Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

We owe it to Mitch Clark to get some quality midfielders and Improve our side.

Actually, we owe it to our fans and the club needs to do something, I'd say we'd be into him pretty hard.

At least it sounds like we are having a dip, I don't mind this Neeld bloke.

Honestly, in my opinion we will get Wellingham.

We will offer picks/ players and plenty of money.

It would be crazy to say Melbourne wouldnt be a chance to get him.

This is nothing more than a teenage boys wet dream.

Fanciful thinking at its best.

Just because he has a relation with Neeld and Brown, doesn't mean we will get him. It's along the lines of Judd barracked for Melbourne so we're a chance to get him. He's in the Pies best 22, a walk up start, and it's not like the Pies will be out of contention next year. Especially if Cloke leaves he'll be demanding more at Collingwood, and will get it. If you ask me that's the only reason he's put talks on hold.

"Especially if Cloke leaves"

this is the key mate. What happens if Cloke doesn't leave?

With every goal Clokey kicks in September, Eddies egomaniacal desperation to retain him increases. The more desperate he gets the more he pays him. The more he pays him the less there is for Sharrod, Tyson, Harry and whoever else is OOC. It is fanciful for a Collingwood supporter not to expect that at least 1 doesn't get tipped out. It's when they do that we need to be ready to pounce. I wouldn't bat an eyelid at a 4 year deal for $2 - 2.5 Million for Sharrod. 4 years and $1.5 for Tyson

Really??

If Cloke stays they can't afford him. Simple.

The AFL is littered with examples of players and coaches getting back together again so it isn't preposterous as you would make out. How did we get Clark?? Through Jade Rawlings who had a relationship with him as assistant at Brisbane. Ross Lyon, Zac Dawson is another that rolls off the top of my head. Heffernan and Gary Moorcroft had a relationship with Daniher.

Sorry but I couldnt disagree with you more.

I agree. Would you leave the biggest club in the country where you play in front of 50,000 every week and a chance to win flags to go to a minnow ?

They'd have to pay me double and I think I'd still say no.

I agree with what you are saying but Moorcroft and Heffernan had a relationship with Daniher how? he was an assistant at Freo prior to being at Melbourne... I know there is the obvious essendon link with the name Daniher, but wasn't aware of a direct link.

Money talks [censored] walks.

If you're Sharrod and you finish higher in the B&F this year than Daisy Thomas (and there is a good chance he will) yet you know he is getting 500K and you are getting 250K you'd have to be some kind of loyalist to go, ah bugger it, not to worry.

But it's more sensible to talk about likely scenarios.

I'm guessing that Melbourne would offer Wellingham around $500k per year and Collingwood about $350k per year. In that situation it'd be a no brainer for me. I'd stay. If Melbourne upped it to $550K, I'd say to Collingwood I want $400k. But I'd probably stay for $375K.

I'd want to stay and win flags with my mates. $375K is still great coin if invested wisely and Collingwood is a club that looks after it's own way beyond football. But that's just me.

I reckon the difference in the two clubs offers will be much greater than that. We're at polar ends of the salary cap; my understanding is that even with Clark, with our front ended contracts and higher paid players like Moloney and Green making way, we're still in a position pay the right player a considerable amount of money. I don't think it's out of the question for us to offer Wellingham something like $750k to Collingwood's $350k. It might be worth than he's worth technically, but if you've the money to spare and are better off with the player than without then it's money well spent for mine.

This is all just guesswork, of course, and obviously only applies if Cloke stays at Collingwood. If Cloke goes it'll greatly increase Collingwood's ability to get closer to our offer and it's a no brainer that he'll say.

You'd offer a $350K player $750K because we can? To me that's madness. I want the club to get better too, but at what cost? Wellingham isn't an A grader, he's B. There comes a point where you have to manage your list with a semblance of logic and responsibility.

Well that's the question, what is the cost? The club surely budgets to spend 100% of the salary cap, so if you can spend it without detrimenting your ability to pay your other players, which it doesn't under my scenario as I've assumed we've got the cap room (and it doesn't impact other aspects of the club because it's budgeted money), then what's illogical or irresponsible about it? What damage do you believe this would cause?

I agree with Nasher. I also disagree with any talk that Wellingham is a B grader - he seems to be underrated by A LOT of folks.

He is a very good footballer and he's still very young, would be an amazing get for any club.

Something you are not factoring in is that many of these players consider their futures beyond AFL when in negotiations. Many players have bad habits they need to sustain or expensive lifestyles etc. which results in money being much more important than success, especially if they have already had some success.

These guys only get maybe one good chance in their careers to really up the ante and get a big contract to earn the money to set themselves up for the rest of their lives. So an extra 100k a year over 4 years is a big difference to them. 400k> repeated success for some players. Especially if they have no other skillsets to provide them with work beyond footy.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
