Changes v Fremantle

I know it's early, with Casey not even playing for another hour, but I really need to move on from yesterday, and I reckon it would be helpful to a few others as well...

Geez it's a bit of a "anything can happen but probably won't..." week for mine, I keep expecting big changes, even some risk taking with our selection seeing Neeld has been talking of "experimenting" for the last month, but alas it has not come to pass (much to the befuddlement of many).

May change after 4.45pm today, but at the moment the changes I would LIKE to see (as opposed to what I expect, which is what I usually post) are:

IN:

Couch, Cook, Davis, Gysberts, Petterd, Jamar (pending), Green (pending)

OUT:

Bail, Magner (rest), Dunn, Spencer (pending Jamar inj), Bennell, Bate (pending Green inj), Watts (have a feeling he won't pull up from a hammy)

Only reason I have Moloney still in is because I have Magner coming out for a rest as it's starting to look like he's being run into the ground.

Now, having said all that, and going on past selections, this is what I expect from the match committee:

IN:

Jamar

OUT:

Spencer

Lame.... Anyways, have a crack guys and girls.

Best guess ...

In: Couch Cook Jamar Gysberts

Out: Bail Magner Spencer Bate

I reckon Dunn may come out before Bate this week, especially seeing Lynden got played out of position all game and Neeld seems to be giving Bate a big chance lately.

RR how could you possibly leave in Bennell? another 8 kick game and twice he short stepped a collison / tackles in the first six minutes of the game. No sure Tapscott should be in either.

You're right OD. Add Bennell to the outs, if anything for the near attack he gives you every time you see his name on the team sheet!

Maybe bring the kid Davis in for him. What have we got to lose except of course another game of footy?

You know what's interesting too? Remember the good old days when we used to pick players from our depth that would suit the matchups/strategy against whoever we were playing that week?..... Good times....

Now it's like we know we're going to lose, so who can come in for all of the under performing players?!

I would suspect/ hope Strauss gets a full game and comes in for Bennell.

Thanks Jamie, but in my opinion you're done at the MFC.

Would love good games also out of Jetta, Gysberts and Petterd to put pressure on selection this week. This guys should be best 22 and I'm hoping some form for them will bring about some back season wins for the Dees.

OUT: MFC supporters

Based on yesterdays turn out at a home game at the 'G in perfect weather you'd have to think we are looking at 1500 to turn up for us at Etiihad. We play terribly there, and we are up against a Ross Lyon side that is deliberately learning to play ugly footy. Sounds like a recipe for record low numbers.

If I decide to go to the crapper that is Etihad it's because Cook/Gysberts/Stauss/Davis/Petterd/Couch/Tynan/Jetta. Come in. Doesn't have to be all of them but I'd rather watch what could be the future for us then watch blokes who should be delisted play. It's this time of year every year that I really start to get very bored of the same old same old. So when we lose from now on I would like to walk out and talk about how good some of our players will become. Just give me something MFC cause all i'm getting now is a massive urge for scotch after every game.

My thoughts as well.

In with the new and out with the old!

And how is Scotch going in the Amo's?

In: Jamar, Green, Gysbert, Couch, Davey

Out: Spencer, Bate, Magner, Bail, Bennell

Brilliant, except Neeld loves Bail.

So I'd say Bail stays and Davey doesn't get a recall.

In some delusional state, I actually think we are a good chance to win this week. Shame it's at Etihad.

Not bad though would leave Bater in. Very Interested in Williams and how he's coming along after the illness. Did Cook kick Ass today V Port or is it a token gesture?

IMO Neeld will stay conservative and not rock the boat too much.

If Jamar is right then he will come in for Spencer. As I posted previously Neeld likes Bennell and wants to develop him as a fast leading forward. IMO> a la Eddie B. Fair call. Thought the same a few weeks back.

Future or the Past?? Couch or Green? If Green is to play on next season then he get the call up. Given this is not likely IMO Couch will play his first game.

Outs: Spencer (Will be back), Magner.

Ins: Couch, Jamar.

On what I saw at Casey today

Inns: Green, Fitpatrick, Couch, Gysberts ( these four were outsatnding today!

Outs: Spencer, Bennell, Magner, Moloney/ Bail/ Dunne/ take your pick!

AND if Jamar fit??

Cheers for the great efforts with an "on site" supporters view.

Only seen Fitz once. Maybe was a bad game. He didn't look up to it. Do you think he could be NBT. How about Cook. Never seen him play either. Not kicking goals but a lot are calling for him to play? What ya reckon on today's effort. Last one ...Leigh Williams?

In: Green, Couch, Gysberts (Jamar if fit)

Out : Dunn (susp), Magnar, Nicholson (injured shoulder, if not dropped)

Green to take Rivers spot up forward, Riv to go to back line where he is best (Dunn to never play key back again please)

Magnar looking more like a good VFL player by the week - kicking not up to standard.

Nicho dropped - as you can't play Nicho and Bail in the same side - both too big a liability with the ball in hand. Bail can find the ball and works hard both ways so should be given a run of games to truely test foot skills at the top level.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
