I just thought about what they might write about Jack Watts on a footy card and I came up with 'utility.'

Honestly, this guy is savvy, well spoken and intelligent but on a footy field, he has no idea....but, it's not his fault.

He plays this loose man in defence (not very well) and looks as comfortable as Brad Green trying to ply the company line, avoiding tricky questions from Sheahan.

Jack creates space in the forward line - we've all seen him turn his opponent backwards, get 5 metres clear, but no-one kicks it to him.

It's a tough gig playing with MFC atm with the current coaching personnel in place.

Agree....based on evidence it seems forward structures and execution are one of thousands of major issues the club has now.

Jack is a great kid who will still be one of our best.

As with all team games 1 person alone cant make a difference...but if everyone is aligned and capable we have a chance....

i hear what you are saying and agree it's not ideal to have him plugging holes all over the ground, but i don't think it will harm his development long term.

I think you've got no idea mate. His footy smarts are evident and easily some of the best in our side. Kicking is superb, and he reads the play beautifully as a loose man. Often mopping up kicks and cutting marks. Does some very damaging kicks going forward as well. Too bad there's often no one there to recieve the pass. Only blight on his game is that he's some time to unselfish.

Watts is as close to the bottom of the worry-list as anything else.

He is developing nicely. It's not his fault his idiot of a coach keeps putting him loose in defence.

Imagine if we had the team whereby Jack would be the 3rd forward pencilled in each week instead of the first. Not ideal development to have him used to plug every hole this team has. I hope we don't destroy him in the process.

Jack Watts has been fantastic this year. Was ok yesterday which in that mess means very good. You have to look at our inside 50's to see how tough it has been for him. I thought he would struggle to be anything, he has proved me wrong. Mainly his attitude to the contest has improved out of site. A couple more preseasons he will be one of the best forwards in the comp.

You need to read my posts to get the idea that I'm worried about his development. He is very talented, but playing him as a loose man in defence is not a great idea.

Also, the opposition get a sniff that you've already conceded the game and your preparation and mindset is not quite right.

I love watts. Respected how he stood up for himself when the cats players got into him (supported by a couple of young blokes - no surprise the senior ones were MIA). He and Martin are the best things to come out of this year.

Playing CHF in a hopeless beating is also a lonely role. I'm happy with him been freed up at times. But in the main I'd rather him and Jeremy Howe to play as dual CHF's and take the heat off each other. CHF will be were his gets most of his development, but we have seen the benefit that putting him behind the ball earlier in the year gave him.

What he needs now is a forward structure and some patience.

Watts will be a star, clean hands, good over head, good when the ball is on the deck, runs all day and has great speed over the first 20. Personally - see him as a chris grant type, able to play in a variaty of roles because of his superior decision making.. If only he had some strong bodied team mates who could give him a chop out, if only brad miller didn't turn out to be such a dud

Brad Miller wasn't a dud, he was a late draft pick, no55 from memory but someone can correct me. Big heart and made the most of his limitations.

I responded with my opinion of your views on Watts, then backed it up with my own observations. I really don't see how there's any 'personal stuff' in this post. Unless of course you can't handle someone having a difference of opinion? If that's the case the. I suggest you don't get involved in an online forum.

I suppose it was the way you phrased your response. Read closely and you'll see the point of my post - the old coach was stifling Jack's development by playing him as a loose man in defence. Not a good idea, in my opinion.

You're entitled to your opinion, but try and be more considerate about how you respond to posters.
