Nut..et al. There was teh camp that suggested there was an intention, a deal , an agreement , call it what you will but it encapsulated teh desire to move North. Had he signed his life away early or late it was moot as he had agreed to go. Sheeds confirmed this.

Some of us suspect the clubn either knew it or 99% suspected it. Some thought Stynes definitely 99-100% knew this after chattign with young Tom back in march ( whenever). Some considered the notion that this did indeed become a poker like game. We knew our cards.. GWS knew theirs. Tom was the Wild card..but prize also..or was he ? i.e was he the only prize. . Melb had access to much better medical knowledge and general info than GWS. Tom probably knows exactly where he is medically.

Forget what anyone is saying... look to what they did. Look to what each got. Tom got the motherlode. Good luck to him in that respect. Tom also gets 1st rate medical now and forseeable ( he'll kneed it..( sorry)

I don't buy this whole "they had to up their offer at the last minute" BS. The deal was done in October, the rest is just a smoke screen to make us think he didn't sign in October just like to Sydney trip to see the facilities charade. IMO!

Careful. There is some suggestion on this site that some doctors might share medical information. Unless it's a part of their obligation (eg, specialist referral) I would expect medical ethics to prevail and information not be shared. To say otherwise might be defamatory.

Harcourt.. Its no suprise to anyone Ive been a major advocate that he had decided to leave us ages ago. But do I think he signed ? Maybe not. That doesnt mean , for mine , that he didnt lie al the way through this grubby ( npi ) mess. I think he was certainly less than straight up. I do however dont think he lied to Stynes. The opposite actually, and that how the poker game came into full swing.

I think he , through his management obviously , had agreed in principle to move, to terms not 100% ironed out. GWS realising a game was indeed in motion observed Melb's posturing and reacted. It does in a parallel help the notion it all came about at the end. He may well not have signed the line til last Sunday but he was well and truly 'gone ' a long time ago

He agreed to go ages ago, this being confirmed. Upping the ante..who knows.

Maybe Mr $cully is being badly misjudged and maligned by us MFC suppoters..........he has actually considered this deeply and realized that he may not be physically able to give to us what he feels we deserve after we took him at pick #1, and "sacrificed himself" for the good of our club, realizing that we would get better long term value by him falling on his $word!

Given that Doc Larkins shares his office with none other than Dr. Andrew Daff, our head doc, as well as the Bulldogs and Essendon doctors, you would assume he has some pretty good mail on it. Hell he more than likely would have seen the scans and been in on the actual diagnosing of Toms knee injury! If he thinks it won't hold up, it more than likely won't hold up and we have dodged a massive bullet on this. Good luck to the boy.

Of course he is the six million dollar man so it's likely that Sheedy will ensure that he gets a bionic knee.

I asked Tom fairly recently (3 weeks ago) how much his knee is going to be an issue over the journey, and he said it isn't an issue at all. Then again, I suppose he would say that.

There isn't a direct term that i'm aware of to match exactly that situation you're putting forward, at least not in Texas Hold'em anyway. Might be in 5 card stud etc. The only way you can get to a stronger hand in hold'em is by folding the existing hand and waiting for a better one to be dealt later in the round.

However for those that aren't familiar with the game, in texas hold'em there is something that relates.

One could say that Steve is the hand dealt. GWS obviously believe they were dealt a top hand and therefore expect a big return on the hand they were dealt. So, they throw in a $6 million contract as their initial bet. Albeit this is paid over time in reality i realise, so maybe the front ended part is their initial bet (might be a get out clause for serious injury within a specified time etc).

Now, say GWS eventually don't get the return (or payout) they were expecting as a result of Steve's knee impeding him (after the hand is finished) or alternatively because he's found he isn't up to the level they expected, you could say.....

"GWS overplayed the hand they were dealt"

The other terms in poker one could use to convey a bad outcome for them...

GWS got rivered (technically not correct but has the same intent lol)

GWS took a bad beat

Actually bad beat could be very appropriate as well if things don't work out re Steve's knee (not wishing him any ill will). Basically it means that a poker player (say GWS), whose hand was highly favoured to win at the commencement of the hand, is beaten in an improbable turn of events during the remainder of the hand.

Your probably right, could be construed as defamatory. However sharing of medical information 'in-house' between medical practitioners working under the one roof is not only common practice it is quite often a necessity to get another set of eyes onto a scan or a result, or test a ligament etc.

However more importantly there is a most destinctive conflict of interests here with the doc who by the very least would have complete access to any information on said player he is writing a newspaper article about - I think there are more pertinent issues than me suggesting he knows what's going on.
