HT - all this talk about this Jaeger kid being available with one of "those" picks this year. My question is would he be the likely number 1 draft pick in 2012?

Maybe, just maybe we have negotiated a deal with the AFL/GW$ that we will be given the opportunity to pick him up this year (ie. losing a number 1 darft pick but getting one in return). Reality is, GWS wouldn't be able to get him any otehr way would they?

Does Jaeger O'Meara won't to come to the Dees? he might leave too!! :(

Revenge is best served cold...Let us show some diplomacy, trade with them if needed in a civil matter...Then go for them next year on the field

GWS have loads of kids we may need...Garry & Cameron were very focused yesterday...

Your on th eright tract I think WWL. It wil serve us nothing to get al lsilly and worked up right now. It only plays further into the hands of our adversaries. Best to take a deep breath or two, consolidate our position and work to maximise out compo. I agree..keep civil with GWS. Its distasteful for sure but as they say, keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Play the game Dees..play the game !! They stil have something we can use.. No use alienating them ......just yet B)

The time for revenge will come more than likely as of about 2.10pm one sat arvo

Nows the time to think and act smart...any idiot can do the dumb thing.

You're right.

Place nice for the next 13 months and then steal a kid from them.

I thought our reaction as a club yesterday, from Schwab, McClardy and later Lyon, was not strong enough.

McClardy fumbled badly at the beginning of the press conference, Schwab sort of righted the ship but neither showed fighting qualities or any gusto.

Lyon toeing the "it's the system, don't hate the player" line was weak as well.

People will say they're playing things cooly but yesterday wasn't the time for meek responses. Imagine for a moment how Eddie or Jeff or Steve Kernahan would've reacted.

As someone said in another thread for the love of Christ can we get someone with a bit of [censored] in them at our club.

Is it any wonder....................

Lyon really doesn't want to be there, and is a short term fix

McLardy is Jimmy's deputy

Schwab looks like he has been given the mother of all pull throughs, and could be considered luck to still be there

I'm not sure they know who is in charge at the moment...........you're right, Eddie and Jeff would have unloaded both barrels, but unfortunately our sheriff is struggling a little at the minute.

Not so sure about this now. I think Lyon has taken the $cully move quite personally. Didn't see what context he said it in, but he made mention that he is a competitive person and that GW$ would want to make sure that all their players are signed up. So, in my view, that looks like he's hanging around for a couple of years yet...

I don't give a frack what emotion other fans have...

And I for one don't want empty words at an emotional press conference.

You want counter punches?

Then wait and see what happens with the compensation, whether we can land a player in trade week, and the hiring of a coach in October (hopefully).

Substantive action is what this club needs.

As a lot here know I have been a critic of our Weak Attitude as a club in lots of areas.

However I agree with you rpfc on this occasion.

There is much to play out here and in the Words of WYL "revenge is a dish best served cold"

Cold Revenge is by far our best weapon....The Club, & or the playing list have almost got to make a pledge to each other...Do not speak to the media, speak to the members"....Our opponents do not care whether we sink or swim right now.

We have got to lean on each other...Get behind the club and Pledge as much as you can to the "100% Melbourne Fund" so we can build our Footy Department.

Don't hide Demons. The only way we will win this war is climbing the AFL Ladder.

Today we woke up to a new day...Tom is gone, BUT we are still here.

You know the reason why everyone loves Gary Lyon, because he is the only person that provides our club with a voice! whether it be on the footy show, or on footy classified he always states his frustrations about the club.

But there are certain things that must be answered.

-Why are we asking for 'maximum compensation' ala Gary Ablett? A strong club should ask for MORE than Gary Ablett. Scully is worth more than Ablett on the trade table considering he is 7 years younger so we should be getting more than Ablett.

A strong club should at least pretend to demand it.

-Also, a strong club would have asked for a logical explanation as to why a judd-Visy deal couldn't have been done for Tom Scully. Adrian Anderson came out with 'Oh, we've tightened the rules since then' and we just roll over and accept. The fans ought to know why they have changed the rules, demand to see the rule changes and also put pressure on the Judd-Visy deal to cease. I've seen none of this.

These 2 points should and would be undertaken if we were a strong club. Fans deserve answers. Collingwood or Carlton were never going to let any of their players go let alone one of the best young talents in the game.

