Last time we got killed by the press. Could hardly get it out of our 50m defensive zone.

Let's see if we have learned anything today!

our thrashing to geelong is retrospectively looking a little better, after others lost by margins of 150, 138 and 165! haha

it's shame port aren't playing geelong over the next few rounds

One thing I have been told by someone at the club is that we are trying to implement a press and use tactics to defeat a press (could have fooled me). But it is heavily reliant on players playing a role and filling a spot. Only one player out of place and it looks like a sieve with good sides cutting through it with ease.

This has been our problem. Our players don't work hard enough or for each other. Hence most times we look second rate trying to do this. The well drilled teams look impenatrable. Its no secret who they are and they have mongrel coaches and good on field leaders.

It was hinted that Sylvia was one of the worst offenders and hence his dropping last week.

Will watch with interest today.

It's sunny here now but supposed to rain later on. Hopefully it holds off (I know, there is a roof)...

Looks like at least one player will pull out today with Gawn and Nicholson not playing for Casey.

Jon Ralph suggested Jamar (pronounced Gem argh FFS!!) hasn't trained for a few days and was unlikely.

Also that Cox was doubtful.

We got killed at the centre bounces last week, so if Jamar doesn't play and Cox does, we're in massive strife. Not that we aren't already.

Why am I going again? :(

Wow. Brad Green out. Whatever the reason, I can't say I'm disappointed. Hopefully Jamar stays in the selected side.

I shouldn't be happy hearing that but I am.

Perfect opportunity for Trengove, Watts and Jordie. They're our leaders today.

They're our leaders every week from what I can see...

Hmmm...

Late change, fake injury, avoid the accompanying media [censored]..?

I doubt it, because if he weren't injured, I imagine they'd want him playing at Casey to get some form.

My thoughts exactly. At first I considered a sneaky manoeuvre to avoid media coverage, but it quickly dawned on me that if we wanted to drop him then half the reason for that is to see him get some form at Casey.

I now wonder if maybe he's been carrying an injury of late and that has been hampering his performance.

Whatever it is, it will be interesting to see who takes the toss (Moloney, I'm guessing) and who stands up in team huddles and the like. It will also be interesting to see who plays forward, given we have no Green and no Jurrah. I wonder if the FD was tempted to play Gawn instead of Nicholson and then play Jamar as FF all day.

Makes me wonder too.

I've been very critical of him, and said this should be his last year, because when he gets involved in the play he looks slow, tentative and reactive.

It's very possible the reason for this is that he's been carrying an unknown injury, although he must have had it for some time.

I can imagine the feeling of a duty as captain to play through injury if at all possible, especially when we lack senior leaders on the field.

God I hope this is the case, because he has been horrible this season.

Agree he has had a terrible year but like the last 4 years our delivery into the fwd line has been terrible also.

Will play next year, no question.

Of course, maybe we're just looking for an excuse or reason. Clutching onto anything we can.

I'm inclined to give this some weight, if only because it's been such a spectacular drop in form from last year.

Malthouse on SEN makes a great statement before the bounce: he doesn't want to see us use a loose man in defence. Far too defensive-minded, especially if we start with it, and would play straight into West Coast's hands as it would free up a player to add to their run.

He's great to listen to, isn't he?

I'm an unashamed fan.

Oh dear, Wakelin seems to have suggested we have a loose man in defence already. It's giving West Coast a plus one at the contest, not just sitting back like our loose man does. Pathetic strategy, something I was hoping would disappear after Bailey.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

    TRAINING: Wednesday 5th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
