If Freo have likes Pavlich, Sandilands, Ballantyne, Fyfe on big coin plus offer Cloke a million dollars a year, surely we would have money in reserve for another 2 top players on our list.

I believe Clark, Davey and Moloney would be the highest paid at our club and they would problably wouldn't be on as much as Pavlich and Sandilands?

If Patrick Dangerfield who i believe is a victorian boy, is thinking bout coming home, Cam Schwab/ Mclardy should go full noise and offer him a big contract to play with us next year. The kid is 21/22 gun and plays exactly how Mark Neeld wants. Plus i believe we (assuming we finish bottom 4 this year) will end up with the possibilty of gaining a top midfielder through the draft aswell as Jack Viney.

Imagine a midfield of Jones, Viney, Trengove, Dangerfield, Sylvia, Bate and Moloney. Not bad at all.

.... not to mention that he appears to be pretty close to Neil Craig, or certainly seemed to be indicating at points prior to Craig leaving last year that he would consider leaving as well if they pushed Craig out.

Not a bad thought there Deefella..I would have a crack but I dont know if he's worth paying Star type salary for.

The media reported a while ago we would be in a fairly strong position come free agent time, so touch wood we do have the free $$ available as reported.

A long term contract as you say would be maybe worthy for a Dangerfield type because he certainly plays well for the Crows most days.

But maybe we already have one or two potential top midfielders in the wings ala Magner, who will be an inhouse ready made and we can spend it on another big forward who boots regular bags!

Gys another one of him!

Travis Boak is out of contract at the end of the season I beleive. Ex-Victorian, would see him coming home if the $ were ok. Not saying we throw everything at him, but he is quite classy.

I think the reason they can squeeze in Cloke is the fact that Pav is Veteran listed, only half of his salary will count to the cap. Also, Sandi is going to be available for veteran's list next year which frees up more space.

Although, I know we have a fair bit of space (using 92.5% or something like that?), and don't disagree that we should go after a classy midfielder with some experience.

Boak is ok but we need some real good top quality mids. Blease and Gysberts have potential but they need to get there priorities and heads right. They live in my area and people i know who know them well say they are too busy partying and drinking out at our local pubs a bit and dont take training as serious as they should.

If i remeber correctly, they week after Trengove slung Dangerfield he came out and kicked 6 goals. A goal kicking midfielder is high on the priority list.

I think that is getting ahead of ourselves.

We need star midfielders, whether they kick goals is neither-here-nor-there...

I hope we do go after him.

ala Magner

No person could criticize Magner's efforts, and he's very handy. But by no means a gun

If we could get a hold of a Dangerfield and another couple good mids in the draft people may disagree but i think we will start clicking. Our midfield is missing something.

Incorrect, the Vets List rule changes and now only $100k of vets salary will go off the Cap (as opposed to the 50% it used to be)

Freo may be able to afford Cloke now, but when their young guns develop, where's their money going to come from

We have cash. lots of cash. I rekon there will be some more mid season signings which will include upgrading this seasons player payments. this will leave more money for future years. let alone all.the big front loaded contracts we have.

We will have enough to offer a big contract as well as look after current players

Dangerfield has been mooted before, but he looks very happily ensconced in the Crows' revival as we speak.

He might have been close to Neil Craig, but he's found the new coach invigorating and motivating - he's playing with freedom and audacity.

I'd think about Andrew Moore from Port who was taken @ #9 and has had a few issues with settling in and injury. Eastern ranges boy who wants to come home.

Further, throw some coin at Josh Caddy - he would be a great pick up!!

Personally, I wouldn't rate Dangerfield higher than Boak. I'm not saying Boak is ahead of him, but I just don't see why we need all this juice flying around for Patty.

My concern with all of this post is the idea of throwing coin at potential stars. I'd rather throw double the amount of coin at a current star, especially one that has a good 6-8 years of elite level performance in him.

Boak re-signed with Port last year long term...

We don't need another big forward!! J.Brown wouldn't kick goals with delivery our forward line gets, we need mids only.

Dangerfield is the perfect option.

He fits the age bracket, is a game changer, a leader, is tough, kicks goals, tackles, everything. Perfect fit.

I think it's quite obvious that one of the driving forces behind Melbourne's new "Business Community" is having external sources to help get big names to the club.

If Jamar leaves, that would give us the room to potentially get one superstar, one established, older player.

Understand b2803, but whilst these blokes show potential, they also have the 'x' factor about them, the toughness, the hardness we need. Both boys were lauded at their respective development teams for their single minded goal to get the ball....something, I feel, cannot always be coached.

Are we not about to take Jack Viney with our 1st pick, because he fits this criteria?

Mining interests outside the cap ie Judd-Vi$y maybe?

He's got the Weapons Tappy, burst away speed, body strength, good hands, tall, young & still starting to develop.

#Edit: Just not sure about his endurance. But I reckon he'd play a mean game, playing a similar role to Silvia, playing forward or Wing, & switching through the mids rotations.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
