Thanks to Sam the Stats Man for providing the history of ... SELECTION 36

Melbourne will be hoping that it can emulate Hawthorn's number 36 effort from the draft of 10 years ago when the Hawks secured Sam Mitchell who went on to captain the club and is closing in on 200 AFL games.

The pick has produced a few handy players like Jonathan Hay (157 AFL games) and Danny Jacobs (126). Luke McGuane and Alwyn Davey have had their moments but most of the # 36 picks have been more miss than hit.

The Demons' two 36ers have been disappointing. Jason Dullard (1991) failed to gain AFL selection while father/son pick Chris Johnson (2003) struggled for a regular place and left for Carlton in strained circumstances after just 31 games with the club.

They are surprisingly thin pickings for early in the third round.

More miss than hit

Certainly, but over the last 10 years, it starts to be more positive. I would imagine because the art of drafting has become a bit more of a science, with more research and information available to the clubs on the draftees. Clubs have also started to put a lot more resources into specialist draft watchers. Like Phil Scully.

Fingers crossed.

Wow, I guess we can't do much worse than past drafts. Moral of the story: don't sweat on the later picks.

Due for a ripper--maybe Waylen Manson?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
