Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

No player on our list (and very few in the league) are capable of dominating the way Sylvia did today.

Sure, he doesn't do it every week, and he is coming off some lukewarm form, but you don't trade away players of his quality if you can avoid it. On Grand Final day do you want Colin Sylvia playing for your team, or the opposition?

29 touches and 5 goals........any further comments???

His crime of inconsistency is the staple diet of the MFC.

No champion since Flower, yet his is crucified and considered trade bait for not being one.

Wake up people!

Yeah!

He loves this Club.

He looks like he wants to stay, and he looks like he's a Loyal young man, and he looks like he's growing up, even if it is slowly.

He'll be like a good bottle of wine, keep slowly improving.

He could go down as a Fine Melbourne player and a Finals footballer. A rare breed around our parts, over the last 45 years,,, but more to come.

He'll one day be one of our leaders.

Here's one for all you mob who think that Sylvia is the son of Scully.

Sylvia wants to stay a Demon

Cut the bloke some slack. He may not be the most consistent player in the league, but he is surrounded by a lot of mediocrity, AND, he wants to stay!

He was terrific today. It was like a captain's game. Like our club, I have no idea what to make of Sylvia. Great player and if he leaves I'm sure in a better culture he'll thrive. If he stays, maybe he needs some responsibilty? Our leadership group is clearly going to have a major overhaul.

He is the last player we can afford to lose next year.

In a team full of slight body players there is no substitute for strength.

Exactly, but there are some round here who have hs transfer papers already signed. Absolutely required for mine.

Col's a beauty, but sometimes people just need a shakeup. He's got his heart in the right place.

He'll turn around to become one of the leaders of our club.

Against Richmond we saw the best and worst of Colin Sylvia.

His marking, kicking and agression can be first class and he is definitely best 22 but cannot string together enough top level games.

On the other hand, his elbow post disposal contact with the Richmond was cheap, dumb and immature.

In addition his inability to spot up an MFC player with a pass to be 20 metres was very poor.

He could be a very important player for us...but he is not a leaders bootlace.

He is one of the most frustrating we have, and we will continue to hope that this game becomes the norm.....

But Rhino is correct he is not a leader, but that doesn't make his contributions (when they occur) any less valuable.

Colin can be elite.

He isn't, and it is his own fault.

He will never be a leader, but perhaps the new coach can get him to play like that on a consistent basis and actually adhere to structures.

I want to keep him, of course, but I am not going to sit here and chastise those that have had a go at Colin in this thread following one game - a fortnight after he was playing for Casey.

Lot of people in this thread eating their words, should have a good hard look at themselves.

Gun player, champion bloke. If he hadn't have been out there yesterday, and couldn't have been thrown into the guts in the third term, we would have lost by 10 goals.

Heart bleeds red and blue. If he had more support he would be even better to this stage of his career.

AJ the problem with CS has been that he does exactly what happened yesterday put in a really good game then has a couple of very ordinary games.

I do not intend " to have a good look at myself" I have questioned CS in the past hopefully he will continue yesterdays form and I will not have to worry in the future about him.

One of the problems at the MFC is IMO that we do not question enough!

It was not CS's fault yesterday but in case it has escaped you we got beaten yesterday by Richmond and I will continue to question things!

gee...must be contract time or something.. ....funny sense of deja vu !!

Lol.....i think a degree of skepticism is healthy BB.

However, i'm not judging anyone's performance (nor was i before yesterday's match) following the West Coast game last week.

To me the true competition (for us) finished last week. These last 3 games were always going to be junk time matches where the boys had nothing to lose and were coming up against lessor quality opponents, when compared to previous matches and the stage of the season (where we were still in the mix potentially).

Sylvia came up against a better quality opposition last week and.....

And how would you rate his performance for the rest of the year prior to yesterday?

Has he lived up to expectations?

I'm not saying he's a poor performer generally over the year, but i'm not sure he's lived up to our expectations (or his) on a consistent basis either.

The dilemma is, that at his best, IMO he's our only part-time A grader.

But the emphasis is part time. Like any player, they're all tradable provided we receive extremely good value in return. I'd be willing to trade him, but only for extremely good value like a key A grade forward or mid fielder.

If we can't find this value (which is highly unlikely) then a shorter based (performance oriented) contract for mine going forward given the $ he's probably on and his seniority/experience.

What he showed yesterday was a glimpse in a match that doesn't count IMO. A nice glimpse but a real teaser at the wrong end of the season. He has stepped up before (Pies match last year etc). Not saying he hasn't. But i'm not judging anyone on yesterday's game....or the next 2 either.

Sylvia is a conundrum.. occasionally annoyingly good...often conspicuously absent..always posssibly brilliant.

If there was any consistency about him he would be a major assett for us.. But theres not..Many seem oblivious to this. Id still trade him given half a decent rreturn for such.

Melbourne possible advance and climb to any riches will only be upon a framework of week in week out improvement and coheseive and clever football. Many wil lampon for sure but Colin has NEVER displayed consistency or al lparts of an A grade game.. He brings SOME of it ...sometimes. At others he does littel..or does stupid things.. Even yesterday was another example..

Sorry..id rather he was someone elses headache

People who are saying Sylvia struggles against the better teams are right, but when you play off a half forward flank for 3/4 of a game and we get far less I50's than even Richmond atm i cant see him getting many opportunities. When are midfield competes alot more against the lower and mid rung teams his opportunities increase, i also disagree about his ability through the middle, he goes in for burst and provides a spark imo, couldnt do it all day, he isnt a pure midfielder

People saying he isnt consistent, he has had his best season for us by a mile, we have done the stats before and people dont care, but a guy who is about second for goals scored, first for goal assists and first for I50's cant be that bad or inconsistent..... that reaks of a dominant player in a team

Also he will finish top 5 in the Bluey, and will go a long way to winning it, he has been to good, he was dropped the other week to make a statement, one senior player had to go and he was it, only lasted one week

OMG. You're a serial offender when it comes to writing people/teams off.

If we had you in charge of list management, we'd have virtually no one on our list. And would be far worse off.

And have the highest loosing game margin in 20 years, be fifth last on the ladder, have lost more games by 9+ goals than in 2008

and be unable to beat Richmond.

We are not covering ourselves in glory at present are we!

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
