I have zero insight on any of assistants but I loved West as a player and always hoped this his blue collar desperation and desire to get his hands dirty and get in and under ( and lots of other cliches) would translate to the playing group - apparently not !

Its happening looking forward towards the reshape

From the MFC Site

MELBOURNE ball movement coach Mark Williams, midfield coach Scott West and fitness manager Joel Hocking have departed the club.

Williams was the longest serving member of this group, working with Melbourne for eight years, as part of the Neale Daniher and Dean Bailey coaching era.

Williams, who played 19 matches for Carlton from 1983-88 and made 14 appearances with Western Bulldogs from 1989-90, held several positions during his time with Melbourne.

He was development coach, midfield coach and a three-time premiership winning VFL coach with Melbourne’s then affiliate Sandringham Zebras (2004-06).

General manager of football Chris Connolly thanked Williams for his service at the club.

Connolly said: “Mark has been a long serving member of the football department. He is a very admired person at all levels of the club for his acumen and character. He leaves with our best wishes, and we thank him for his outstanding contribution over the years.”

West, who played 324 matches for the Bulldogs from 1993-2008, was with Melbourne for three seasons, after starting with the Demons in a part-time capacity in 2009.

His contract expired at the end of 2011.

Connolly said: “We thank Scott for his contributions over the journey. Scott has been well regarded by the players and staff, and has played an important part in developing the club’s midfield. Given the recent appointment of a new senior coach, it was determined that he needed the opportunity to bring in his own people - as Scott was out of contract, a hard decision had to be made. We wish Scott well for his future within the football industry.”

Hocking tendered his resignation after three years with Melbourne.

He has accepted another opportunity within the AFL industry.

Connolly said: “Joel has taken our strength and conditioning standards to another level over the last three years. We thank him for his service, and wish him all the best for his next role.”

Garry said over the weekend on Triple M that there were some changes and that some of those do have contracts, so they will have to be sorted out....

Look like it is happening......

Good to see the change is beginning. I think it is time for Mark Williams to move on. He has been with for 8 years through the time of 2 coaches & 2 caretakers and has brought a lot to the club.

Good luck to Mark, Scott & Joel in the future.

Listening to mark on SEN yesterday he said he was going to talk to each of the assistants and announcements will be made later on. I hope there is a clean out. We need a fresh start.

If any of the assistants were to stay I was hoping one would be west, but he was out of contract. Royal still has another 2 years. Josh Mahoney i reckon we could move on. Fresh people and voices is what we need.

Why? Midfield was one (if not the) of our biggest weaknesses. We got smashed.

Yeah, i second this.

Just because he was a good player doesn't mean he is a good coach. I say clean them all out, i like this new cut throat coach.

Our midfield was rubbish this year

Well its all very interesting and engrossing. As much as it is those going its those that will be taking over the roles that intrigues me.

I can only imagine Neeld has very firm ideas about how our defence and midfield ought to operate having successfullyy built elite squads to do thses jobs. Hed also have a fair idea about what a potent forward line ought to look and work like. I havent seen much about Melnourne of recent years to suggest anyone had a firm grip on any of this to date.

The season of change is upon the MFC

Its great to see there are some serious hard calls being made

The club has listened and they seem to have responded our football department was as uncompetitive

as the 186 point loss.

Major surprise for me is West I rated him highly but as many have said over 3 years our midfield has shown little progress.

The last sentence is priceless

'It is believed that former Demons on-baller Josh Mahoney will also depart from their assistant coaching panel."

Mahoney never played for us!!!

I believe the should be a demonland wide embargo on all news, quotes and links to sportsnewsfirst

their journalistic efforts aren't fit for toilet paper

and Hagdorn is a muppet of the highest order it's embarrassing to quote or link anything he writes

not knocking you treners I just think this guy is a worse than a hack he's lazy and he gets paid for it

Why do you want Neil Craig?? Have a look at his yearly record.

Famous for burning players out far too early in the season....CC is a good man...Give him a chance.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

Demonlander The Analyser was the sole Trackwatcher out at Casey Fields today to bring you the following observations from this mornings preseason training session. Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . I think Kolt looks like he’s im

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
