Given MFC have so many players injured and so many VFL potentials for Casey out of contract and with uncertain futures, I cant see many MFC listed players being made available for Casey in the finals. This been consistent with past years practice.

Agree Rhino, which will be a big shame. Since the agreement we have made the finals each year to exit in straight sets, wouldn't it be great for the club to supply all available players and have a real crack at winning the flag. Saying that, there wouldn't be to many players that played on Saturday that would be eligible, Spencer, Strauss, Jetta, Couch come to mind. From memory wasn't that the start of an era for Geelong, winning the VFL flag in the early mid 2000's with a heap of young developing players.

Lets hope he dosn't

Why? So we can take him in the second round? What if GWS/GC force us to use a first round pick anyway? Then we've wasted valuable chances to give him good experience against mature players in a high pressure scenario (and playing with some of his future teammates).

I highly doubt 2-3 games for Casey would be considered 'valuable' chances to give him experience when he is about to embark on a 13 year career.

And based on what he has dished so far would any team want to take him with a pick 1 and 2. If they bid on him and waste there pick then it ll be better that he has less experience anyway as we will be enjoying the brand new Jimmy Toumpas or Lachie Whitfield that we'll draft instead.

Have a list of players who should be eligable to play back at home. Will post it later tonight after I get back from work.

We are talking VFL finals here. Finals. He was born to play finals...

Not until his safely netted for 2nd round draft pick he aint.

Why do we always have to be so clever at the MFC

Do we really think that if we do not play him any more this year it will make any difference to how other teams view him.

This is fairly simple the kid is capable of playing well at Casey during their finals matches.

Play him every game helps.

Please everyone knows he is a goer just get on with it.

A couple of weeks ago I heard Brett Lovett Say there were 17 MFC players eligible to play in the finals. Since then I believe the number has dropped to 13 with Cale Morton (?) and Ricky Petterd (both injured) and Liam Jurrah (interstate) and Kelvin Lawrence (left the club) off the list.

I will see if I can either get a list of the players available or work it out and post it in the next few days.

From what I've been keeping track of the Melbourne players available look to be.

Gysberts

Cook

Evans

Davis

Spencer

Tynan

Couch

Fitzpatrick

Sheahan &

Williams

On top of that you can throw in Viney and if Strauss were to play for Casey this weekend (final home & away match) he'd be available also.

Eleven players isn't too bad. Gysberts, Viney & Couch in the middle should give Casey first use of the ball with Spencer in the ruck with Fitzpatrick to give a chop out and resting up forward.

Certainly a flag chance touch wood.

I reckon Nev Jetta might be available based on the criteria. Then again, maybe not.

Don't reckon they would pick Cook in a million years.

I agree. Viney should play .I think GWS will go for Grundy as there first

Pick.Gold Coast will go for Whitfield , we will go for Wines or another midfielder and give up Round 4 for Martin,We will pick up Viney in our second pick.

Yes I seem to recall an article where Lovett is quoted as saying there will be a fair few MFC listed players available.... I do hope it happens this year.

Would dance many a jig if we got that result. Wines, Toumpas or O'Rourke would be quality additions at 3.

Read that Grundy had a good game for Sturt seniors, a few more from him could help the cards fall this way.

What to do with pick 13, then?

I checked my records and I think Tall Defence has it right. On the criteria set down by the VFL for eligibility, this is what would happen:-

Week 1 No limitations as the round co-incides with Round 23. Therefore any player not playing for Melbourne that weekend can play with the Scorpions.

Weeks 2 - 4 Eligible players are Lucas Cook, Tom Couch, Troy Davis, Michael Evans, Jack Fitzpatrick, Jordan Gysberts, Jai Sheahan, Jake Spencer, Josh Tynan and Leigh Williams.

James Strauss has played 4 games for Casey seniors and 2 with the Casey Development League side making a total of 6 games so he would have to play with Casey this weekend (unlikely).

Casey has applied for permission to enable Jack Viney to play (more likely).

Last year when the Club sent off many eliglble players to have operations Casey were furious to say the least that they had been left with so few MFC players. I hope this year is different and I would hope that they are supported by MFC members in their quest for a flag. It certainly would be a great marketing tool for Melbourne in next years membership drive in the Casey area.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
