Anyone can win any game.

Too right. A timely reminder for people who set the bar too low and put losses down to 'development'.

Footy's not as complex as it's made out to be. It's 44 blokes versus 44 blokes and the group which want the damned thing more can beat any opposition on any given day.

It's also a timely reminder to those who managed to find something to whine about after a 90 point victory.

I was openly cheering for them in that last quarter.

..and thank god it wasn't us. :) Poort will never live this one down.

As was I. Very pleasing for them.

"Poort", bwahaha.

When one very ordinary side plays another ordinary side then anything can happen. And suggesting that its comparable to when a top 4 side plays a side with a cumulative 1000 games less experience is laughable.

If we dont beat port over there this year we have issues.

Well, that didn't take long. I was just reading down this thread, wondering how long someone would manage to see a problem for Melbourne in all this.

We have, as you put it, issues, as it is, whether we beat Port or not. When we stop having "issues", we'll be premiers ... multiple times over.

Well done Dees, nice 90 point win over GC.

Greetings all.

Having resided up here in sunny SE Queensland since my retirement two years ago, I've remained a staunch Demon but I also have a soft spot for the new local crowd down the road at Carara where a magnificent new stadium is being developed in readiness for GCS's game v Geelong later this year.

None of this prevented me from enjoying the Dees' 15 goal demolition of the newbies on Sunday. Conditions were warm, humid and uninviting for a physical game like footy and it was inevitable that mistakes would be made by both teams. I'm amazed that some people are hypercritical of a team that recorded such an annihilation - Ablett or no Ablett.

Which brings me to the question of the Suns' first win. I was watching the Marngrook Footy Show on the Thursday night before the game and Norf Melbourne's Matty Campbell was on the panel. He was the only panelist to tip GCS to win their first game on Sunday against us because "Melbourne don't travel well."

Well well well. Congrats BrB.

I hope you enjoyed that one.

They'll be 15th, end of the round. But that's still a step up from 17th.

Substitute North for WCE and the bottom 5 were reasonably predictable. Each of the sides over the course of the year will have their day in the sun but over the course of the year there shortcomings will continue to be exposed by more talented teams playing focussed football.

Now for the team song....OMG its bad!!

I think their song is not bad. Definately there are far worse.

Congrats to the Suns, Fantastic last quarter. I was getting right into the game at the end. There is no doubt that Swallow is an absolute star.

I, too, got right into the game when it appeared that they might have a sniff.

The young kids were doing ok and sucking up the pressure from their more experienced opponents. Ablett was leading the way along with the ex Lions and the young kids were getting more confidence as the game got closer.

Well done GC. I will be following their progress this year and may even go watch a game or two.

We were predicting last week the team we thought would be first to lose to them and it was North that was considered the most likely. I dont think anyone expected them to beat Port over there but there you go.. where there is a will, there is a way and they showed lots of will.

K.B. has to walk home from Adelaide...What a classic.

We must SMASH Port when we play them, here and over there.

To lose that game on your Home heap when 40 points up is inexcusable.

Port should never have been admitted into the AFL, thanks so much Wayne Jackson. The Power are going to cost us all a lot of $$, maybe we could send the bills to you Jackson.

Glad we played the Suns last week, our 90 point win was ok with me.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
