Wish him all the best and hope he makes a full recovery.

Plus one.

Unfortunate. Some good spoiling of Garlett prior to the incident. Takes a year to get back, two years to really get back.

Simply sickening... this poor bloke cannot take a trick!! 11 senior games and was just starting to really find his feet with the Dees.

Wishing him all the best and hope he's right for season 2013 (??). Next year highly doubtful if a 12-month recovery period.

One would think we will never see the best of Strauss again...very sad

Sam Blease is back playing, Barlow is back playing.

This will put his career 2 years back, but he is so young, and it's definitely not the end for him.

If he wants to come back, he will.

It's an absolutely horrid injury to go through, and it will take a lot of emotional and physical strength to get through, but I'm confident he will with the help of the club.

He showed so much promise this year, that he just has to back himself and get better. There is a place in the team for him if he fights for it.

But what sh*t luck. So unjust :(

6 months for that. Larkins is dreaming. He will struggle to back before 2013 if at all.

Rotten luck for player just starting to find his feet.

And tacky add by Tasplan about going hard and retirement when a player is injured like that.

Get well quick James. Deserve better than that.

Didn't notice any ads at the time, was that on the TV?

Was a terrible Injury

All we can do is hope it doesn't end a promising career

Just when he started to compliment his excellent kicking ability too

Just wish him all the best in his recovery

'Only' had one rod inserted and was the cleanest break you can hope for. Also alot higher up than leg than Barlow's which is an advantage.

Few positives out of a terrible situation. Will come back in late 2012/2013 and do great things for MFC.

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned this yet but it was his left leg not his right which is a pretty big point to note.

Strauss will come back. 1 year rehab, 1 year for confidence = 2 years. I hope the club does the right things and gives him another contract

The Club will look after him, no doubt. At least a rookie spot in 2012, while maintaining current remuneration, I reckon.

He could be rookied for his next contract. I would have thought medical insurance would have covered loss of income for him.

Get better soon James.

Virtually all of the notable tib/fb disaster stories we know of (ie: > 1 year recovery) seem to have involved an early decision to go for as quick a recovery as possible, with fingers crossed against any complications which might have been avoided by a more conservative approach. I think the trend has shifted towards just accepting these will take 12 months rather than aiming for anything much quicker. Hopefully Straussy sails through the next few weeks, starts healing up beautifully and can get back to weight bearing in a couple of months.

I don't mean to be rude or insensitive or any of that, I'm just raising a point for discussion:

Does anyone else think that Strauss breaking his leg may have helped him gain a new contract?

I don't know his contractual situation but I think he may have been OOC at the end of the year. If he hadn't broken his leg I don't think we can say for sure he would have been offered a new contract (although he had strung some games together of late).

I wonder whether the club now feels obliged to offer him a contract, if only one on the rookie list, to help him through this period of his life/career. I'm not saying I disagree with that, I'm just wondering whether maybe, grossly, this is something of a blessing in disguise.

I could of course be way off.

The way this club is going, delisting players who actually are willing to hurt themselves for this club would be probably the stupidest thing the MFC could do.

They are a business and if they don't want him they will not re-offer regardless of injury or not.

Personally though, I think they would be fools. He was ripping Jeff Gartlett a new one in the first.

Shocking stuff for the poor guy, as has been said he was starting to string games together and really find his place in the team. Breaks my heart to see this kind of thing happen to any footballer.

Really hope he can come back from this.

All the best with your recovery, James.

I think he is contracted for next year anyway and would expect him to get another contract after next year. As for the rookie list, lists are going to be expanded and the rookie list will probably be done away with after this year or next year.

So wrong in so many ways. Geez.

It was a shocking incident to see live at the ground. I think they didn't realise how graphic it was when they showed it over and over on the scoreboard. We haven't had a good run with these sorts of injuries in games involving Melbourne, Strauss, Nathan Brown, Jason Snell.

I didn't say that's what I thought the situation was. I was merely asking if people thought that might be what was going to happen.

Well done on missing that.

Completely agree AoB.

Even if he were out of contract, I'd have been shocked if he weren't re-signed.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
