Very sad news! Loved the way he played.

Here's hoping for a full and speedy recovery!

Horrible, horrible news. All the very best Sean - fight this with the same spirit and determination that you showed on the footy field.

I'll never forget the day when Sean was stuck in a 2-on-1 in the goal square, with the ball in one opponent's hands at the top of the goal square, and his direct opponent standing a metre of the goal line...Sean launched himself at the ball carrier, who handballed over his head...Sean somehow managed to shift his momentum 180 degrees to make the goal line tackle and rush the behind!

Best wishes Sean!

Always entertaining with a touch of flamboyance ! My most vivid memory, however,is the day he started brilliantly against Lockett and then had to endure several savage charges from the frustrated big fella culminating in a devastating "clean-up" which forced him from the field. Hated Lockett ever since ! Every best wish to our Scots/Irish mate.

I've still got the photo fridge magnet of a manic 8 year old little Demon fan with a more than affable Sean Wight after the final training session of the 88 season before the Grand Final.

Proud as punch to wear 27 on my back until he retired.

Fight on Sean. Many a Demon are with you...

This is so sad. Sean was a fabulous player with so much heart, guts, skills and huge work rate. Good luck Sean, we are right behind you for a full recovery as we are with Jimma. Two of my all-time favourite players.

That incident has stuck in my memory bank too. So typical of Sean throughout his entire football career.

One of my all time favourite demons. I played around the same time and chose to wear #27, I could never emulate his courage or skill, but at least I wore his number. He'll be in my prayers.

Garry has written a nice artcile in todays age. I think the last sentence sums up how every melbourne person would fell. Jim hit the nail on the head.

I just wish Sean all the best with everything and im sure his spirits will be lifted by the support from all the club and his family.

Superb Writing Garry...bought a tear to my Eye.

Fight hard Sean, just like you did for us 20 odd years ago...WE ARE ALL WITH YOU...

My 9 year old son is mental about the Demons and grabbed out some old copies of the 1987 finals series while he was recovering from illness recently. First thing he said to me, after "Geez, we used to be really good, Dad!" was "How good was that number 27?" He was a brilliant footballer and if you haven't seen the 1987 finals ever, or at least not for a while, then have a look. It'll remind you just how sensational he was. And don't forget that was after recovering from his first knee reco and before his second in 1990.

All the best, Sean!!

Fantastic article by Gary Lyon. 27 was also the number I chose for my Dees jumper back then.

Agree with him about his athleticism, his battles with Ablett were the stuff of footy dreams.

Still remember vividly as a 6 year old at Kardinia Park behind the goals watching the number 27 of Melbourne standing beside the number 5 of Geelong.

Much respect and wishing you a speedy recovery.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
