Brett Clothier obliged to investigate Melbourne's 'tanking'

According to Damian Barrett on Twitter:

AFL integrity alert: Given Dean Bailey’s comments today, Brett Clothier is now obliged to properly investigate Melbourne’s tanking

Those comments were Dean Bailey mentioning that he was setting the club up through draft picks, or something to that extent.

'Now obliged'...reads like Barrett is requesting the AFL to investigate given the comments made.

And in our defence we present Andrew Demtriou who is on record as saying tanking is not an issue with the. Doesnt exist.

Defence rests

Ok sure. I'm fine with that, on the premise that if we are punished, so too should every other club that has gained compensation draft picks. Carlton in the whole 2nd half of 2007, Eagles in 2008&10, Bombers & Richmond in 2007, Filth in 2005. Bulldogs, Hawthorn and Saints in the early stages of 2000's.

He can look all he wants, he ain't gonna be able to grab hold of something.

Barrett is way off the mark here. Bailey's comments were simply that the club put itself in a position to strengthen itself through the draft. The way I read it, he was saying that more players were axed than might have been normal, in order to maximise the number of draft picks we had, in order to build out list up using the draft as the prime mechanism (i.e. as opposed to trading etc.)

Call me naive if you like, but I think Barrett is drawing a very long bow here. Mischievously so.

^^^ This^^^ Why do journalist's continue to spruik that the MFC were the only club to do this?? clubs who don't once finals are a no go, are just dumb.

The AFL is just concerned about the TV situation....18 clubs will create more Tanking Vlad.

Mind you (yes, we've had this discussion ad nauseum) anyone who thinks we weren't tanking - or tanking under another name - against Richmond is naive to say the least.

"He also said on Triple M that we should have future draft picks taken off us. I think he is trying to create a new story out of nothing."

Ok they can have no.96 and 114 or whatever we cop this year.

What a legend.

I'm sorry, I must have missed something. (And I heard the whole press conference.) When precisely did Bailey admit to tanking? Anyone got a quote?

He didn't. He said he did "the right thing by the MFC" in that "he was asked by the club to play players in different positions". He has NEVER, EVER said he told players to lose a game. Demetriou himself said that resting players, sending others off for operations or playing players in different positions to see where they could play or if they could play was not tanking. End of story. If I was the MFC I would sue Channel 7 and the Herald Sun who FALSLY and I repeat FALSLY claimed that Bailey admitted we had TANKED. Anderson spoke to him tonight and said that is the end of it.

This attack on the club should not go unchallenged. Channel 7 and the Herald Sun have defamed Bailey and the whole Club.

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res
