Our compo pick in next years draft could well be a better option than 19 in this one. GC could be of the same mindset.

There is no doubt it is better. This year's draft has been badly diluted and next years is being called a super draft. We can offer about pick 9 or 13 in a super draft as opposed to Bombers 19 in this much weaker draft. We can also throw in Warnock if they are interested and maybe even Spencer with a pick back, as they need a ruckman and he is a Queenslander. Bombers are way behind us unless they find a better pick or add a star player. If we are the only clubs competing we are in with a real show.

Absolutely, I would think as well. Plus the flexibility it gives them.

Our 'End of 1st Rnd' Comp pick, plus add ons.

I should hope so. We need a midrange injection, we hold some aces, lets just do it

Also said.

Sammy, all quiet on Caddy today. Looks like Bombers and Dees in the box seat.

Very interesting.

Wish people would get our compo picks right when they talk.

We have a mid first round pick and a pick straight after our first selection.

NOT "end of 1st round".

It actually makes our picks MORE valuable...

And yes I believe Caddy would be a good choice if we could snare him with our mid first rounder and Warnock/Spencer...

But will that satisfy GC?

Get Caddy.

If we could land him with a compo pick and keep one up our sleeves for nxt year, this will be a massive win.

Caddy + first round pick for Scully. Excellent result.

Is that right? Well that is even better.

Then we have a way stronger hand than the bombers.

Perhaps a Moderator, could pin a post of the compensation picks we have, up on this board so we can all see & read them, to understand what exactly we have at our disposal.

looking at the tweeting from Essendon supporters going through #tradeweek, they seem pretty much resigned to the fact he won't be going to Windy Hill; hopefully that just means we need to offer up a reasonable bundle and not have to get involved in a bidding war.

The question is - Is Caddy more valuable than pick 9 next year?

I trust our recruiters on this one. If we are seriously looking at Caddy then he must be.

I think he would complement Moloney really well. He is a solidly built kid.

Its going to be an interesting day tommorow.

Caddy had a Navicular injury the same type of injury that almost ended Jimmy Hird's career and I think the same injury that Colin Garland had, that would be my only reservation. Apart from that if the foot's ok then I hope we go for it.

Pick 9 in a super draft!

Caddy was pick 9 and went "early" in a "weak" draft

Hard to say, i think we need someone who looks smoother imo

Trust me, our mid round compo pick will not be pick 9.

1 - because the teams outside the 8 are now 10 from next year. This puts the pick at 11.

2 - With GC, PA and BL all having PP this year, u can be sure that PA (doing a serious re-build) and GC will get a before 1st round PP next year. Our pick becomes 13.

3 - With next years draft being the "superdraft", i reckon many will use their CP's. GWS have 2 (AC & GC - from Cats) WB have 1, Cats have 1 all after their round 1 selection. 2 of these will probably be from teams finishing outside the 8 (thus before our mid round pick) in AC's and WB's CP. Putting our mid round pick at 15.

Pick 15 not 9. It really puts it into context. Plus we have our other CP as well. I'd offer GC the CP which we think will be of lower value in the draft (do we think we will make the 8?)

Caddy was pick 7, plus it ain't gonna be pick 9 for us. See above.

I don't know. Caddy looks really good. He was actually pick 7. And would have 2 years in the system by the time our future pick would come in. I wouldn't call him smooth, but he does play hard and smart. And he is built like a brick out house.

RobbieF - He played the last two games of the season. There is no way the Suns would have risked him in he wasn't quite right. Its definatley worth taking into consideration though. I would have preferred him to have had an extra 10-15 games under his belt. He certainly would have had it if he wasn't injured.

If we don't make a play for him it means we think our compensation pick is worth more, and I would be happy with the clubs decision either way

True. Makes me want Caddy a bit more.

However it also means that our offer to the Suns is weaker than I thought. They could always use it the year later I guess.

I think the flexibility of the compo pick is the attractive part of it.

They can use it when they want and how they want.

Caddy would top off an excellent trade period for Harrington, Neeld and the MFC.

Go get him fellas

Posted

Would love it if we could snare him from under the nose of Essendon as well, would make it even sweeter. Would be great to get him but wouldn't be the end of the world if we couldn't.

Get it right - pick 7 in a "strong" draft.

It was only weak for all the teams that had their picks pushed back by Gold Coast's domination.

Posted

Also spoke about Suns needing a ruckman. I would offer compo pick, Spencer and Warnock if they want him. That trumps Bombers by a mile unless they throw in star player. Their best pick is 19. That would mean we have replaced the bloke who left with Caddy and another compo pick next year.

If the GC go at this then we'll have done well. I would love to get this kid. Some are saying he's a Beamer type - I tend to think of him more as a James Kelly type who's good both in clearances and also on the edge, receiving & creating. We need more quality mids.

Goldcoast had still taken players out of the draft who would have most likely been before 7, matera and May for starters

The draft was labelled weak in comparison to 2012, it may be average

And sorry i was 2 picks off,

Thought the same thing whilst reading the Bombers interest in him this morning in Sunraysia country on hol's. At that time I didn't know that Clark had done a u-turn. Bit slow up here...

Still, am interested in improving the midfield and Caddy fits the bill IMO. If we're on the improve next season we won't have an early pick (other than Viney) and the compo picks will fall mid to late round. This kid is aggressive and I liked him as a draft prospect last year.

I say go for it. I wonder what GC would want in the way of player(s)....as well as one of our compo picks ?

The club would have to have the front running surely...

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
