5 touches for the entire game up until the 9 minute mark of the 3rd quarter. This, given a week in the scoobies and his contract in doubt. He's way better than that. He's already decided to go. This is his final salute.

Given the club's status - I don't blame him.

If that's the case ... good riddance.

In case you were wondering about Aaron Davey....

Really Sylvia played pretty deep today, and his second half wasn't horrible. I'd still rather Sylvia at FF than the skipper.

It's beyond me why he hasn't taken a turn at half back yet, especially considering Stef Martin plays most a game in the back pocket.

When I jumped on here earlier in the year and had a crack at Sylvia and everyone jumped down my throat!well I can't wait to see the back of him!

LAZY, LAZY PLAYER. NO 2ND OR 3RD EFFORTS. Hungry and full of himself. Not worth $4.50 let alone $450k.

Sylvia would only be about 10cm too short.. 10 kilos too light and about 10 minutes too late to play an effective FF

Thats not his position

I didn't. Though must admit to having thought he could almost be captain material at some stage this year - I'm sure the thread could be dug up.

He's way better than how he played today. That, to me, shows disinterest. His mind is elsewhere. Possibly GWS. Maybe we get the Scully most here aren't sure we wanted anyway.

Personally, I think Scully will be a much better player than Sylvia. Just not in the next two years.

Time to push our expectations back a little in time.

What do you mean you don't blame him? You think that it is okay to bail on a club because it is going through a rough patch?

I don't think he will go and don't even think he was that bad today but if you think that because MFC are struggling a little that its acceptable that its senior players should want to leave then maybe you don't understand what it means to be part of a football club. What you don't blame him wanting to leave cause things are a bit hard at the moment?

We're not going through a rough patch. We're going through a rough 65 years. You muppet.

He's off b/c he realises that the same old shyte is continuing as always. You'll be hoping beyond hope for the next 50 years b/c you've got no idea.

Don't give me the 'rough patch' routine. That's exactly what's been holding us back since the last grand final we won, before we were born. Apologetics like you are exactly why this club is such a farce. You should continue making excuses and talking about 'rough patches' while young blokes with talent go elsewhere and pursue some success.

Sorry, but I just love the 'things are a bit hard at the moment' line. We just tanked for 3 years to get a bunch of draft picks that we now don't have the know-how to develop. My hope is that along with Sylvia, go: Tapscott, Bail, Howe, Frawley, Jamar, and Trengove. They need to do this while they have some value and before we become Fitzroy - which, believe me, is inevitable.

Sylvia is a selfish player who doesn't know the meaning of TEAM.

He plays for himself not the club and his decision to kick on an impossible angle after seeing Dunn in the clear in the box should see Sylvia play out the rest of the season for Casey. He is a disgrace!

Best call I heard all day was a Melbourne supporter who got stuck into Sylvia for being slow saying "GET YOUR WALLET OUT OF YOUR BACK POCKET SYLVIA!!" cracked me up!

Ouch. I truly hope that's not the case. But I can, alas, see where you're coming from.

We have won 7 premierships in the last 65 years. If your going to state numbers at least try and be correct. Muppet.

Before we were born? You know me too? And sorry I don't think the club is a farce. I don't pay my membership and turn up every week to watch crap displays like today thinking the whole club is a farce. And please tell me who are all these young blokes with talent that are leaving for some success? Is Scully maybe leaving for success is he?

Melbourne will inevitably die like Fitzroy? Do you recon you could over react more? Guess what buddy, things are a bit hard at the moment, they have been for a while. But guess what, the club is not going to die either. So I personally don't hope that all our best players leave like you do. Could maybe do with loosing some sh*tty supporters though.

Look, I was always one to defend Sylvia when he mucked up. But I honestly felt after today that he has thrown in the white towel and is heading elsewhere for 2012. Seemed disinterested in the contest and being involved with his teammates.

I wouldn't go as far as saying "good riddance" but I am at the point where I think we need to get players that put themselves before the team out of the club. I just hope we get something good for him. Sad end to what could have been a terrific MFC career.

