In: Better starts to quarters. Playing at full intensity for more than 10 minutes for each of the first 3 quarters. Centre clearances.

Out: Umpires. Trailing opponents to the ball for 3 quarters! Kicking points instead of goals!

Players: Frawley in if available(?) Will need him for Roughie and Buddy. Pettard to get a full game.

Out: Rivers (sub?)

We must pick a side that can beat Hawthorn.

People are caning Jonesy but i thought he was ok, laid 2 crucial big tackles in the last Q in front of the MCC Reserve, stopped sydney scoring.

Maloney played a beauty out of the centre after half time.

Pettard was great as a "Fresh" player....could it work again. If the sub can IMPACT a game, it is a winner.

I don't think anyone deserves to be dropped on todays effort. The team application was great-we should have won except for poor kicking at goal.

If Chip is ready to play he must come in, whoever is dropped will be stiff.

It depends on the Hawks line up to a point.

Frawley has to come in if fit.

Maric was weak and offered 0 today, I'd point it out to him and make him know it's unacceptable and make him a sub.

Petters has to play!!!!

I seem to have blinkers on when watching cos i hardly see Jetta do anything to great but others around me do but if Wonna or Gys did well for Casey I'd bring them back in.

Good point - will make life a lot easier if it were to happen! Flash got reported too, which I think may earn him a week (depending on if he has carry-over points).

I haven't seen it post-game, but I thought that Davey's report would get thrown out before it got to the tribunal.

Hope to God that Frawley is ready to go next week, will need him against Roughie/Buddy/Hale.

Rivers was beaten one-on-one a couple of times today, and had a couple of bad turnovers (that kick into the man on the mark, FCS Riv!!!) but i didn't think he was too bad oddly enough. I thought he was ok but got crucified a couple of times by teammates not coming across to help out. Didn't watch him all that closely to be honest, but i didn't think he was the worst.

If we are dropping Rivers or MacDonald for Frawley, who are our talls that will cover Hale, Roughhead and Franklin?

Garland for Buddy

Frawley for Roughy

Rivers for Hale.

Anyone for Warnock (replacing Rivers) on Hale??

I'm tempted...but....

Rhino - Stef Martin for Hale? Given that Hale has played as their second ruck I don't think it's too silly an idea.

I think bringing in Warnock would negate the balance we've gained by dropping Rivdonald. I'd like to keep the number of defenders who can't kick to a minimum.

people calling for maric to be dropped i feel are harsh, didnt have the best games, but had 3 direct goal assists?

Fair call Nasher.

Then do you need Rivers??? Possibly only if Frawley is held back.

If we don't need Rivers this week, then when do we ever need Rivers when Frawley and Garland are fit? I'm not sure there's ever a huge need for three "key" defenders, but we ran with it for most of the year last year. Sometimes 4 if you count Joel Macdonald as a KPD (which I don't). I can't think if any side that has three genuine tall threats in their forward line.

I realise I've answered a question with a question, but they're both questions I don't know the answer to.

I'm in two minds about this. I do think there's some benefit in giving him a second chance to prove himself so long as the "it's not good enough" speech is delivered before hand. Then if he's arse again next week he's gone. At the same time, he really spudded it up and I'm not sure you're sending the greatest of messages to the players in the fringe if you retain him. Tough call but I think he'd be out.

Its all about match ups.

Garland can play tall/small. JoelMac is mainly small.

Who would you play Rivers on this week ?? Buddy...no (Garland for me). Roughy....Rivers will be killed over head (Chippa makes him accountable), Hale...too tall for Rivers (Martin is a good choice). Other weeks you might play Garland small and give Rivers a tall/kp forward (but not Buddy)

Maric wasn't great today, but i doubt he will be dropped and i really dont want him to be dropped. After the pre-season games, people were saying how he mightve finally turned the corner, and im not willing to give up on him after 1 game.

agreed, but i still dont think his game was that poor, davey, jones, rivers, macdonald, bartram, were all definately worse, none the less, i would say that he didnt have as much impact as he did in the pre season matches, he may come back as the sub, but i again dont think he had too badder game, one or two times he did butcher the ball, but grimes butchered it 7-8 times resulting in goals... this is somewhat comparable as the good things maric did gave us three goals, and the good things grimes did saved our defence several times.. i just think everyone is being harsh on his performance.

I'm with you, too.

Rivers is a mark, go back, assess options, old style footballer. Too slow in both mind and body.

Finally people are starting to notice.

I've been saying we need to build a tall defenders for the last 2 years. Now people are starting to see it. The good thing is we've recruited those players this last draft.

This time next year, I think our defence will have quite a different look about it.

Lets hope Howe, Davis & McDonald have good seasons @ Casey. McDonald has a head start with a strong frame. Howe with an athletic style,,, dare I say it,,, maybe not too disimilar from, C Bizzell.

I'm actually thinking Chippa on Buddy, like last season. Best defender on best forward.

Garland will do well on Roughead, because he is a lot stronger than he looks and should be able to match him in the air and on the burst.

Rivers could take Hale, but he'll struggle in the air. If you put Martin on him you are basically making Jamar ruck for 98% of the match, and that's risky.

I'd look at Warnock for Hale, but gees he was horrible in the pre-season and he is "poo your pants when he has the ball" type of player.

In the end I think they'll go with Frawley, Garland and Rivers and McDonald will get the chop. He doesn't have an immediate match up that comes to mind, and he has to stop the brain explosions. When he's good, he's great, when he's bad, he's damn right woeful and he really really hurt us with his stupidity.

To be honest though, the Hawthorn midfield is going to be the issue for us, as it is every time we play them. They always smash us, and I would seriously consider giving Maric the dodgy sub vest and bringing in Gysberts. Even if he doesn't do much, it'll be a great learning experience for him.

Its a good point...its all about match ups, rather than just dropping players after 1 poor game. But gee I tell ya, Rivers was very ordinary at times today. Will most likely keep his place but can`t afford too many efforts like this.

Others have mentioned this for a long time but I reckon its time to bring Grimes in to midfield. If we played Hawthorn today his turnovers would have hurt us a helluva lot more than the Swans did today. I love him but I have very little confidence once the pill is in his hands. At least if he sprays it from the midfield going forward we are still a chance of scoring rather than him setting up a turnover goal from the backline

Did a few things around the place. Has the skills to help break a game open. We need to give him game time now he has a good attitude.

Why crush this positive attitude for an unwarrented relegation after Rnd1?

His ability to hit a pass on a teammates [censored], is important. Not many have that ability to break open a game.

If Frawley is ready, Tall for Tall. Or maybe a Bail.... Footskills, Imperativo!

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
