Malthouse has a history of saying one thing and doing another.

Case in point: he once had a crack at another coach over something that was said or done to said coach's players. "I would never ever do that to my players" said St Mick. Lo and behold, next day in the papers was an article from one of his former players ... Great Mick had done exactly that!

There are other examples.

But leaving that aside, why is Mick's opinion so important?

It makes no practical difference either way. We can't do a damn thing about it. The only opinions that have any relevance are those of our footy department. Let's let them do the job their way.

I don't think it's that.

There are some who are so addicted to whining that they don't pass up a single opportunity to throw a chilly blanket of negativity over anything in reach.

They can turn any topic -- even the robot spaceship on Mars -- into something negative about MFC. ("Imagine if our footy department was in charge of it ... it would have landed on Venus!")

They enjoy it.

A shocking, destructive habit, but there it is.

When I read the age this morning I thought great Brad got pushed and had this horrible image of Brad running around in GWS colours next year. But if a club that will win a flag in the next season or 2 speak to him then I can understand if he does play because his point of retiring was to leat a kid have a spot on the list.

But reading the herald sun article it sounds like it was brads decision and he will officially retire after round 23. Anyway I reckon he would be a good development coach at an AFL club.

If I see Green and McDonald running around in orange and grey next year I will be very disappointed. I hope that Green left on his own terms and was not shown the door.

I think McDonald has offically retired, no way Green will go to GWS, but I can see him running around in an Carlton, Essendon, Collingwood or even a Fremantle Jumper next year. Green would be great value as a third or Fourth forward in a team that should be playing finals next year

Didn't I read somewhere in the last couple of weeks that Green has done (or is doing) a coaching course? If so, I wonder if there's any chance the MFC might retain him at the club in some sort of role that could allow him to gain the practical experience that could see him eventually progressing to an assistant coaching position.

A couple of key points that I took out of his speech was the fact that yes, he has been meeting with Neeld on a weekly basis about his futue (among other things I'm sure). The other thing BG mentioned was about looking at what preseason 14(?) was going to look like.

I have come to the conclusion that BG was not at all pushed, but was made aware of this preseasons expectations of ALL players who "want to buy in", and considering Brad's circumstances (age, confidence in his body, etc), he decided that preseason 2012/13 was something that he wasn't willing to put his body through, just to get one more year of playing footy.

Ability wise he would be more than capable of playing games next year, but it's the journey between day 1 of preseason and Round 1 of season 2013 that probably didn't look appealing.

Could be wrong, but I beleive it would make a lot of sense if Brad felt this way.

Usually retired players coach at a different club to get experience in another...wouldn't mind this so long as he doesn't play in another jumper! If he does we will know is that he didn't go willingly

Heard today in an operating theatre (often a great source for footy news and gossip) that Brad did not retire on his own terms. Very disappointed if that is the case.