And for anyone says that he isn't, it's like you've been dumped by Jennifer Hawkins and you're trying to rationalise by saying that she wasn't that good, when in fact she was. Melbourne fans, Scully will be a champion

He will NOT be a champion. He is a small, fast, midfielder with elite endurance, but his overall talent is limited by his size, poor marking abilities, and poor disposal efficiency, which will improve, but it's not built into him, a la Trengove. Take into account his knee, and he will be remembered in 5 years as the media hyped overrated number 1 draft pick who took an outrageous money deal when it was being thrown around wildly by a new franchise. From day one after the Trengove/Scully arrival at MFC, it was clear to me who the champion was going to be. I really wanted Scully to be worth the hype, but apart from one quarter against the Doggies in the wet, he just never convinced me, and although I know he had issues this year, he was just woeful. Jordan Gysberts and Sam Blease have more upside than Tom Scully. Just you wait and see. I'm rapt to see him go. If we're smart with using compo picks, we'll do very well out of this.

Agree. Schwab spoke like someone looking for a job with the AFL. I bet he puts his hand up for Adrian Andersons job when he moves to the top job.

It could well be a longer term win win for both clubs. Scully could be a champion and if we use the picks well could unearth some talented players.

What would you have expected from a Press conference? An attack on the AFL? Bite the hand that feeds you.

Three years ago, Schwab was looking for a senior AFL post and was pressured into the MFC role. His current position at MFC is tenuous at best.

He would have done himself and Club no favours to be publicly critical of the AFL at this time.

Not sure about the champion bit but my gut feel is he might not live up to all the hype whilst still being a solid contributor.

Never at any stage felt $ally was fully committed or 'in' with the playing group or the club. Fully committed to himself in a professional sense....sure, no doubts there.

Trenners, the exact opposite.

Agree, I think we've actually had a huge win here given the compensation picks we received.....provided we use them well! (O'Meara!)

I think you've completely missed the point. the rules for compensation were set well before anyone was signed - we have received as much as we were ever going to - it is not a negotiation. The challenge is to capitalise on the opportnity.

Whether the rules should have been framed to put 2-year players off limits is a completely different scenario.

Bottom line - GWS are struggling big time to attract anyone of note - $6m for $cully who is already carrying a deteriorating injury, over-the top offers for Ward & Davis, Palmer struggles to be be in Freo's best 22, add in Brogan, Chadley, Power & Junior who were all retired from bottom-tier clubs - good luck Tom - you'll need it!

Personally, i think we're doing the best we can at the top with what we have, whilst requiring a leader to provide a real voice and true leadership to take us forward in the long term and 'drive' things aggressively post Jimmy IF he decides to take a break. If he gets back on board health wise, as we all hope he can, then that's a different matter.

McLardy is new to the media spotlight but growing into the role, albeit slowly. Not sure he's president material or wants to be though. Some potential showing though.

Schwab's a veteran/pro at this game now but also an AFL journeyman who would probably be just as happy in any other AFL organisation if the deal was attractive enough. I think we have him for at least the next 12 months yes? Unless we found an equal or better alternative as CEO then better to have him at this point given his experience. Provided he agrees to keep his neo corporate theories and machinations at the administrative level only! And i'm not saying he hasn't...just hoping it didn't play a part in the mid year issues given all the rumours.

Garry doing a great job so far at filling the hole but for how long. Hopefully he'll realise the necessity for a leader/voice within the club during his stint there and continue on for as long as is needed. Maybe even as interim president should Jimmy decide to take a break. Hopefully Gazza can learn from others, like Eddie and the Chief, that it is possible to wear 2 hats and continue on successfully in both roles.

EDIT: The 'Lone Wolf' should have all the time in the world!

I don't know at what point you decided that there was an inverse relationship between MFC being shite and

My highliting the fact. To say that I'm enjoying it is being churlish and lacks insight.

The club is at a cross road at the moment. We have a president who is gravely ill

and his lack of presence is being missed please don't misconstrue this but his leadership is lacking and it's evident.

Our administration resolved debt got a new major sponsor but there are issues about communication, foresight and management

outside the scope of their field.

On field it doesn't get much worse we loose a traitor for 16 pieces of silver.