I hope he stays, however, If we got pick 14 for McLean, we will get at least pick 5 for Sylvia.

Christ Barry Dawson don't make you Patch Adams you're a bigger buzz kill than Buzz Killington.

The overreacting is a farce. Rewatching the game tonight the non handball was an error but I believe he thought of giving it off felt pressure and rushed the snap.

Lynden Dunn can't exactly get angry at that, he and his captain pull that selfish crap weekly.

We let Sylvia go we may be in turmoil. He may be slack sometimes but when your teammates continue to let you down I'm not surprised all our players don't laze. This is the culture that must be removed and when the current leadership group are moved on it will be.

Seriously though, some really need to step back and look at the MFC before declaring us dead.

Wow...an average of just over 1 possession each for the quarter. Nice. And in the 2nd quarter where we were blown away, again.

Obviously a week at Casey had the desired effect on Davey/Sylvia/Morton (Morton had more i think...but still....he needed more lol. Davey might have had 1& a half).

Frankly i see this as another demonstration of where we aren't at FD wise. With players coming in and out of Casey 1 week here, 2 weeks there, there's no chance of consistancy for those replacing them in the seniors, or to truly send a 'non-negotiable' message to those getting dropped (or allowing them to find a little confidence/form and a demonstration of true commitment by producing results at Casey before seeing them return).

Was it KC who said in his review that both Davey and Sylvia had little impact on the Casey result last week? Yet the very next week.... they're back in the fold.

Yet another demonstration of our FD/selection panel sending mixed signals to the playing group IMO.

Might help to explain the roller coaster a little.

I agree. Problem is, where is his position? Gives the impression he's either moved on (trade wise) or his heart isn't in it. Same with Davey. Totally disinterested for about 80% of game today.

For mine i'd be happy at this point to trade those who lack the heart to contest and bring the intensity (including 2nd/3rd efforts) week in and week out for most of the game for hungry quality goal to goal line players who are willing to do so.

Also like to see some who we'd like to hang on to and develop, shunted down to Casey to hopefully learn these lessons and develop etc. That's a big part of our problem too i feel. We don't have our own reserves team to control/drill/develop and provide direction as to the style/type of player and play we're looking for.

A huge advantage to the Vic clubs that do IMO.

At this point i'd be happy to trade Morton, Davey, Sylvia, Bennell, Wanna, Bate and Warnock for a big tall key pack marking/accurate kicking forward. A grunt/class in an under mid fielder like Mitchell/Selwood (or alternatively just get Judd...that's almost 2 players in one lol) and/or a solid tallish half back who can direct the troops down back and allow Frawley to play on 2nd best/Smaller defenders and run off etc.

Should be easy enough eh!

funny thing is, colin sylvia will finish top 5 in the B&F.

A damning comentary of our club if ever one

Cliches are cliches because they are mainly true. Here's one for you. "Are you part of the problem, or part of the solution? I was one, among a number, that said Bailey, as good a bloke as he is, should have been gone along time ago.. No doubt he could develop the characters of young men, but he was not a senior coach's bootlace. What we are now witnessing is the "hangover". Our list, in my view, is far better than what we are seeing of late, but with the right footy department, we will see us on the rise in the not too distant future.

I, like others on here, can remember far worse. In particular, the 70's through to the mid 80's. But we stuck. In terms of effort and team fundamentals, I too have been disgusted. That is the lot of any supporter of any footy club, However, what goes around comes around. Failure breeds discontent and disunity among players and supporters alike........ and yes, I have had my moments. But the Dees will be back, bigger, stronger and more determined than ever.

If you don't have the courage to stomach that roller coaster, then go away, because we don't need you to take our oxygen. In whatever way you can, if your heart truly does beat true, then stay the course, give what you can and barrack loud and clear.

That is what a true demon does. Let's not give up the ghost now. We've only just begun.!!!!

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
