at Sandy. Hard, determined and always got the best out of his players

Great shame. From a complete outsiders perspective he got the best out of the Casey players and also worked well with the current Melbourne coaching staff. It can't be an easy gig to coach your own team to the top of the ladder whilst also having to work with a dominant partner whose interests may not coincide with your own

Brett (we used to call him "Dontcha" which seemed clever at the time) is one of my all time favourite players. If he had the inclination also believe that he would make an excellent assistant at AFL level

One of my all-time favourite Dees players who has done a great job at Casey. Sad to see him go.

Havnt read the article because of stupid herald sun and there subscription. But anychance of getting him as a part time assistant at the dees? 20 hours a week could make a real diffirence keeps him involved in footy, allows him more time with his family and sounds like he has the ability to get the most out of players (something we have lacked for a longtime)

How could anyone seriously coach Casey, complete waste of time, work hard all year and then have no players for the finals.

I just clicked on the link then and it worked strange? Anyway my theory of him being a part time assistant won't work after reading the article. Good luck to him and hope young jake is as good as his old man another father and son would be handy.

Here is a perfect example of why the alignment does not work.

A coach works his Butt off to get a "good" side (not great) to the top of the ladder, but come September when players are really needed...They are not available.

What is the point?

STAND ALONE MFC RESERVE SIDE PLEASE.

I really don't see why this news has ANYTHING to do with what you're saying. He's quit for family reasons and because the job takes up too much time, not going to coach anywhere else.

Also, it doesn't matter if it's a stand alone or affiliate team, MFC players will always take precedence.

Its got everything to do with it. How many hours were put in for no reward. Not seeing family & then come September BANG. Finished.

Casey has lost it's past 8 finals. Who would want the job?

Time to wave goodbye.

“During the finals my son (Jake) was going through some trial games with the Dandenong Stingrays at Under 16 level and I missed seeing them.

Hate to take something like this out of the article but could be nice.

WYL...give it a rest....this was a thread to thank Brett Lovett for his efforts which most have done, except you see it as yet another opportunity to bag everything about MFC AGAIN........we know....there is a smalll group on this board who just want to be negative constantly.........

A an absolute stalwart in defence for the Dees, who got everything out of himself as a player, and it seems that as a coach he was able to get the very best out of his players. Did a fantastic job with Casey, particularly given that he only coached on a part-time basis. I'm sorry to see him go, but I greatly admire him for his decision and the reasons behind it.
