Jack Grimes

There are so many new advances these days, far more than there were even two or three years ago when Egan got injured.

I was told about a new treatment by a knee specialist recently that some footballers have apparently already tried, where they harvest your cells in a lab and inject it into an injured body part to quicken the healing process.

I know the type of injury Grimes has is hard to treat due to lack of blood supply to the area, but there are honestly so many ways to get around these things and if we got Garland out of this injury, we'll get Grimes out of it too. Remember that Garland actually played for a few weeks with a 'hot spot' before it was detected, no doubt making the injury worse. We at least got to Grimesy straight away.

Someone as meticulous in his recovery as him, will do a great job to get himself ready for 2012. It's such a big blow for him mentally and for us, but he'll be playing again before you know it. Just gotta trust the club to get him the best medical treatment available.

Still absolutely devastating for him to sustain yet another serious, long-term injury, and so early in the season as well. It seems like every time he goes into the midfield for a brief moment everything comes crashing down around him. Clearly he is just too good and the footy gods get angry that someone so brilliant is making everyone else look ordinary so they strike him with random injuries! :(

I've been harping on for Jack Grimes to be named in the middle to give him a run, saw him there in the opening bounce and nearly wet myself.

A massive shame to see him go down with this injury and prematurely cut off what I believe would have paid off naming Grimes in the middle against Adelaide.

Me too. Could have been the start of a really big stage of development in his career.

Hopefully if when he comes back he goes back into the middle.

I get where you're coming from, but some players, unfortunately, do have career-ending injuries. Unless you have a crystal ball you won't know how it turns out for Grimes.

That said, most AFL players recover from injuries, even when pretty serious. To those that want to mention Egan I simply raise them a Garland. I thought Egan initially tried to come back fairly quickly. I also think that our Club having rehabalitated Garland makes managing Grimes' injury easier.

Best example now is probably Rodan. 3 Knee Recos (1 of which was a LARS) and is still playing.

All those waiting for apologies/having a go at WJ:

You are all fools.

At the time it was posted it was nothing but an unsubstantiated rumour which served no purpose but to get people worried. The fact that it turned out to be true does not change that.

WJ's job, as a moderator, is to watch out for such unsubstnatiated crap and make sure it doesn't permeate the board, because when the false stuff starts spreading this board gets even worse.

Very very very few players who are Grimes' age suffer career ending injuries these days.

We're not talking 3 knee reconstructions or a severe neck injury which forced a Collingwood (?) player to retire in just his first few seasons.

Egan was almost the first of his kind with this type of injury and Geelong stuffed up and have served as a good case for everyone else. Just like OP used to threaten careers and is now so well managed that few players miss more than a few months with this type of injury.

Of course there are always horrible negative endings, but we can't be thinking like that and I'm sure the club isn't either.

Yeah. That Filth player was different too - was related to a spinal condition that was discovered through his concussions.

I can't name you a player apart from Egan who's had a career-ending injury recently and has been under 30.

It may have already been mentioned, but I've only skimmed. It's been made mentioned that James Hird had this injury and was able to get back. But he was sometime out of the game. Hopefully Grimes gets the best treatment.

Incorrect. It was not an "unsubstantiated rumour" whatsoever. And, that has been proven.

Some people on this board think they are superior than everyone else, there is no doubting that there are those that assert their dominance, just because they 'think' they can. Like yourself.

And stop using the word 'unsubstantiated' in every second sentence. Wow, a big word.

You miss the point. There have been instances in the past of people coming on to this site posting unsubstantiated rumours. It's people like that who the moderators have a responsibility to deal with whether you believe that constitutes "exerting control or not". That's what moderation is about and Demonland is a better place for having a high standard of moderation.

As for people coming here for "inside information", it wouldn't be inside information if trolls were permitted to roam here and tell porkies about the players which is what inevitably happens with poorly moderated forums.

Is this a case of mismanagement by the club?

Given that Dr Google is telling me that this is an injury caused by excessive load/weight bearing, I wonder whether this sort of injury is a good example of where the millions extra other clubs such as the Filth have for meticulous management of players' loads makes a difference...

Do you know what 'unsubstantiated' means?

You came on here, told everyone that Grimes had a navicular break, but you had no source. That made your rumour (as it was then), wait for it, unsubstantiated.

The fact that it has been proven correct does not change that.

Next time, give a source, or shut up.

Not sure if it was mentioned earlier on this thread, if so i couldn't see it, but how did the injury actually happen, there certainly was no vision i saw.

All the best to Grimesy for a successful and speedy recovery. He will be sorely missed and lets hope we get him back on the track in 2012.

This isn't journalism, I don't need to tell you my sources.

And next time TU, I will keep it to myself. Well done on ruining it for the rest of your fellow demonlander's. Ease up keyboard warrior.

Back to the topic, Grimes' loss is devastating, but the one positive to come out of it is that we'll now no doubt see the likes of Blease, Strauss and perhaps the likes of Nicholson/Evans getting a few games and showing what they have to offer. It'll be interesting to see how the backline rejigs itself. From what I have seen attending most Casey games, we have the depth to cover Grimsey, albeit inexperienced depth.

It is up to our senior boys to teach them well, and fast.

I'm not suggesting we assume it's a career-ending injury; I simply think it's silly to assert, in absolute terms, that he'll come back as good as gold etc.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
