What is it with clubs wanting our players.

It's because we have talent on our list, we just never develop it properly. The other reason we get targeted is because we're a weak club both on and off the field. We're an easy target. Who would want to play with us when they get offered more money and a better culture elsewhere?

I think it's this attitude perpetuated by "supporters" that is really the weakest of all.

So many have a pessimistic defeatist attitude.

It makes me sick.

Have some %ing backbone.

I'd be upset if he left, but he is getting on and we have an abundance of other big men (Gawn, Spencer, Fitzpatrick, Martin, Clark).

I think he'll stay though. Doesn't seem like the type that would want to screw around a club that put up with a lot of crappy seasons from him and kept him around.

Why would he want to go there and play with a skunk like Voldemort?

Why would a bloke like James McDonald?

MONEY.

A bloke in the twilight of his career is thinking about retirement and putting together a decent superannuation fund.

If that is the case can someone offer us a pick 4 for Morton, a pick 12 for Cook and pick 13 and 14 for Dunn and Bate, that would really help us to even up.

That would be nice.................

Russian will stay. We stuck with him when he was "Donuts" and he actually has some loyalty to the club unlike HWFUA. Will be nice if we can wrap up the new contract soon for some positive press though, I agree with that statement.

I am glad some of you wouldn't be so concerned if Jamar left, cause I sure would be. And don't say we have Gawn, Spencer etc.

Gawn - has the tools but is injury prone, and has a long way to go. Even if he does make the grade, he is still a few years off replacing a ruckman like Jamar

Spencer - not up to it and injury prone

Martin - not a first ruckman, better suited to a utility type role ala Leigh Brown

Sellar - yet to play a single game for us and not recruited as a ruck regardless

Clark - recruited as a forward and would never be a first ruckman

I am not saying Gawn and co are not going to make it, I am just saying Jamar is not going to be as easy to replace as some on here think.

I'd start to worry if Eddie starts talking about it. Even if he is not on the money he has a way of sending Demonlanders into frenzy mode.

I'd let GWS have Jamar if the AFL compensated us well enough, although given how much we've been screwed over by the AFL recently, I'd suggest they'd probably offer us pick 87 for Jamar or something ridiculous.

I find the AFL's concept of giving extra draft picks for losing a player to be a little weird also. It seems somewhere in the middle of the unrestricted free agency where a player could go anywhere once his contract is up or allowing players do leave but making the other side pay compensation (either cash or draft picks).

What is it with clubs wanting our players. Richmond has 2 rejects, Hawthorn have two playing at Box hill, Carlton has 1 playing VFL, Collingwood have 1 at VFL, GWS now has 2 going for 3, Gold Coast has 1 and we offloaded another to Brisbane that is now finished, don't these clubs know we have sucked for the past 5 years.

Maybe they believe it is our "development" which is why these players are no good rather than the fact that they are just no good.

It will be interesting free agency, I think most will stay with their adopted clubs, simply by looking at the retention of interstate players who stay despite big offers to 'come home". The longer a player has been at a club, assuming its the right environment the less likely he'll leave. Bit like any career lots of people take a job with less money if everything else ticks the box. As being paid lots and have a crap time isn't fun.

I think it's the opposite. Our supporters are loyal and fierce. We've wiped off over five million dollars in debt, and we've stuck by the club through hard times. We have eternal hope.

It's the outside perception unfortunately that more reflects the facts. The fact is that we are a weak club on and off the field, so we get targeted. We haven't won a flag since 1964, and we don't look like winning one soon. I hope to god we come good, I need to see a flag in my lifetime! But currently, we have a long way to go in every facet of the club, and that's why we find ourselves in this lowly position.

Martin has played his best footy when Jamar has been out, and Clark was almost AA as a first ruck. Yes, Jamar would be a big loss for us, but we do have players who could fill his role. He will be getting on by the time we'll (HOPEFULLY) be challenging anyway, and I don't think he is close to the player he was when he was AA.

Doesn't seem that their development has helped much either with these players. Most are still playing in the VFL or headed that way.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
