i would love the MFC to play Anzac Day, but only when we earn the right. When the MCG is a lockout and all our fans cannot get in.

It amazes me that Richmond get all these Block Busters and continue to get thumped.

The Bombers & Collingwood made Anzac day what it is...you gotta respect that.

But we did lose more players in wartime than any other club, so we must be involved somehow.

I believe in Egalitarianism.. to share...

This is why we are witnessing the end of the capitalist system that we've lived with. we've seen the end of communism, and Now witness the end of credit, and boom and bust cycles. It's on our doorstep.

The exclusiveness of the self proclaimed elite, are bringing on their own Doom. Hence we now have the draft, then salary cap, and now going through TV Wars with partners falling out, and board members bying into opponents boards to steall for themselves privy.

They all fight one another in the madness of it all.

Instead of the tribalism model of working together for the greater good. Money is an Me, or I thing... Remember the saying,,, there is No i, in Team.

*** share the Block busters around.

You gotta earn a Block Buster with a well coached driven hungry team, if the games are shared there is no anticipation, so they won't be Block Busters.

Share the blockbusters around?

Just like Friday night matches..?

If we lost QB as permanently our fixture, we'd likely see 1 blockbuster match every 25 years.

Bugger that.

Should QB be shared?

That's exactly what I wanted to post when I saw the thread title.

I think that if you want to argue that Anzac Day should be shared it follows that all sorts of 'blockbusters' are up for grabs.

EDIT: However, the article talks about Sheedy's idea that there be Anzac Day games across Australia, rather than ditching the Essendon v Collingwood game.

It isnt just the day that makes the blockbuster it is rivalries, and one's which have stood the test of time.Sheedy did well to do it but i cant think of many manufactured rivalries or "Blockbusters"

Would love for us to get a little bit cocky maybe some time soon with the Queens Birthday match, and call out Collingwood in a way, not that we are arrogant but to really push the bounderies with the crowd we can attract, give our supporters not just the die hard ones reason to turn up and have 80k at the G, wow

The problem is, if say the AFL shared it around, great, in a few years it's Melbournes turn and we face North Melbourne as it's their turn too, so a normal 35k-40k match (if we are both doing well) becomes a 45k cos of extras coming because it's Anzac day.

Never going to happen, we would not sell it out, simple as that.

Leave Anzac day to the filth and the bombers, I'd rather keep QB.

Kevin Sheedy is a senile forgetfull fool.

This article is published April 20, 2010, yet have a look at what he was saying on April 19, 2006:

Hands Off Anzac Day-Sheedy

I rest my case, your honour...

I agree with all the above only having met the man twice ( once in Dublin ) i'd throw in arrogance as well. He can be a very unpleasant man.

And another thing ; I know that Kevin is a great patriot and is a rap for us ex national circus men but I haven't heard it mentioned whether he went to Vietnam or not. And if he didn't how come he didn't. I know some footballers didn't go and I always wondered why.

I wouldn't touch the game in Melbourne but whatever happened to our allegedly 'annual' ANZAC Day night game against Sydney up there? Lasted one year.

Yeah, what the hell happened with that?

I think we decided to make it 'annual' and forgot to tell the AFL...

Whatever happened to what was going to be an annual ANZAC round event - Melbourne v Sydney? I can recall, even during the Paul Gardiner reign, that we were angling for this - in fact I remember playing Sydney at ANZ Stadium during this round in 2004 (It was a Saturday evening - 24 April). I think there'd be merit in this continuing.

Not saying that we try to take over the established Essendon v Collingwood extravaganza, but a Melbourne v Sydney match every ANZAC round commemorating the meaning of ANZAC day would be a good thing - we could build a tradition between the two major capital city clubs.

Should QB be shared?

They should both stay as is.

Anzac day for me is a totally different proposition to QB. QB is a redundant almost meaningless relic of our past that isn't even celebrated on the same day across different states. Anzac day is revered National holiday with deep meaning and sentiment. Way more important than QB and even Australia Day IMHO.

To be consistent with an equitable competiton I believe all blockbuster game dates should be shared, including this BS Carlton/Richmond round 1 thing that's been flopping year in year out for the last 4 as well as QB, Dreamtime at the 'G', etc.

If Malthouse felt sorry that more footballers can't play on Anzac day then he should be equally agrieved that only Essendon's and Richmond's Aboriginal players can play in the dreamtine at the 'G' game.

These fixtures to be honest were in a large part developed as commercial opportunites by the clubs involved r the clubs involoved would be happy for otehrs to play in teh same day or hand over part of the gate (which they don't as far as I know?). The days should in fact belong to the stakeholders around which they are based. Having said that I have no idea who the stakeholder would be for QB. I've often thought if some other club came up with some cause to benefit from the day that the AFL would have no hesitation in handing it to someone other than Melbourne! The fact that it was the original blockbuster from an era when every other game was played on Saturday afternoon is probably the only reason we still have it.

Btw, was there an ANZAC medal presented to the best player after that game ?

I don't believe there was a medal presented for Best-On-Ground, but I do remember Ron Barassi presenting David Neitz with a winner's trophy after the game. He was the ideal choice - obviously with firm connections to both clubs and as a man touched by war with his Dad (and MFC player) killed in combat at Tobruk during WW2.

Honestly, the club needs to work on promoting Queen's Birthday. There's the opportunity to turn that game into a June ANZAC Day. Really pump up the Collingwood rivalry, get as many Melbourne supporters along as possible since we all know the filth will all rock up regardless.

If we can get 80,000 year-in, year-out at Queen's Birthday it will be a boon for the club.

They've got to be current top teams in strong form. BUT thats not how these Games are being alocated.

So no one is being helped with this Static situation where just 2 teams have a monopoly. The rich get richer, or something like that.

The bottom teams just 'Flounder'. Not good for a healthy competition.

What are you talking about. you don't put in a tream when they're bottoming out. Your gotta pick sides that are playing great footy, currently. But still rotate it so everyone gets a chop out.

Maybe it would be last years grand finalists, or the Preliminarary finalists that missed the Granny.

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
