No not at all, but i think he was a better footballer than many round here give credit for....Cost the Filth nothing really.

But we did score Liam Jurrah.

i was driving in my car and heard buckley kick two goals...at that stage the game had already been won! take it easy people and put it in perspective.....Luke ball had 12 tackles for the day...nearest to him was 6 at the same stage...

one game doesn't mean much...happy to eat my words if he does it week in week out...

44 supercoach points (mainly in the last quarter) in a game his team won by 75 points.

Yes still a shame we couldn't have nabbed Luke Ball last year, he would have toughened up the Back Half nicely...

Ross Lyon is a True Clown for that one...The Aints never learn.

His delisting was a list management issue, at the time he was considered the most expendable unfortunately. He was out of contract at a time when space was needed on the list.

He was always promising but he played very little footy due to injury after he began to show some good signs. Good luck to him, hope he does well against the other 15 sides.

There will always be that player that you wish you drafted, or that player that you wish you kept. It is still very early to judge the recruiting, as for trades and delistings the club has made some very good decisions, we are probably due to get one wrong.

What a dream for Ball though. To play against your old club after losing one flag. Have a [censored] game in the draw, then come out and thrash em in the replay and be in the top 10 on ground. Hehe, poor Sainter's.

Kinda sums up the St.kilda Football Club doesn't it.

Luke Ball was and still is a class footballer, and they gave him away for nothing.

Teams evolve, we have to keep turning over and if a player doesn't show much after the multiple years Buckley had, the you have to let them go, and wish them best of luck with adding another layer to their career, just like Buckley has. To his credit, too.

I don't know if it is a direct match, but I think it's fair to say that if we still had Simon Buckley we wouldn't have Rohan Bail. I'm comfortable with that.

There's only so many spots that can be used on perpetual faith, such as has been shown to Newton. I really wonder what that guy is seen to be on the verge of offering...

Buckley would be in direct competition with Rohan Bail, who is fringe himself. I'd take Bail any day - torches it less often (but still more often than ideal) and his attack on ball and man is second to none.

Exactly. The coaching staff will hardly lose sleep over that one. Buckley's got some tools but is a bottom 4-6 player for every team. Might work out but hardly giving away a gem.

Was at the game today. He was invisible in the first qtr, made some blunders in the second and third qtrs which [censored] the faithful off and kicked 2 lovely goals in the 4th. A 4.5/10 performance. Would be surprised if he gets a consistent game but his pace and long kicking is valuable. Good luck to him.

This is a popular view around the place - but is it accurate? We added seven players to our senior list in the draft following his delisting - it hardly sounds like spots were at a premium. Keeping him would've come at the expense of either Jack Fitzpatrick (last ND pick) or Joel Macdonald (PSD pick) - that doesn't seem to me to be huge price to pay if he was a player the club really wanted.

The club clearly wanted Joel Mac more and belivied that a young player at sixty something was going to give us better service than an injury prone Buckley, so yes I agree, but he was hardly the worst player on the list at the time. He was however considered the most expendable of the uncontracted players.

Don't get me wrong I am not about to say that he will end up a fixture at the Magpies, but he is far more likely to be a senior player than Meesen or Newton.

We also drafted tall with those later picks.

Are you referring to him damaging his ex girlfriends car or does he have more problems?

That incident is the main one but I've heard a few things about his character that aren't great from people that know him.

Just looking at the stats. 14 disposals and two goals. Not a bad return. He hasn't disgraced himself.

Haven't seen the game, but from most reports it was a bit of a Fairweather Freddy effort, Pies were up by 50 points and he did some nice things in the last quarter. But who knows, he might have still done that if it was a 1 goal difference game... What if, what if...

I thought he made a good account of himself, and I say good on him. Kicked an absolutely cracking goal. I won't judge his personality as I know nothing of it, but we let him go so good luck to him. Plus I have him in my DT so hopefully he ramps it up and earns me some coin :)

I'm pretty sure Buckley won't be that player.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
