Mystery injury of the week

It's started all over again. Last year we saw the interesting phenomenon of players not named on the club's official injury list early in the week missing out on team selection.

This week's nominees (i.e not on injury list & not playing) are:-

• Ricky Petterd (missed training yesterday)

• Dan Nicholson (recently seen in a moonboot at Casey Fields - "just as a precaution")

• Colin Sylvia - suspended and injured - says he'll be back in round 3. No mystery there!

• Leigh Williams - someone at the club forgot to put him on the injured list but we know he's injured.

This week's Mystery injury of the Week goes to Ricky Petterd.

Lucas Cook (groin) - 2 weeks

Michael Evans (back) - indefinite

Max Gawn (knee) - season

Neville Jetta (ankle) - indefinite

Liam Jurrah (wrist) - 4 weeks

Jake Spencer (knee) - 6-8 weeks

James Strauss (concussion) - 1 week

Rory Taggert (back) - indefinite

I was at training yesterday for an hour or so and Ricky P was there. However he was the only player in compression pants so that would tend to support the theory that he's injured. He seemed to be moving pretty well so I don't think it was anything serious. I suspect they're just playing it safe given that we're down a forward with Jurrah being out at the moment.

I worded that poorly. Ricky P can be a game changer. He is not vital to the structure of the team and the team is not drastically altered when he's out. He's a loss though, and would be one of the first I'd pick every week.

Spencer, Gawn, Taggert, Evans, Cook, Williams, Nicholson and Jetta wouldn't be playing even if they were 100% fit.

That's a relevant injury list of:

- Strauss and Petterd will be playing next week at some level (AFL or VFL) so very very short term injury

- Sylvia and Jurrah only key players out. Sylvia back round 4. Jurrah mid-season hopefully?

Williams trained with the main squad whilst Nicho did some work.Then did specialist running to to test injury. I spoke to him after and he said he was OK.

He's perfect for Neeld's plan - his forward pressure, he's a great contested mark esp for his size and a tackling machine when the bodies right..

He usually dobs a couple goals a game and has a few bags of 4 gls as well.. has a hand in many other goals too..

Get the body right now, bring him in rd.3 after the west coke game fully fit & watch him own it.

All things equal - the pett is our 3rd or 4th most important forward imo.. 

Clark, watts, the pett / davey-the nucleus.. jurrah-lets wait.. green and howe i expect to continue to push into the midfield, as they do.. martin / russian are resting rucks.. the others resting mids..

Sounds like bs to me. The players had a break last week which means that a player with "general soreness" misses two weeks. I suppose the next thing they'll say is that he has to play two games at Casey before being considered for selection?

There was that game against Richmond (I think), when he broke a record for the most tackles inside the forward 50.

I probably wouldn't say he's crucial to our set-up, but he's definitely a dangerous player. I'm especially looking forward to see him play under Neeld.
