Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Press conference:

Q: Are you ready to be a senior coach

A: Yes

Q: What will I bring to the club

A: It's my way or the highway

Matt Burgan:

Q: What's something we don't know about you?

A: bugger off

Q: What's your favourite music

A: bugger off

I love it! No more long winded crap answers. Just a very simple straight forward, do what I say and we'll be right.

Taking note of your last sentence (which I also love) why does Mark Neeld need someone like Neil Craig to "stand behind" him?

He might benefit from a "mentor"giving advice from the sidelines. But a "senior assistant" might just be a "silly old man" distraction.

I agree! The MFC needed a name a big name who can and will tell the good old boys at board level and executive STAY THE HELL OUT OF MY FOOTBALL DEPARTMENT AND THEY DO

While i suppose M Neeld is a good coach and a good teacher L'm thinking he will lack the horsepower required to take this club a long way from the cultural weaknesses that have held it back for so long

Another lost opportunity in my humble opinion

How many premierships have been won by 'big name' coaches, or even those that have won premierships elsewhere, as against novice coaches (and by that I mean those at their first club) ? Clarkson....first timer, Thompson.....first timer. I think the stats will be very interesting. Btw, the last big name coach we got was Ron Barassi.

In the last 10 years only 2 "non-virgin" coaches have won premierships.

some insight into the dedication of the man...

another thing I liked is that when talking about our list, he mentioned the talent, but it was immediately followed by the hard work that awaits... you almost got a feeling at times that the players were just waiting around for the future to come, being told they'll be great one day... they maybe, and that's fine, but they have to work hard to get there... i have no doubt neeld will command that hard work...

Schwab said on SEN that Viney had done a great job as interim and was seen as a key member of the football department moving forward. Wouldn't surprise to see him become a member of the frontline assistants next season.

He also said, as someone else mentioned, that powerpoints were banned (must have been reading Demonland). They spoke to the candidates about their philosophies, where the game was headed, how they wanted to play...

Some have mentioned it, but when he said:

it was more than just word. He eyeballed the journo who asked the question, not a ridiculous over the top eyeball, but just looked at him, commanding his attention. I loved it, he seemed so in command, hard but calm. Fantastic. Can't wait to see what he does with our team.

It would surprise me - I've heard Viney say something along the lines of the main reason he left Adelaide being because he was frustrated being an assistant.

He either wanted control himself, or to work on development. And he didn't think he ate, slept and breathed it enough to be the head coach.

Filling the role in the interim had changed his view on things slightly.

He also didn't say powerpoints were "banned", but that they weren't what the panel was interested in seeing.

Fair point.

But even someone like Malthouse needs a right hand man.

Just not sure it needs to be a senior citizen...

For those with an iPhone, just got the SEN app and it's a ripper. Can listen to interviews from earlier. Has their chat with MM from this morning. Fascinating. Said Neeld is no nonsense. Also said his advice to Neeld is to be a control freak for the first 3 to 4 years as a coach. Said he will have a lot of long days and late nights to get it right. Like the sound of that.

This Guy is going to Rock....I put money on it right now.

His Body language is straight down the line as are his philosophies.

Great Choice Demons....we got our man Mini Mick.

If you're so happy that we've got our man, give him the respect and drop the 'mini mick'.

The one thing Mick said in his interview on SEN when asked what advice he would give Mark,

"don't be Mick Malthouse and don't be Malcolm Blight".

Mark Neeld needs to remember what he has learnt from both, but the last thing we need is a "Mini-Mick".

His job is to make this side the "hardest" to play against in the competition (as he said).

Then by inference, that means being better than any other side in the competition.

A "Mini-Me" coach won't achieve that.

You'd expect that Neeld will have some influence on:

How the assistants line up - who stays, who goes, who comes in;

Which players are put up for trade, given his aim to coach "the hardest team to play against in the AFL".

Will be interesting to watch.

A big welcome and all the best to Neeldy in his new role.

Thought he deserves his own post.

Also for those who might be interested, a feel of what his style is like in a post match presser from NAB final from March...

Never Meant as a Mick Clone Comment.....Neeld has learnt from great Mentors.

Part of MM will come through along with his own stamp don't worry. He is only 40 and raring to go, you can see it.

Honestly - how would Collingwood supporters know whats going on in the box.

As per previous poster - a very underwhelming appointment.

MFC fails again to land a big fish

A 'big fish' doesn't guarantee success, don't be so naive.

He's also widely regarded in amongst industrie professionals too, what I'm saying isn't just heresay. His work is well documented.

Just listened to the Malthouse I/V on SEN

He could not have given him a better endorsement...

"Control everything within the Footy Club yourself for at least 3-4 years until you can trust everybody to do it your way..."

I think that is what the MFC needs right now, well for a long time really!!!!

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
