Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Adelaide Game a Reality Check: Trengove

What could he have said? Well Greeny said"I wish I could have been better".....poignant honest and straight up. It made me thank Brad for doing his best. He was never very smooth in front of the cameras but I think that shows what happens when you realise that stepping off the reality bus and into real life allows you to be honest.... Stuff the outdated garbage and geriatrics that Neil Craig keeps recyclicing....get Sally McClennan in to teach them some personal pride, how to focus on the job at hand and talk from the heart.

The media gives us no respect, so we shouldn't bother giving honest or useful answers until things change.

Problem is - i dont think that it was intentional to give such an insipid answer.

I understand they are kids and will cut slack - but Collingwood had a reality check on the weekend -we had more of the same check.

he was probably using the notes handed down to him from Brad :o

Looks like we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. Brad was usually awful but I reckon he showed something on Sunday. The awful truth is that there is no Brad Murphy in the approved MFC speakers list.....I reckon Jonesy would be ok if they gave him a regular gig, a surfing analogy would go a long way

I was referring to the cheat sheets Brad used when he was captain.

I don't know what you want him to say....maybe......"We are absolute crap and I'm pissing off now while I still can"

Or...."sorry not talking to anyone anymore, even when I am co captain"

What do you want him to say?????

Nothing would be better than that.

My reality check came in round 1

I took exception with a tweet from Morton last year after a big defeat - "difficult day- learned alot" - I tweeted back - you didnt learn anything yet - you saw alot. How you play next week and thereafter will determine how much you have learned"- to his credit he tweeted back and said "agree!"

Fair enough and I was bemoaning the lack of a ROBERT Murphy or even a BRAD Sewell.Perpaps it comes with practise but .......I'm not sure that Trenners has the right stuff for the Press...forward or otherwise.

Check out the video for the interview, it comes across much better than the article does. I've got no problem with what Jack had to say.

I have stopped reading Matt Burgan articles though. Cliched, over-emotional crap that makes me want to punch through a wall.

to come out with obvious platitudes like that means jt is just not on the reality bus. our reality check is now 47 years old last time i checked.

There has been the odd year of hope in there bd

But sadly it is getting close to 10 years since the last one.

Just FYI, players are required to do media. Do you think it would be better to do a 'no comment' interview???

Get a grip.

I work in the media mate. A bad interview is worse than silence.

Tony Abbott comes to mind.

Grip your own.

I caught the reality bus the other day. It was full of crazy people and junkies. All of them dressed in red and blue muttering meaningless platitudes and threatening to post them on Demonland.

Get on the optimism bus. It's full of happy, smiling people who understand that next year brings a whole new set of possibilities.

I actually think the whole AFl attitude to players and coaches having to do interviews is wrong.

What was gained from watching Ratten last weekend after his career just went down the toilet.

Or some kid clearly out of his depth?

you know I wonder if he actually said that. he could have been set up e.g. experienced reporter in friendly voice says "so Jack I suppose playing a top 4 side like Adelaide was a bit of a reality check?" to which Jack says "er yeah I suppose it was"

just supposin' myself here but i don't trust the media one little bit

Absolutely agree - but unfortunately that's the broadcasting deal that applies to each club. What's the point in an endless parade of kids talking the same garbage?

Although Patrick Dangerfield's interview on SEN after the game was exceptional. He is articulate, intelligent and frank, which is more than can be said for most.

They are obliged to do them. Just like Tony Abbott. How does it look when Tony Abbott walks out of Parliament and refuses to say anything? Bad.

They don't have the 'silence' option, in reality.

No they don't. But the club needs to put more time into the media contingent because the above effort makes a mockery of us supporters. And we need them all

People are gettingjack of it.

People just need to harden up and work out what's candid and what's just an automatic response. There are heaps of reasons why you would end up with an interview full of fluff, so it's always going to happen.

The player might be nervous. He might be unsure about what he's allowed to say within grounds of confidentiality. He might get ambushed with a hand grenade of a question (see Brock McLean). All these things lead to your thought process feeling completely clouded. You feel rushed and you don't give yourself the time to really digest what you've been asked or really think through your answer and you tend to just follow the path the interviewer has put you on even if it's not the right one, or you allow the interviewer to put words in your mouth because you can't find any. This is so often the case:

Interviewer: Do you think yesterday was a reality check for the club?

Player X: Yeah, I think it probably was actually.

Headline: Player X says match was reality check for club.

When I post on Demonland, if I read something that I believe deserves a considered response, I usually take a few minutes to think about it. Get up, get a glass of water or whatever and really think it through before posting. The net result, I hope, is a well considered post that conveys the correct message clearly. The reason I do this is because I know that I'm a terrible on the spot thinker. I need time to think my answer through, otherwise I make a poor post. This is something I've learned through adulthood, though. I reckon if I was a 20 year old footballer doing interviews you'd have been tearing your hair out in frustration. As I said, not everyone is Jack Grimes, who is clearly a good on the spot thinker. Grimes gives a good interview.

Really, though, bottom line is that I can't believe people are wailing about this. This has only been happening since footy media existed, surely we've learned to just accept that that's how it is by now. I've wasted more than enough of my lifetime's quota of words on this post.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
