Here it is from the man himself..................BP interviewed after the 2010 draft..............and in his own words on Lucas Cook "he was a bit of the forgotten man in this draft".................so alarm bells didn't ring BP?????

Talks a lot about Cooks endurance, work rate, kicking, decision making..............and goes on to say "IF" he marks it inside 50, he scores most times or words to that effect.

No mention of contested marking, strong hands, crashing packs, etc normally associated with quality key forwards.

Perhaps he was still caught up in the GF replay of 2010, and the form of Riewoldt.

Can't be a complete dill though............no complaints with Howe or Tommy McDonald!

[media=]

He says elite about everything with Cook!!!!

Interesting that when it finished i watch highlights of Mcdonald, played a lot forward and kicked a few goals!

Even if he had the body he would be $#!t.... need to delist now stop wasting time and cut our losses

developing players of this type should be done using the rookie list

Further suggestion today in the Herald-Sun club by club trade whispers update that Cook has 'quit'. Seems to me that it is just carrying on the rumor from Jay Clark the week prior.

BP must be thankful he "Quit" otherwise now his existance would be in some danger. To think that this clown was paid a wage.

Better not have quit without putting himself on the trade table first...

A bit harsh having a massive retrospective go at Prendergast. I don't recall hearing any criticism at the time these guys were drafted.

Blimey don't open that can of worms. My recollection is different - at least in terms of Cook.

I certainly recall having convos with fellow melbourne supporters at the surprise when Gyberts and Cook's names were called

Me too Viney12

But you hope they knew what they were doing.

It is now very obvious that their selections were way less than inspired.

We ( they ) gambled and Lossed.

Time to make the best of the situation and again it will be made by people with more knowledge than me and you.

Well I hope they have more knowledge.

That is how the system works.

As supporters we are stuck with the results.

Unlike some here I find it difficult to think well of BP and DB.

That's life I guess

Haha, alright, close the can of worms. I just don't see the value in launching attacks on this guy who doesn't even work at the club any more. Look to the future.

If you don't acknowledge your mistakes and learn from them junior there is ever possibility you will repeat them.

He doesn't work at the club anymore for good reasons.

You are kidding of course??

BP was a disaster. Like all recruiters unfortunately his mistakes aren't evident for 3-4 years.

There is a reason he is not here and there is a reason he is no longer a recruiter.

BP was a disaster......got to blame some one........I was waiting for CC to get a name check again ok let's see this preseason and see what we get with Howe, Blease, Nicholson, Strauss, Grimes etc etc and then perhaps we can.......every single club does not get it right every single time......or perhaps one of the posters on here can tell me which Club has

BP mentioned that Cook is an elite decision maker and an elite kick on both sides.

Having watched a few VFL games, I can see where BP was coming from. Cook is indeed a skillful player with good finishing skills when he gets the ball. But perhaps he's not a forward.

Is it worth keeping Cook on our list for another year, but letting him play wing or half-back flank (a Watts/Strauss/Morton type role)?

Even if that was the case, so what ? Supporters aren't paid to recruit. They place their faith in the club to improve the list. And when they've been hoodwinked it's hardly surprising they haven't copped it sweet. Those drafts were crucial.

Besides selections can't be judged until a few years down the track. Every recruiter in the land expects retrospective judgment. They'd be doing it to themselves, so it's naive to think we won't.

He is way too slow for down back. Any half decent afl forward would carve him up for pace.

Decision to take these players in the draft aside, the fact that the club was training at a lower standard then the elite clubs, and did not have that culture of rewarding hard work and playing the role and structures set out by the coaches did not help the development of either Cook & Gysberts as AFL Footballers.

The change of focus by Neeld, Craig & Misson to set standards that will give players the ability to mix it with the Big Boys in the league means that if either of these boys buy in and work hard to what the Football department expects of them they will start developing into quality players they were drafted for.

If either of these players think that they will get it easier in other clubs then they are in with a chance to remain as above average VFL players.

Now, There you go...

Defence.

Check it, him out down back. He has a very good feel for reading the play, or seemed to last year. A really acurate kick (field kicking as well IMO), a solid mark.

Let him be the hunter. I've always seen Cook as a defender, and posted on here for the last 1 1/2 Yrs.

Tommy Mcdonald IMO will end up forward, as I've been saying since I saw his first few games.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
