Stephen Powell against West Coast at Suby, can't remember the year....game in the balance, dying minutes (2000?) gathers the ball and tries to pump it long. his kick literally went SIDEWAYS into an unsuspecting Woey (who nearly died of shock) 2 bounces and the ensuing goal was the sealer.

I still smile thinking about Powelly's skills......

As I recall, and please correct me if needed, Eishold's inexplicable miss of the match sealer for a behind resulted in the kick-in that went in one or two uncontested possessions to Buckenara who marked out of range. The siren went, Jimma infringed, 15 metre penalty, goal......season over.

Also from distant memory, there was some discussion as to whether the 15m penalty was correct: at the time I don't think crossing the mark automatically resulted in a 15, but time wasting did. Now as the siren had sounded, how could this have wasted time?

Still, had Esihold not missed, this would be a distant incidental nothing.

Free-ed. Pushed in the back right on 50. Would've had to kick it 65m to clear the pack with a tired leg.

As I recall he was shaping up to kick a barrel when Stynes did the unthinkable.

IMHO, the events from "that day on 1987" belong to a category of horror and revulsion equal to Salo or Human Centipede (1 and 2): not to be viewed.

Actually, having been at VFL Park on that day, I'd contend it's more not to be viewed AGAIN. There is no joy at all in remembering that game. None.

Loosely on topic, (excepting "that day on 1987"); our first match at Carrara (umm, in 1987). Shocker. Playing the Bears, we were barely playing. Very ordinary match, but we lead all day. Bears closed in our lead in fast fading light. Deep late in the match leading by a point we worked it hard from the backline running it along the wing. Rod Grinter(?) centres the footy, turn over, David Banfield swoops takes it forward. Dodgy Weezey Skase's Qintex Bears goal and hang on to win in the dark.

OK, not the worst "most important" kick, but a shocker and against very ordinary opposition.

Call me a masochist but I just watched the last 5 minutes of the '87 prelim again. I keep hoping for a different result but it's always the same ... Campbell misses, Yeats misses and then Eishold writes his name into infamy.

I kind of feel sorry for Eishold. He's copped the heat all these years but let me tell you Graeme Yeats is not far behind. Couple of minutes to go and Ricky Jackson burns off his opponent wide on the half forward flank at VFL Park, bounces twice, sweeps a handball to a teammate on 50 ... the crowd roar becomes deafening as the ball is then relayed to Yeats .... who streams into pretty much an open goal and .... inexplicably sprays it wide from 25 metres out on the run.

He kicks that goal 49 times out of 50 at training.

Both teams get 2 points and Melb miss finals.

Filth supporters are cheering at vic park as if they had just won a final.

Back on topic - the very same H.Mann, having done the above in the penultimate H&A game, takes a mark about 15 metres out straight in front late in last quarter of GF to put us in front, only to fluff it with a shocker. Fortunately, soon after, an even worse field kick from Brian Dixon fell into the arms of Neil.....and we drift off topic again.

... spilled (or palmed?) by Barassi with crompton getting a nice bounce. the most amazing thing was the kickout by the fullback (which Dixon marked).
