Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

New coach now?

I believe the decision on Bailey can be made now. Four years tells those closest to the club, the board members all they need to know about the coach. Bailey is Bailey and a few more wins or losses will not be make any difference to his ability. Games one or lost is not grounds for a sound judgement. There are many who think he should be given every last game to prove he is the right man for the job. My compromise suggestion is that after round 17 we will have played every team, save for Geelong (16 is the bye, 17 is Port, 18 is Hawks and 19 Gee at skilled stadium). Treat this as one win - Port - and one loss - Geelong ). Make the bye weekend (round 16) decision week. Either reappoint him then and there or give it to a caretaker coach. By the way, tell Tom Sculldugery that if he doesn't tell the club he is staying he will be playing at Casey.

i think they would have aleady made up their minds by now. But thats got nothing to do with Him coaching out the Year, unless someone wants to get a mate his name in the MFC's coaching roster as a MFC coach for a handfull of games.

Maybe we can raffle the last few games to prospective paying coaches for a Day... Step right Up, Ladies and Gentlemen, here we have your Ultimate Fantasy weekend,,, for the Highest bidder. Demon Coach for a day!!!

How about a bit of old fashioned honesty re Bailey and Scully?

Tell Bailey he is gone at the end of the season but he is expected (and paid) to perform professionally until then.

Demand an answer from Scully re his commitment to MFC - if he intends leaving then tell him to go now, if he won't commit then don't play him.

I know this may seem naive but it is professional and common practice in other circles.

Time to stop the speculation and to make some tough decisions!

How about some realism and fairness?

We will deal with both contracts at the end of the season. Nearer to when the contract runs out.

Business doesn't wait until a contract runs out before deciding whether to renew it or not rpfc - realism starts months before the renewal date. As for fairness, how many years do you want to make an assessment, really!! Even today's result (in context) doesn't change the long term outcome.

Does the result against Collingwood change the outcome???

Every match Bailey coaches will determine if he remains at the club long term.

A result against Richmond won't tell us anything - we need decisive wins against top clubs and we need to show tactical skills. We have a good list of young players who can win some games when left to their own natural instincts, but they need disciplined tactics and developed skills to further advance.

Scully will stay and so will Bailey .Jimmy wants it and so do those who have sat patiently waiting for success .The parallels between us and Geelong of 6 years ago are becoming apparent .Sit tight and have faith in the guy(s) .Those who keep comparing it to business must realise that this is not a McDonalds franchise .We're a football club again .Not a product or a service . Confidence breeds confidence .I like the fact that Bailey doesn't give any corporate gibberish when we lose . All the doubters must realise that change for it's own sake will breed instability .Us supporters need to stay strong and not go calling for heads every five minutes .Belief is really the only thing that will get us to the top .Any middle-managers out there can keep their tough talk and ruthlessness 101 for the course .I'm with Bailey (and Scully) .

MFC powers are already looking make no mistake...the point is if we dont start the search now we'll be lagging behind. Would we be any worse with say Todd Viney taking over from Bailey right now for argument sake? Not a chance, it may be the players too but the buck stops with the coach as it always has. I';ve never seen so many indecisive possessions in a yr. Time & time again MFC continually fault a handball (even today) then have to work double hard to gain possession + make a mends, its gotta hurt if we keep going this track. bad skills is the mind working oppositely to where the player truly wants to go.

Anyone see instinctive footy today? wasnt it impressive when Garland switched the play from centre wing going to MCC pocket and went back to Green on opposite side. it only fooled some 20 players heading that way., a coach has to occassionally except instinct over structure, + i think we are overly structured with such a potentially...talented side

We aren't lagging. We are just having faith .Viney can't string a sentence together .We don 't need another coach .Bailey is cool now that he doesn't have the sideburns .

I hope I'm right in saying this - I believe DB was appointed before Jim Stynes' tenure began.

Jim has gone with that decision over the years following - even through some grey hours.

One could imagine he and fellow Board members can therefore be fairly objective as they consider the future coach and will I imagine have drawn up a list of pros and cons re retaining/moving in a different direction.

Unemotional though - and calculated in the cold light of day

its funny i didnt think Al Clarkson could string a sentence when I played under him... when the support like it is today is around you, injecting passion aint a bad trait in a coach, perhaps thats what Malthouse is doing at the moment and Buckley is the instrument fine tuning the strings. There could be something in this WWC tag team coaching

What now? I think we should go after Mark Thompson (pie eater), or maybe James Hird himself. We could offer him a sh@#load. Perhaps the HARDMAN is the answer. I don't know....

The senior coach, as opposed to the FD and the cattle, doesn't decide game outcomes on each day. Yeah, right! I've always been sure that the only people who can win a game are those on the field, and the line coaches whom have pre-drilled and pre-decided the days plan.

Of course, we could always go out and find the most expensive coach on offer, because he would always be the best.

I think we should go after Malthouse, because after 10 years, he, all-of-a-sudden became the best which had nothing to do with the financial budget which could put the best people around him (you know the names), and you know the budget.

Seems to me like MFC can at least be competitive, at the moment. Seems like our young blokes can play to a higher level than they probably should given game numbers.

Oh Yeah... lets dump Bailey and get a better coach!

I must say - our game plan, zones and tactics seem to be catching slowly. Starting to think I was too hasty in my call for Bailey's head post West Coast loss. I did support until then, but that I thought was the final straw. It seems I was wrong. We certainly need to wait for the end of the year, but I believe we're on track.

For some reason reading this thread title I remembered when Bailey got this gig, at his presser a journo aked who'd called him, as deadpan as ever he said Phil Jackson called and congratulated him... The journo believed him. That was damn funny, no idea why I'm remembering this now.

Anyway... carry on

Quite frankly prosepective coaches should be lining up begging to take the reigns of this team.

Easily the biggest upside of the comp.

Personally I think regardless of the outcome this year, the team is developing together and the coach is on the same journey.

The plan is working.

Wait for seasons end and then review and most probably reappoint.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
