THE CONTRACTS THREAD [with updates]

Contracts: Strauss, Blease, Moloney, Rivers, Jurrah, Dunn, Cook

Upgrades: Nicholson, Magner

Delists: Bate, Bennell, Petterd, MacDonald, Spencer, Bail, Davis, Jetta, Fitzpatrick, Green (ret.)

I'll be surprised if Macdonald and Spencer are delisted - I think they have the approach Neeld appreciates. Jetta, Bail and Davis too.

Less certain about Moloney, Blease and Cook. Jurrah's a tough one to call too.

It's going to be fascinating to see who the FD rate.

Blease?

Just listen to Neeld's last couple of press conferences. He has a good opinion of Blease.

Nicholson must be upgraded.

Magner does not have to be; the club can, if it wants.

Evans is an interstate rookie, and can therefore get a third rookie year, I think, need confirnation of that.

Lawrence, I have no idea but would be surprised if he was with un next year.

I could see Spencer being traded, Moloney as well.

If Dogs still want Bate, he will go there.

I think Jetta will go and probably MacDonald too.

Jurrah is safe if trial goes ok. I think that Davis is safe as is Fitzpatrick.

Bail's disposal worries me and if it worries Neeld he is gone and with Petterd and maybe Spencer could be a good trade back to their home state Queensland, home of the GC Suns or a bit less North to GWS..

If Bartram's medical procedure fails he is a retirement and Bennell is shaky.

I think Dunn is versatile and will stay another year.

Green may get another year due to his form and the Junior episode.

I would delist rookies Magner, Couch and Lawrence.

There are other threads but I think they are messy and I can't be stuffed going looking for something NQR.

Here are the contracts for people who think a contracted Martin will be gone or for those fans worried about what Healy said to McLardy last night about youngsters not re-signing.

2015

Clark, Trengove, Jamar, Garland, McKenzie, Howe, Jones

2014

Frawley, Tapscott, McDonald

2013

Watts, Sylvia, Davey, Gysberts, Morton, Grimes, Taggert, Gawn, Martin, Tynan, Fitzpatrick

2012

OOC (in number order)

Batram, Bennell, Petterd, Blease, Strauss, Cook, Jurrah, MacDonald, Jetta, Davis, Spencer, Bail, Sellar

Rookies (upgrade or delist)

Nicholson ®, Evans ®, Lawrence ®

Rookies (1 year option)

Couch, Magner, Sheahan, Williams

RFA

Moloney

UFA

Green, Rivers, Bate, and Dunn.

Ammended after getting a better 'word' on where Sellar and Fitz are in their contracts. Fitz has a year left, and Sellar got a one-year contract.

I have switched them around.

This one sticks out.

Why is that?

Not even worthy of another year on the RL?

Fair question.

I don't think Couch is up to AFL standard and Casey don't think Lawrence is up to Casey 1sts standard.

Magner is the more difficult one. Personally I see him as short and slow, sort of like another player who won our B & F last year. Jones has been our standout mid this year. Beamer has had a poor year. Gysberts is taller but not quick. We need class and speed in our midfield and I don't see that in Magner. If Beamer is traded I could see him getting another year but if Beamer stays I think he is just more of what we already have. Even the mustache has played as a tagger and he is quicker, taller, a better kick and has more strings to his bow than Magner. I think Magner has exceeded expectations but we need better in our midfield and his rookie spot may be needed to keep looking.

I think Neeld will really want to turn over players and the rookie list is a less dangerous way of doing it. That is how I see it.

Joel Macdonald has played a lot of senior football this year for someone about to be delisted.

Unsure that "disposal worries" are at the top of Neeld's worries - they might be, but I get the impression that intensity at the contest and engine may rank higher.

I've got my own ideas on who I'd delist but they're just that. I expect Mark Neeld has different ideas.

He's played less games than ol' Lynden who is an absolute monty to be delisted.

You would think Dunn is a gone. Yeah he showed a bit against children on the weekend but playing down back against a good footballer is a different story for Dunn. I'd prefer J Mac over Dunn in the back line.

A lot of players out I would have them ranked on priority as below

Jones, Howe, Blease, Rivers, McKenzie, Jamar, Jurrah, Strauss, McDonald, Garland, Batram, Bail, Moloney, Petterd, Davis, Jetta,Nicholson, Bate, Dunn, Bennell, Cook, Fitzpatrick, MacDonald, Spencer, Green

On the Rookies keep Couch, Magner on the rookie list and I think you can nominate 1 or 2 that has been on your rookie list for 2 years that can remain, for me Evans and Lawrance would be good to keep as Rookies

Dr. Drake

Leigh Williams will be a gun next year. I say let Couch and Magner go, keep Williams

The Tigers were beaten by the "children" a couple of weeks back.

Blease is a gun!! Like Strauss severe leg breaks take time. He's getting there.

Brad Green is still our best forward option (outside of Clark). He will stay in a development role not dissimilar to the one Junior played at GWS.

These two set the standard at training. Won't be let go any time soon.

Really? I thought the likes of Jones, Macdonald, Trengove, Clark and Grimes would be doing that.

How wrong I was.

Do you think Neeld would use a press conference to condemn someone one? You are easily pleased.

He's played fewer games than ol' Lynden who is an absolute monty to be delisted.

I am no fan of MacDonald or Dunn. There both delists in my book. However I have sneaking suspension that Dunn will get a low $ 1-2 yr contract.

Joel Macdonald has played a lot of senior football this year for someone about to be delisted.

He thought that when he was at Brisbane too.

Whose monty? Wanna bet your house on it? I wouldn't.

Ol' Lynden and ol' Joel have been consistently playing senior football this year and Neeld is on record wanting a more mature list.

I don't know what's going to happen, it's not easy to predict,

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
