Well, just returned home after watching the match at my local.... Was interesting due to the fact there was no sound on the tv, so a purely visual perspective (rather than listening to commentators BS)...

One thing that stood out above all else was one Mr Jack Grimes... This kid is seriously good! His ability to read the play was nothing short of awesome... I knew he was good and had a bright future, but at the rate he is going, barring anymore serious injury, Jack is going to be an AA defender within the next couple of years... His spoiling is top rate and his positioning in a contest is a joy to watch... A coaches dream I reckon... Shows leadership way beyond his years and I can clearly see why people bring his name up whenever future MFC captaincy is mentioned...

Lots to work on for the boys after tonight, but positives also... but Grimes was the standout

Without watching the replay I actually thought he was poor tonight. . His work when he does not have the ball is excellent but he turned the ball over and many times chose the wrong option.

Our backline was the land the skills forgot tonight and Grimes was easily the best of an overworked backline.

I'll go along with that I thought it was one of his worst games in terms of disposal and decision; making he continually took the wrong option and had to dispose of the ball hurriedly which resulted in numerous turnovers. When I saw some saying he had a good game I thought I was watching the wrong player.

He played a shocker against North at Etihad last year and I think he has a problem with the ground.

Grimes spoiling and smothers were great , his decision making tho' was questionable IMO but hell , he wasn't the lone ranger there .

Warnock and Macdonald didn't help the cause either .

I might be completely making this up, but I seem to recall that at the Future Fund event last week it was said that the plan is for Good Times Grimes to remain in the backline this season.

Can anyone confirm this that was there, or am I imagining things..?

25 possies at 72% effeciency, is solid without being great, 117 SC so a fair nights return, only melbourne player to crack 90+, so i would say he was easily one of our better players

Robbing Peter to pay Paul IMO. As far as I'm concerned he's allowed to play in the midfield when there's an adequate replacement for him in the back line.

Correct. Additionally disposal efficiency is not a response to claims that his disposal and decision making were ordinary. If I have someone free but instead lay a hospital handball to someone who then get tackled my efficiency is still 100% but I have chosen the wrong option and then executed it poorly.

Opinion is just that I guess because I though he was fantastic as usual.

As much football together as possible for Frawley and Grimes in our backline can only be a good thing.

i think he would be/is a better player when Frawley is in the side. Last night Grimes had to play the role Rivers usually does, and he is not that type of defender, too attacking to play the role.

Took far too long to dispose of the ball at times but it can also be said that this was usually caused by a lack of movement further up the ground. On too many occasions we were forced to bomb long to a contest on the wings rather than find a target and provide consistent movement for our forwards...

For a lot of the game as well we were playing a full flood with all of our forwards in the oppositions half.. Very congested at times with no free space to lead into.

I wouldn't say poor, I though he was ok, but I agree with your criticism. Maybe I'm expecting too much.