Our former captain is making a comeback to spite us.

We are the laughing stock of the competition once again after 4 years of brutal

Insipidness. Now I fail to see the joke in all this I really do if things aren't rosy I'm

not going to say they are I have supported this club for every year I have been alive and

Have never seen anything remotely close to success.

If it helps you and others sleep at night by ignoring what's happening fair enough.

But what right do you and others have by criticising those who are justifiably unhappy with our clubs current course.

This club needs to be strong, successful and earn respect there is no way this is happening.

While I do not agree with your comment on Skully ( any player with no hope of playing for a flag in the next 3 - 4 years would have taken the money. Hell I would )

I wouldn't sell Cam's love for the club short.

He's been around but he is a Demon. He is really enjoying working for the club, and he if wished to move on - the issues a few months ago would have been the time to leave.

I don't know whether he will be around after 2012 but he wants to be here and he loves the club.

I think you are right.

I have no idea what goes on inside the inner sanctum of the MFC.

He may have upset DB so what in my opinion.

The guy was not exactly leading us to glory on the field.

I thought he handled the monday press conference well, rescured McLarty IMO.

He looked more like the Vice president than the Vice president

I cannot remember a CEO that has performed better in the last 20 years.

IMO we could do worse than have him as President in the future

I hear what you're saying Diablo.

The carp dished up this year was unacceptable no matter how you look at it.

But i also think WYL is on the money here.... and i'm not saying you personally don't give enough already and haven't done so over many years. Most of us have i'm sure. But the bigger we get....both membership wise, $ wise and attendance wise....the stronger we'll become in all facets of the club. Maybe you've done all you can. I'm sure many here have also reached their plausible/reasonable limit in terms of giving on and off the field and are frustrated as hell at the on field results as they aren't able to give any more and want a reward for effort/loyalty/$ contributed etc.

But also, just maybe (i'm hoping lol), this year was a huge turning point within the club and a 'sorting out' of those who are up to the challenge of 'becoming and being successful' going forward, and those that aren't! Both at the top and within the FD. And i'm not saying we haven't sorted out all the wheat from the chaff yet either. Nor am i saying success will happen overnight.

I don't have any expectations for significant improvement myself unless we snare a top line coach/team and even then no expectations until 2013 when the boys have another 2 pre-seasons under them, understand the new coaches strategy etc and able to put it into practice with more mature bods/minds.

As WYL said, just gotta push and keep pushing hard....all of us (i'm not targeting you in this regard Diablo.....just a general statement). For my part this means just stretching the purse strings a little more for next year and buying say a family membership instead of just 2 etc. I prefer the idea of buying extra memberships over contributing to 'a fund' as such, as i believe the extra membership will help the club from a marketing point of view (Sponsors/Fixture negotiations etc).

That's pretty much all the media highlights as well in terms of how the club is progressing off the field. That and attendance records/profit loss lol. So the club gets the extra $ plus the stats to show off and market itself with.

Also success breeds success. The more members we have, and the more non-members who see this, provided we are seen to be improving on the field, i think the more non-members will join up and jump on the band wagon.

I also want the results on the field and don't accept the carp that was dealt up this year....but we just have to be as positive as we can and contribute as much as we can. All you can do after that is get to as many games as possible and barrack your brains out and hope for the best.

Oh, and also keep venting our spleen on here lol

P.S. If we're able to get 36,000 members dishing up this carp...imagine what we could get to if we start to turn this around and peeps see the light mate! 40,000 ...even 50,000 within 3 - 5 years isn't impossible! Of course the reverse could be said given this year's nonsense i realise. Prefer to look at the glass half full though! The half empty is too depressing.

Fair comment.

Just looking as an outsider. He does appear happy doing what he does i agree. As to whether it's "love" of club or love of 'the role' or maybe 'love of game' who knows. If you know him or someone close to him who knows that it's definitely 'love of club' then happy to defer to your better judgement/knowledge RP.

I guess the point i was making was that he's a pro/veteran and that they aren't easy to find at this level with experience in the AFL as such.

Happy with him staying, provided he keeps his neo corporate theory/views within the bounds of the board/admin and not try and impose them (at least without board approval) onto the FD staff and players.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs.
