Worst important kick ever.

Yeats, Campbell and Eishold made monumental blunders in the last quarter.

I still remember Robbie Flower waving his arms around in anger towards Tony Campbell as he sprayed that shot, Flower was in the goal square on his own.

'Arm' wasn't it, because the other one had been re-arranged by dipper.

Jack Watts' misses in Freo last year were bad misses for both Club and player. In a pretty good year (compared to this one and seasons before it), a win in Perth would've been a big thing.

But would you be watching or have your hands in front of your eyes?

I would have neither seen or heard it as I would no doubt have had a heart attack and died right there.

No finals or flags for me

please let be anyone else!!!

Hassa Mann's shocker post-Gabbo run in the 1964 Grand Final (from directly in front) which could have put us back in front with a few minutes remaining. We finally strung some 'beautiful football' together courtesy Barassi and Bourke only to see Hassa miss. Fortunately Neil Crompton stepped into history shortly after.

On the flip side;

1964 second last H&A round. Melbourne vs Hawthorn. Hassa Mann kicks a freakish goal in the dying moment to win the game for Melbourne. A week later, at the end of the H&A seaosn, Melbourne finished top, and Hawthorn finished 5th (missed the final 4). If Hassa Mann's kick had missed, Melbourne would have finished 5th, missing the finals and Hawthorn would have finished on top.

WJ is right. The Bucky kick was the worst. I still cant watch any of that game.

Was the last time I went to the Footy with my father.

Swore I would never go to Artic Park again.

One of the few things I have achieved as a Dees supporter.

I never graced it again.

Even now I think of that day ever time I drive past.

Remember clearly listening to that match on the radio, Dad said that is it son good sides win the close ones

The GF is in the bag, we then beat the Pies easily in the second semi and I thought how easy is this.

Never in my wildest dreams did I think we would go 47+ years without another one.

Ahh the joy of being a Dees supporter

I havent been back. Never wanted to go back. As I speed past it on the Monash, I still curse it.

Was a inaugural member when it first opened. Grew to really hate the place even before that dreaded day.

I was going to mention it but as Bush Demon says it was one arm waving but "hollywood" went for glory. Shocking kick.

You could see the whole disaster start to unravel like a ball of rubber string. Its starts off slowly then unwinds faster and faster. The last quarter was a disaster waiting to happen. Its the same feeling Blues supporters would have had when MFC ran over the top of them in the 2000 SF. You could see the momentum change ahead of the scoreboard.

Brian Wilson & Robbie Flower both had broken collar bones after that game, so i don't believe we had any show against Carlscum.

Not to forget that Garry Lyon and Alan Johnson were out injured as well.

In my memory Eishold wins hands down at least as far as Melbourne matches are concerned.

I remember the commentary so well "he just doest want to take this kick"!!

That would have given us a lead -- and poor Jimma's run across the mark would never have happened, or if it had, been irrelevant and long forgotten.

Still, nobody would have beaten Carlscum the following week, after that swelter at VFL Park.

That's the one - Tony Eishold! I think Northey fumed about it for weeks afterwards!

Yes but we would have taken the last round game against Footscray more seriously if this were the situation.

Its Simon Eishold and Tony Elshaug.

I dont think we would have got close to Carlton in 1987 after the PF punch out with Hawthorn.

Northey would have fumed over an Irishman crossing over the mark.

As I recall Northey gave Stynes a frightful bake in the change rooms after the game, which he subsequently apologized for some days or weeks later. I may be corrected on that but pretty sure that's what happened.

I agree with your memory Yoda

2000 GF, any one of Steven Febey's kick outs. Especially the 8 or so in the first quarter ever one of which was rebounded by the Dons. Aaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!!

Round 9 2007 vs Norf, so a bit of a nothing game in a nothing year, but anyway.

6 goals down at 3qt, managed to put ourselves up by three points with a minute remaining.

Trapper with the kick-in after a Norf behind. Kicks it out to the back flank and the ball bounces over the boundary line, Swallow swoops on the ball after the throw-in and kicks a lucky goal from outside 50.

IIRC, we lost our first nine games that year and had been getting gradually closer to a win up until this game. Typical Trapper brain fart.

Did Ben Holland ever take any important kicks? :P

Holland lining up for goal was a head-in-your-hands moment, even (especially?) when he was at the top of the goal square.

There is a fabulous photo of Northey glaring at a crestfallen Stynes in the rooms after the PF. Picture tells a 1000 words.

With due respect to Trapper there was no one standing goal side of Swallow when the throw in happened. I think that was Trappers error. He made a reasonable decision to go neutral to the boundary because there were no available targets for the kick out.

Its a minor point when we were literally flogged everywhere on the ground that day.

Carp kicking style. He had his good days and he had days where you would scream.

that he did. There is a famous photo to go with it.

That's where I was going as well. In particular the one that would have had us in front. :D

Dunn missed a critical shot as well late in that game.

Any of "Diamond" Jim Tilbrooks Kicks....They went a long way...but not in a direction he could control!!!

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

Who would have imagined, when the season kicked off early last month, that Melbourne would emerge from the opening six weeks with wins over both Queensland powerhouses? At the time, Gold Coast and Brisbane were the competition’s early pace-setters, the flavours of the month, and the prospect of the Demons toppling both within the course of a fortnight seemed remote. Yet here they are, banking those scalps alongside home victories over two traditional Victorian rivals and building a quietly impressive resume.
