Cloke and Collingwood - to part or not to part?

i agree, when our delivery inside the forward 50 is half decent even Garland and Rivers look like forwards with a bit of chop.

I'd pass on Cloke for that sort of money, but if he is the best player that has shown any interest in becoming a demon then the club should do their best to get him.

If we get him it would mean we have potentially scored 2 KPF and lost just a number #12 draft pick.

I think the fact that the Dees need to give up nothing to Collingwood for him is what's raising his value.

Well Said.

We are crazy not to go after him. paying cloke 5mil over 5 years is nothing for us...We could easily shed 3-4 players on 250k per season to cover the cloke deal.

As I've observed earlier today:

There's no way I want Cloke for this much money.

You could have a full-forward line of Lockett, Coleman and Fanning, and they'd struggle to kick 15 goals with our 3rd-world midfield.

We need midfielders. We need them now. Our forwardline hasn't REALLY been a problem, but the pox delivery inside 50 has been.

Yep think of the four players on $250k you would like to do without for 5 year. We have used 34 players this year. Ridiculous post. It was 3 yrs ago we were $5m in debt, The club can't go to that well again.

I would rather a Cloke over a Petterd/Bate/Magner/Dunn combo anyday.

You need to understand that the reason his coin sounds so high is because WE PAY NOTHING TO COLLINGWOOD.

If we were trading with collingwood there is no way Cloke's coin would be so high.

The purpose of an AFL Club is to win premerships. Having debt is just apart of running a business. Unless your Apple and have cash to burn.

Going into debt to buy a star player is a big risk. Sometimes you gotta spend money to make money. Getting Cloke would be huge for the club.

I'd be happy with this. It gives us a real structure and makes our recruiting so much easier. Having all of our big men in place means that we can focus on runners, which come on more quickly.

Having Cloke and Clark in tandem for the rest of the decade makes us ultra dangerous. One of the reasons for the two key forwards is to get the ball inside 50. One pushes up to the footy whole the other pushes back to goal.

We have been hearing the club constantly talking about prepaying contacts to create free agency room. Think about the $5m as being paid in the last few years, rather than in the next few.

That means that we could get him, effectively, for free through FA.

I would pass on Cloke because of the money. Just give Buddy 1.5mill a season for 5 years! Joke Joke!

I would prefer we draft a Tim Smith (Casey) & trade for Daniel Archer (STK).

The timing of the payment is worth considering...the way we're going we'll have plenty of spare Cap over the next 2 years in particular.

We have 4 high draft picks to use to try and mend the midfield issue, plus the rest of our list will be settled into the elite training load by next season. Should be able to put together a decent midfield considering those 2 factors (fitness and 4-5 new kids to choose from). The guys we draft will be on rookie wages, which should give us plenty of scope to front-load a contract to a big name player if we can land one.

Effectively we could get Cloke without really impacting the rest of our list, as he may be paid with spare salary cap space that wouldn't otherwise be used.

Having said all that, I think it's unlikely we'll land him, the Pies or the Blues will likely end up with him under some sort of dodgy arrangement.

Delivery to a forward line is usually much better when there are multiple targets inside that actually know what they're doing. In a way, Cloke would help our midfield more than any individual midfielder would. What we need is four really good midfielders. Failing that, I think Cloke is a damn good option, especially since we won't have to trade to get him.

IF if this report is correct I am extremely supportive of us getting Cloke over here. No doubt about it!

Re mid field we could and will snare Boak with one of our early picks plus Viney with another early pick. Midfield problem solved IMV

So lets get this straight, others please correct me if incorrect!

1 Cloke comes to us for a truckload of money and no loss of picks!

2 Boak comes to us for our priority pick ( Scully)

3 Viney comes to us for maybe another early first round pick but if possible the second rounder!

If this is right

I reckon WIN WIN WIN~!!!

What about the midfield?

Won't somebody please think of the midfield!!!

So with the spare million who do you suggest we throw it at?

oh wait, there are no free agent mid fielders worth even half of that coin!

IF Cloke were to get to the Blue$, then maybe we could nab Waite on a 2 Yr deal, to support Clarke, & Cook coming through. Or we could take Lachie Henderson off them, to help they're payments.

A bit unpalatable handing them a gun CHF, but hey, they'd be In for a 'Penny & a Pound'.

Would Visy have enough bags for him & Ju$$ ?

Thats not a win, both Cloke and Boak would seriously stretch our cap and our ability to pay future young stars.

We already have a lot out of contract, how about we concerntrate on signing those up.

Travis Cloke is seriously overrated, he simply isnt that good.

How many goals has he kicked this year getting supplied by the best midfield in the comp.

He wont have Pendelbury, Swan, Beams and Sidebottom feeding it down his throat if he came to us,

Nathan Jones is a great midfielder - but not half as good by foot as Pendles, Steele or Beams.

Mitch Clark dominates our forward line on the limited opportunities he has, I wouldnt be against adding Boak

to our midfield to increase more supply into Clark - who has been twice the foward Cloke has this year.

Which part of front-loading contracts don't you get? by the time some of our players are finally worth more, most of Clokes contract would probably already be paid off.

Whatever happens with Cloke, I love one simple fact.

And that is this - we clearly have loads of cap, and picks, and the intent to get serious in hunting the quality players in the league.

In short, we are becoming the hunters. Our offers now scare some of the big clubs. This is a lot different to previous seasons where we're either not taken seriously when big names are discussed or we have to pay 'overs' simply to retain our own senior players.

Despite our ladder position, I'm actually enjoying this aspect of the year.

Chase Brett Deledio, & Brad Sewell, with a fist full of dollars, & Front Load. Chappy backup...

Is Deledio free agent?

If so then yes, throw at least 800k a season at him.

Brad Sewell would just be another run of the mid-fielder for us. Throwing that type of coin at him wouldn't change a thing.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
