Juice Newton joins Norwood

I am a diehard Melbourne & Norwood fan living in SA. You can imagine my shock, surprise & partial dismay when I read the following e-mail from the Norwood FC about our new recruits, including Michael Newton:

Michael is a Key Forward from the Melbourne FC who can pinch hit in Ruck if required. Michael has good mobility, is a good kick & a very strong overhead mark who will add plenty of strength to our team.

I understand that many Demonlanders are relieved that Juice is no longer taking a spot on the MFC list after being taken in the 2004 draft. Well, I've still got him! At least, Juice won't need to learn a new club song! Nathan Bassett is the Norwood coach and has had great success with mature age players (eg. Puopolo, Duigan). SANFL may be exactly the place for Juice to shine. I can only wait & see.

He rocked at VFL level, so i think the Redlegs will do fine with juice.

I can't see why you'd be dismayed. As others have said, Newton should do well for Norwood; he was a good VFL player for the last couple of years.

This really must be the quiet time of the year but he should be good for Norwood. I wonder if Aussie will join him. He was at Norwood when rookied.

The SANFL Redlegs could be in for a good season. They've also recruited the delisted Carlton rookie Jaryd Cachia and Port Melbourne Premiership player Nathan Batsanis.

Good pick up IMO. He could literally rip a VFL game apart - just couldn't ever consistently bring that form to the AFL.
