Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Dees coaching sub-committee: Garry Lyon (chair), President Jim Stynes, Vice Presidents Don McLardy and Guy Jalland and CEO Cameron Schwab.

Why is the CEO picking the coach?

Thoughts?

You'd think it would be wise to add an outsider with relevant experience.

I'm pretty sure they'd have an idea of how much they are willing to spend don't you??

Why shouldn't the CEO be involved? Wasn't a major issue the Schwab was having to big an influence of the footy dept? Now he's picking the coach? Seems odd to me that's all.

Schwab has nearly the most experience in the whole league regarding recruiting- players & coaches. The very big surprise to me was not having Connolly.

Schwab as CEO should be on the panel to select the Coach.

He is only one voice in the process but needs to represent the appropriate commercial interests of the Club.

I would like a couple of independent consultants (experienced football backgrounds not currently involved at MFC) to sit in on the process.

With respect to Stynes condition, Lyon is the only onw there with football experience. JCB, if you can read tealeaves then it shouldn't really be a surprise that Connolly is not there.

Awesome - my first deleted comment!

Warning - don't speak out against Schwab.

Any [censored] wonder this club is in disarray.

You have been given fair reason why it was deleted. Be validly critical but do away with the name calling. And its got nothing to do with the Club.

Don't you put that evil on Demonland, Ricky Bobby!!

Seriously though, the club being in disarray has very little to do with Moderators deleting vitriolic posts about Cam Schwab on Demonland...

I think we should have a representative on the Coaching Sub Committee.

After all, we are clearly all die hard fans. Plus we would really appreciate all the inside info.

I nominate Whispering Jack. Rhino, maybe you should tag along as well, just in case anyone gets out of line.

The only problem I see is that the people that made the last decision are going to make this one as well.

Agree 100%. Why do we need both vice-presidents? Would much rather a former player (David neitz) and an independent (Leigh Matthews?).

There is a real sense of "we can do it all ourselves". I love Garry and Jim, but seriously concerned about this.

Schwab as CEO must be there.

The Head Coach needs to be suitable to All Facets of the club. To present as the Face of the club & to also be the Media front man, and of course needs to be able to Manage the whole onfield side of things.

You'd think that with getting such things in place as Debt crunching, Performance based contracts & collecting sponsors, as well as some negative speculation, that the CEO would also want to be seen to be having a say in the future direction, re the New Coach. I'd say he's earnt that, as well.

Hmmn, your right JCB, Recruiting is probably Cams greatest strength. He has many, but he does well getting good people.

Lets have a look at the 5 man team the Bulldogs put together.

Simon Garlick - CEO (Chair)

James Fantasia - Football operations manager

Geoff Walsh - Board member

Chris Grant - Former Club Champion

Tom Harley - Independent

So out of the current board you would only have a person who is doing a gratuity fill in role (Lyon) for someone who is possibly terminally ill, recently in hospital and unable to operate functionally in role??? You have to be seriously joking. Of course at least two board members should and must be present on the selection of one of the most important, highly paid and high profile roles in the Club.

I cant see the value in having a former player like Neitz involved. He could not work out at time why ND was sacked. And given the love from the players for the past coach apart from the legacy of the culture we are trying to change I dont see any value Neitz brings. I have no issue with having independents (possibly two) who may participate in the process and provide recommendation to the Board. But ultimately the Board should decide.

This about sums it up for me too. The lack of an independent is an issue. Laughable that anyone thinks the CEO doesn't belong on the panel.

Rhino, give me a break.

You are critical without providing any real substance. You say I am seriously joking because I consider 3 board members (not including Lyon who is liasing with the Board) and the CEO to be heavy handed.

Then you go on to say there should be at least two board members (there is currently 3 mate, 4 including the interim football director) and you wouldn't mind a couple independents.

So what you are really saying is, Gouga I agree with you, but I am going to have a dig anyway?

Pathetic.

For the record, my preferred board would committee would be:

- Lyon

- Stynes (or McLardy if required due to Stynes medical requirements)

- Schwab

- A recently retired player such as a Neitz (it doesn't have to be him)

- An independent, such as Leigh Matthews who knows just a little bit about what makes a good coach

Also re your comment about Neitz not working out why Daniher was sacked? What is wrong with the captain not supporting the sacking of his own coach? This is a totally different situation. Neitz is three years removed from the game. Totally, totally different.

Also, while I am it. Your comment that the Board should decide is correct. The Board will decide, once the sub-committee makes its recommendation.

It is not common in business for the Board to do the leg work before. 1 or 2 board members is fine. 3 or 4 is excessive.

We dont need a coaching committee. Between the journos and the 'experts' here, the coach is already selected ! :)

Seriously - good luck, fellas. Build a great position description, then the perfect person description, and then find your man (or woman) that fits the bill.

Maybe your right, chicken,,, B)

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
