Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Dean Laidley's 'interview' on AFL 360 tonight

jumbo returns

Recommended Posts

He said that the playing group need to run hard and fast in a straight line, put their head over the ball, then comes structures, then comes the game plan.

Gerard asked him about the list and he said, 'Plenty of talent, but it takes more than talent to win a game of footy...the dynamic of the group is the most important thing......it looks like that is, that is, lacking.

Robbo pipes in...'You want it, don't you?'

Laidley...ummmm, got stung last year by missing out on the Essendon job, doesn't want to be stuffed around, so he'll talk to a few people to get the 'lie of the land' before he commits.

'I would entertain anything with the Melbourne Footy Club.'

'We won games at North because we were tight knit as a staff and as a playing group...'

Watchareckon?

On that basis he must be running as far away from the MCG as his feet will take him.

"Tight knit group" hardly seems to describe the Dees at the present.

Having said that I think he is the best of the Experienced coaches going around.

Also if he is aware of the problems he might insist on the removal of some people before he takes over.

Also I think he would be much wiser this tiem around I think he is a lot wiser after the North experience.

There is no rationale to this but "He looks tough" to me

I think any coach who takes on us must ensure that their contract has a clause that states that meddling admin knows its place and be banned from going anywhere near the players or FD.

Agree but what do you think of him?

We could do worse, I'd interview him and consider him if we couldn't get a premiership winning coach (Clarkson, Malthoues, Roos) but you feel if he didn't do a good job early then he'd fall on the scrap heap pretty quickly.

I don't think any of the above are available.

Then it falls to the next group and he looks better than most of the others to me.

The upside is that he took mediocre sides to finals 3 times.

The downside is that 3 of the 5 finals he coached, they lost by 87 points or more.

He won one out of 5 finals matches.

Reminds me of a certain Rev.

Point taken and i too remember those finals, But i think Dean Laidley deserves a long interview, if not as coach definately part of the coaches box.

But as a head coach he could be what we need...Malthouse rates him extremely high.

Laidley is no softy..we need that quality so badly.

No thanks. I want someone who's climbed the mountain. Laidley did well with what he had but that's immaterial. His sides were pretenders that were exposed and flogged in finals. I want us to go hell for leather for Clarkson or Choco. I'm really starting to warm to the idea of Choco. He's an animal full of passion. I also want Trengove as captain. The old journeymen on our list can be led by a natural leader. I also want Scully to rack off. As someone who lives in Sydney, I'm going to give him a gob full at any game I attend here.

I've heard DL speak at a function and he is a quality bloke. Did it real tough growing up and got to the top through perserverance. More important than that though he has been a part of a premiership and succsesful 'footballing' cultures at West Coast and North.

We could do worse!

I am not certain Choko is playing with a full deck of cards.

A Malthouse / Laidley double would be desirable

If we can't land the huge fish MM (I actually thnk we will) then Laidley looks the next best alternative.

One way or the other lets get him onboard.

Can you just remind me about his trading record especially referring to the names Thompson & Hay. We could almost guarantee the Hawks another flag.

Looking forward to your reply.

Ive always stated on these boards that I rate Laidley. I appreciate many dont..thats fine. Id definitely have a chat to him.

He tends to a no nonsense low frills type of footy. It worked very well for him and I think our list as it progresses will be better than teh one he worked wonders with.

Ive no problems if he was to apply.

I know. I'm from South Australia and have observed a couple of generations of Williams's. Initially I didn't like the idea but the guy is educated, a football animal and has something left to prove. He's also won a flag (that is the clincher). Malcolm Blight is barely sane too. The greats are often like that. You think Clarko is a balanced individual? That's what gets them the extra distance.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
